EDIT: She lists the girl as a late '07 in another ad looking for a trade.

For a minute there I thought it was another LAW Reptiles site. Took me a minute to realize one was SJS Exotics on freewebs, and the other was JS Exotics on freewebs.

I'm confused, whats she doing?

Exactly...It's a misrepresentation. With so many people getting into breeding Balls and how cool Pieds are, someone inexperienced might jump at the chance to produce Pieds this season for that price. In reality, there really isn't a chance that a late '07 girl at 500g in late September would have a chance to breed. How about a little honesty in advertising.

500+ gram female het pied. May be ready to breed in the 2009-2010 season.

Incidentally, she also does reptile boarding in her home. Hopefully all reptiles are in separate areas for proper quarantine and not near her collection.

Moved to Inquiries/Feedback and re-named to include ad placer's name - since this is more appropriate in this forum.

Her snakes are all handled daily. (I corrected the horrendous spelling).
If/When I get a website.. if I make spelling errors please inform me, as I want a professional appearance. Nothing turns me off a supposedly professional person as mispellings on the cover page. Add in the idea that a snake needs to be handled daily, they bring in outside reptiles to board them, and misrepresent a animal as breeding ready...
Yeah. No. I think I'd pay more for a animal elsewhere. Just my opinion.

My only concern is you're advertising a 500 gram female ready to breed this year. Where do you get the idea that 500 grams is big enough?

Everyone posted their opinions based on YOUR site.
It only takes a few minutes to check spelling and such if you are putting up a professional looking site. If it matters so little to you, then to me, you might be sloppy in other areas.
You state you offer boarding, you do NOT state anything about quarentining the animals from your animals, nor from any other animals you might be boarding at that time.
I'm not saying you are a scammer, or that you don't have nice animals. I'm saying I'll never find out personally, since you obviously have a sloppy site with misleading information, and a 500 gram female advertised as a breeding ready ball python.
Misleading, sloppy. It's my opinion, and it's based on your own site, not from anyone else.

Easy, easy, step back and take a deep breath. No one accused you of being a scammer. I mentioned that at first I thought this was the same site that was identified earlier as being another of LAW Reptiles' sites due to the name being so similar. No one was accusing you of being a scammer so much as your ad being misleading about a 500 gram female being ready to breed this year.

And sorry to tell you this, but proper grammar and spelling can make a huge difference in someone's first impression about you. Seriously, unless english isn't your first language there really isn't any excuse for it. All it takes is a little bit of time to look over what you wrote and maybe run a spell checker through it.

I don't know where to start. Possibly because I don't understand a lot of what you typed.

1. This season would be 2008-2009. Most breeders start pairing snakes in November. At less than a year old and 500 grams there is no chance that snake could possibly be ready to breed. Best to not make claims on your ad or give someone with little or no knowledge false hope that an animal will breed if they purchase it from you.

2. I see mostly Tarantulas on your site. Those are not reptiles, but rather Arachnids. Arachnid breeder? Maybe. Reptile breeder? Debatable.

3. Who is Rebecca Lutz? Just curious...

4. How you present yourself will go a long way towards your future as a breeder and seller of animals. Proper grammar and spelling are key!

5. I don't know the original poster but I hear he's quite a good looking dude! ;)

I don't think people were really jumping on you. The ad was misleading and you got called out. That's all there was to it. As for the grammar, I can see what they are saying. I'm certainly not the best in this area. I do, however, tend to notice glaring mistakes on sites that should have been caught right away. Remember, your site is the first impression of your business that most will get. Notice there is not a single period in your previous post, and you are very defensive. That is not someone that most of us will want to purchase from. Not picking on you, it's just a fact.

