kinda worried!!!! :(:(:(:(:(

I was talking to some weird guy on aim. I don't know who he was, but he never introduced himself. He started telling all these racist jokes and I demanded that he told me who he was. He then sed he was sending me key logging virus. But there is nothing to be found besides the fact that he told me he would do so. I thought you had to open a link to get a keylogging virus. So am i safe and he was just making up stuff to scare me. Oh yeah i called apple and they said 99% of the time its on a Pc and someone has to open a link containing the virus in order to get one. there was no link to be found. and it was through an aim chat. so idk how he could do it, and i doubt he did at this point. because I did not open up any thing besides clicking on the approve button to approve the chat with him. At first he said yo, So i approved it, he then told me the stupid joke and thats how it all started. like i said, I didn't click on any links either. If you guys know who this guy is, and his screen name is iharryxd. he told me he knew me from youtube or something or bps net please help me. and if you know of any software that i can download to prevent this that would also be great.
Oh and he did say he was just joking towards the end of the conversation. but i am really suspicious. because after that he logged off. Or blocked me idk. Please help!

I'm guessing you're fine. I work at IT for my college and my bet is that he was simply messing with you. As far as programs that will block key loggers, I couldn't tell ya...

Jumpin to a pretty large conclusion here.

First off he is blowing smoke up your arse. you cannot send a keylogger through an im unless its attached to something that is downloadable such as images or websites that download straight to your internet cache and cookies. secondly those who tell you they did it are full of crap and actually can't do anything. a hacker/phisher will not tell you what he is doing or has done due to the fact it is a federal offense to knowing infect or hack someones computer. i see this stuff all of the time from young kids that think they can scare people with BS remarks or threats of hacking. i program and code software and have made a few play toys for such people that does phish for others information but an actual persay hacker? lol trust me you have no worries at all and if you do think something could be done then i suggest getting a free version of spybot search and destroy which is used to clean any spyware keyloggers and malware and also if you do not have a anti virus/firewall installed on your computer then get one unless you have a firewall built into your router.

Can you post a link to it? I looked up spybot. I saw the site. But it looks like its for pc's. is there one for macs?

actually spybot isnt compatible with any version of mac at this time. what you can do is go to google.com and type in (spyware removing software for mac os) and it will give you a list of what software is available for the mac os software. if you cant find a free version then just let me know and i can get you one.

I just got the trial version of this. It is scanning now. Is this reliable. Its looking at all of my files on my hard drive. Scanning and what not.

make sure it is user friendly and that it does not allow you to delete important system files. if it suspects a file is infected when it actually isnt it will ask you to or want to remove it and if you do you will have a mess on your hands. you will have to re-install your operating system to retrieve that file back or if mac has options to back up your system you coudl do a system restore to a previous date.

actually i think its the same ur using now but most free trial versions will run and find the spyware but will not remove it. most of the time it has to be the full registered version that will romove the threats. thats how they make there money lol tease u to try it and when u do it wont clean it just find the stuff on your comp then tell you you'll have to buy the full version to clean the threats out. but i have ways around that =) if it works and you like it and want it just let me know and i will get it for you and help you with getting it installed and running.

what are tracking cookies? apparently my the program found a large # of them. Is this bad?

tracking cookies are just as they sound. it is cookies stored onto you computer from websites or any other place or thing you do on your computer. not much of a threat but can be harmful if they build up and build up. so heres what i suggest. look around for nortons or avg antivirus if you dont have one already. you will also want a user friendly type of cleaner that actually will clean must of that stuff out liek cookies temporary internet files and such with a registry cleaner. now keep in mind when you pick something make sure it has a safe removal of registry because if not you will remove alot of stuff you need and then you will have to start all over again by installing ur software and stuff. i myself use a tool called glarys it does everything i need it to do and it is user friendly and doesnt delete files you actually need to keep in your registry.

well found out who it was. And lets just say i will not be talking to them for a while. so I am fine. No bad stuff. the computers are safe and I am happy. thanks for all of your help.
