Bottom, to provide belly heat, it would also be more efficient that way to provide proper temps. (less heat loss)

I think it also depends on the enclosure. My racks have back heat and work great in the room they are in. I always keep the room between 75-80F. I makes for a great heat gradiant. Many enclosure will work better with belly heat, though.

Since heat rises, it has never made much sense to me to put it on the back of an enclosure.

I only use belly heat. Back heat just doesn't make sense to me.

Bottom heat. It helps in the prey digestion.

Back heat really doesn't make sense to use. It only heats the back side somewhat and like someone already pointed out, heat rises! So while the heat may the very back of the tub, it will do a very poor job at keeping a good gradient. Plus, belly heat is better for digestion as someone also pointed out. Basically, when the snake wants to warm up, the belly heat is a much more efficient option than back heat.

Both are fine. Depends on the system like waltah said. Though, I do believe that side heat takes a little longer for the snake to digest its meal.