as everyone here has said no one here called you a scammer or even made the accusation they just said it was odd you were advertise a female ball at 500 grams that would be ready to breed by jan 09 which will be the next season and most of us will be putting our males in with our females in nov. to start the next season see what your ad should have said was that you have a female that could be up to breeding size in the next year to breed that would have been a better summary hope this has helped

ok i understand my add was misleading but I really did not think of it that way I would not put any of my animals back together this year so I just did not even consider the year to not be over for breeding so I was considering breeding season to not be untill 2009 adn do I think she could put on enough weight by end of breeding season yes she might but every one has the right to ther own opinion. and I was only truly pissed because I thought this post was going toward me being accused as a scammer

as for spelling I have posted a few times asking people to comment and give me help and I only had one person email me and I changed what they told me was wrong so just talking rudely about it is going to help alot less then just letting the person know your opinion and giveing them a heads up

as for me getting mad you would to if you do this spend all your time careing for animals and doing your best to get it well kinda smashed by one persons opinion and comments

I mean if I see an add I dont agree with I just ignor it unless the animal looks unhealthy

as for rebecca lutz I bought my first ever morphs from her and one was sick and died and the other is this female but she is in perfect health I have had her for months now with no problems and she eats well

Im sorry, but can you please use puntuation! Its hurting my eyes so bad because of how lost im getting.

For my part, I will spell-check any ad, or any wording you want, anytime. I've done so for friends of mine that are great writers, just lousy spellers(they WRITE the stuff, not use a computer, so they don't have a 'spell-check' option at all).
I still don't know how a ball python would gain 1000 grams in 3 months. That would be january of 2009, while most pair up in early winter, but if you breed real late... january/febuary 2009. Unless you mean next year.. which means, not breedable. That's a big deal to folks buying a snake to breed. A entire year to wait is a long long time.

My experience with SJS has been a pleasant one. Though 500+ grams is probably not going to make this season, it probably could make the next season. If it's a good eater and may make it up to breeding weight this season, it also does not mean it should be bred, which is up to the breeder.

About the spelling thing. To me, there is a difference between two types of bad spellers. There are lazy spellers. And there are uneducated/not the best typer spellers. Spelling and grammar is one of the most key things in my mind, however. Sheena is not a lazy speller that talks as if they just weren't trying. She seems very similar to my mom (who I have helped to edit some stuff) and it's been a long time since school as well as the real need of 'grammar' as well as the skills that some of us don't lack with computers.

If you weren't the best typer and had enough trouble getting the words down, would it really be your first priority to put in proper grammar? Or finish what your saying?

I don't know as a fact that Sheena hasn't been to school for a while or any of that, but thats what came of to me. It didn't seem as though she wasn't trying, just not as knowledgeable in the grammar area.
I personally, prefer that over sum1 talkin liek this 2 u all teh time . :]

Ive bought from SJS Exoctics before and I would not hesitate to do it again. I bought a Female Crester and she was above my expactations. She was a very healthly fat female.

As far as her spelling, who doesnt have grammer problems? Who doesnt forget periods when they are trying to type fast? I know I do. She is a very great person to deal with and will help out the best way she can. Im sure once she saw her errors she owuld have fixed it. But if you dont look at your add a lot how can you know there is an error when nobody notifies you? And then there is the possibility of her typing out the add in a hurry and forgot to check for mistakes? Theres that possibilty too.

Im just saying Sheena is not a bad person.

First off I'd like to throw in that I've sold to SJS Exotics a Het Albino and rats, and have bought rats from her as well... and in person.

I'm all for constructive criticism, but what I've read makes me worry about all the years I or anyone else on here has spent buying, raising, feeding, cleaning and breeding... day in and day out for years... just to have our whole reputation dragged through the gutter over a miscommunication and spelling. Ex: I have a female het albino about to lay eggs, it's almost winter. She won't breed "this season" obviously cuz it's too late, so she'll be ready to breed "this season" late 09 again. I see where she's coming from... if you're going to rag on her communication skills as a misrepresentation of facts, is her bad spelling a misrepresentation of WORDS?

I might not have even batted an eye at reading this about someone else that I didn't know, which makes me wonder about all the other attacks I've read on here and how quickly it can get out of hand... how righteous everyone's 'opinion' can spread on here...

Sheena, I totally felt it. I put myself right in your place as if I was reading it about myself. Yeah, you're damn right you're going to get defensive; what a moronic thing to accuse someone of in this situation.

In my disappointment at fellow members on here, I'm now going to go over my website with a fine tooth comb to make sure I'm not the next victim of public scrutiny. And to everyone else, I hope all your cages are clean and there's no dust on your shelves, just in case someone happens to pop in one day and decides to pick you apart... to which I'm sure you'll all join in.

How likely are you to buy ball pythons from someone's site who continually spells it ball pithons? (just an example) If would be tough to take a breeder seriously in that case. There were similar things on Sheena's page, and we tried to help her out with it. Myself, I would love to see Sheena do well and prosper.

I agree with the example, I do not even look at kingsnake ads that have the morphs spelled like you say it because that is somewhat of a give away (Like when I see "Mohaves" for sale)

Are you serious? Really? She misrepresented the snake in the ad which is why I started this. Her spelling and grammar are atrocious which is what a lot of people picked up on. We aren't talking one spelling mistake here.

When I think this year, I mean close of business Dec 31, 2008. I find that to be a tad bit of a misrepresentation. That snake probably won't be ready to breed until this time next year.

As far as the punctuation is concerned... There are SO many breeder webpages out there, that as a customer I would have moved on to another breeder after seeing that webpage. This is not to say that her care standards are sub par, or that she doesn't truly love her animals. However. It's lacks a professional appearance. And there are also quite a few people with said websites that also have a distinct respect/love of their animals. I know websites aren't exactly the easiest thing in the world to do. Many people hire other people to build their website for them to make sure they get that "professional appearance". But you'll lose alot of customers with a sub par website as customers may wonder in what other area's you may be sub par in, as far as your business goes.

Overall, nothing that can't be fixed.

I know I often misspell a lot of words. Luckily, FireFox and Safari both have a built in spell checker that helps me catch a lot of my errors.

I'm also never too quick to click that "submit" button. I usually proof read two or three times before submitting it, just because typos from myself bother me.

I'm far from perfect...and I know that. So I utilize tools to help correct my screw ups.

We are all human and we all make mistakes. It looks bad, yes, but I see no reason to crucify someone over it.

At the very least, it was brought to your attention, and you've made the necessary adjustments :)

Just my observation....

But when I read about snakes, I find myself doubting my ability to pronounce some of the latin names or morph names I see....but I sure as heck know how to spell them!

And yes, punctuation and grammar do matter, especially if you're trying to make a point. It's brutal to have to read an entire paragraph extremely slowly, word by word (well, you know what I mean :)), trying to figure out what went wrong grammar-wise with each word or phrase as you go along.

As for your argument. I haven't seen anybody say "you spell badly, I'm so perfect." I also want to point out that, for the most part, most of the people on this forum "do not even actually know" one another. We have to go by what is posted. If anybody else posted that 500 gram female as ready to breed this season, I don't see why anybody would have to personally know the poster to call them out on that "ready to breed" statement.

Just...relax. Spell check. Think happy thoughts. Don't be so defensive. If you can't take criticism, don't post animals for sale.

You see, its not just spelling, its hard to comprehend what you are writing because there are no peroids or stops or anything. No one is perfect, I know im not. If I were to write that para...sentence(?), id do it like this(without changing the whole thing) and I am an average writer, not a writing teacher, so even mine is not perfect but it is easy to read and understand.

I would love to see where I called my snakes pithons. I used a spellcheck program and it says that I had a total of 8 errors on the whole page, and I find it interesting how 8 errors make people this crazy. I can't even find out where I did spell it wrong( That is a little off as it is, since you already stated that) but maybe I did? ( asking where would be good, though I think the person was just using that as an example.) I am positive that not a single person is perfect on this site, and that is kinda the hint I am getting here( though its not, were just trying to help) because of the way everyone is trashing my spelling and a person they do not even know.

The whole thing is just weird really even when rewriting it, do you live with anyone that could help check over it? It took me five times as long to read the original message, and I am still a little lost at some parts.

I would love to see where I called me snakes pithons as even doing a spell check on my whole page there were a totally of 8 spelling ewrrors on the whole page interesting how 8 spelling errors make people crazy and I have not seen where I have ever spelt pythons wrong but maybe I have shot I am positive not one person on here is perfect and that is what you are all trying to make your selves out to be if you can talk so harshly about someone you do not even actually know then you yourself must be perfect

I was only using "pithons" as an example. On your page it was "trantulas" in several places including the hyperlink at the top. I was actually trying NOT to single you out on that one. I was more making a broad example.

If you say "ready to breed this year" then you don't mean "ready to breed when I feel like breeding them which will be NEXT year".
You misrepresented a animal. If you mistakenly did so, then I would hope that you'd be happy to have it pointed out, so you could FIX the ad so that someone did not buy the 500 gram animals to breed THIS year, and get a subadult, and then take you to the BOI over it.
As far as "8 mistakes", that's 8 mistakes on your HOMEPAGE that you are using to represent yourself. No one out there knows you. They look at that homepage to see whether they want to buy from you or not. I would think that fixing it so that you look like you know what you are talking about would be more important than whining here that people must be picking on you. You've had at LEAST 2 people who offered spell-checking help.
You STILL post with absolutley no punctuation, which makes it even harder to understand.
It's obvious that you have no regard for your reputation, since misrepresenting the breeding status of a animal for sale, and mispellings on your webpage, and posts on a public forum are no big deal to you. I would love for you to represent yourself as a great breeder/keeper that knows about their stock, and takes great care of it.
If you went to possibly buy a snake from someone, and when you drove up to their house and saw bags of trash, and a unmowed yard, and junk lying everywhere in their front yard... would you really expect a pristine snakeroom, proper quarentine and care on the inside?
On the internet, your homepage IS your front yard. We all want you to have a neat appearance so people will give you the chance to show that you are a great breeder/keeper and you WILL be successful. Correcting mistakes and making sure to double-check things is important, because just starting out is a very important time to make that first impression.

I do not think defending myself is whining, but I am really done with this post I have said thanks for the input, and I have stated also that I fixed my add. I am not quite sure what else people are wanting from the post. I use forums for fun and in my opinion if I have to spell check and grammar check every post I made it would no longer be any fun. I do not talk to my friends and make sure I use proper language or would I want to feel I had to. I understand working on my web site, and again used the info and fixed everything. That being said I will not post on a site were I feel I can not be myself and have to correct everything I type. I fully admitted to my mistake on my add and corrected, and an happy it was poined out, but this post is no longer about that. so can we just call it quits on here and let it be. That would be wonderful

I think that's a sorry mistake that you'd rather not take the effort to correct spelling and use punctuation in a medium that relies SOLELY on reading text.

I understand you feel like you can talk to your friends however you want to, but that's talking and they are your friends.

We are a bunch of people that don't know you, don't hang out with you in real life, a bunch of people that only know what you type. We can only read the little letters you type for us, and we have to make all assumptions and opinions (or not) on what you type.

If you can't take the time to spell check and punctuate what you write, which is the ONLY way we know you, then what else won't you do to help convey your message thoroughly?

The internet is ultimately anonymous. Sometimes we get to meet who we talk to online, but it's not the norm.

To do business in this anonymous world, we must all use the written word as a tool to convey and represent who we truly are.

I am glad you fixed your website and the ad, and I hope that constructive criticism for those simple mistakes helps your business grow and prosper by showing more anonymous people that your are the real deal. :gj:

In my disappointment at fellow members on here, I'm now going to go over my website with a fine tooth comb to make sure I'm not the next victim of public scrutiny. And to everyone else, I hope all your cages are clean and there's no dust on your shelves, just in case someone happens to pop in one day and decides to pick you apart... to which I'm sure you'll all join in.
