WARNING -- Possible Scam -- JSReptiles
Some very shady circumstances have come to our attention regarding a member known as JSReptiles. After quite a bit of investigating, we are certain something fishy is going on. And due to a high traffic of Private Messages with a variety of our members, we felt it necessary to get this information out as soon as we could.

It was brought to our attention that there were two identical business sites set up...same basic templates, exact same pictures, exact same wording.....except there were two different business names AND two different personal names associated with these two sites.

    JSReptiles -- Jack Spears:
    http://www.freewebs.com/jsreptiles/index.htm

    rollinsgotherps -- Jacob Rollins
    http://rollinsgotherps.webs.com/aboutus.htm

One of our admins (rabernet) sent a PM to JSReptiles to inquire about this curious oddity. Later that evening (Sept 23rd) when JSReptiles logged on and read rabernet's PM, the rollinsgotherps site suddenly vanished from the 'Net. (As you will see, that link is now broken)

But we got a couple screen shots before it disappeared...
    https://ball-pythons.net/images/asun...m/GotHerps.jpg

    https://ball-pythons.net/images/asun...lesaboutus.jpg

    https://ball-pythons.net/images/asun...rpswelcome.jpg

    https://ball-pythons.net/images/asun...leswelcome.jpg

When JSReptiles answered rabernet's PM, he said the rollinsgotherps site was a complete rip-off of his own site. He said he had notified the owner and was in the process of trying to get it removed from the 'Net.

However...a closer look at JSReptiles's site revealed this:

    https://ball-pythons.net/images/asun...cam/gotcha.jpg
Which clearly shows that the images being used on JSReptiles were being hosted by rollinsgotherps.

Both of these guys claim to be from Ohio. Both IPs show them to be from the Dayton area and are off only by a couple of digits. Both use .aol e-mails to register for this site.

Both have recent threads on Fauna. (Which this notice will shortly be attached to as well) Notice the people starting both these threads are also from Ohio and only just registered this month, which is exactly when this person suddenly bursts onto the scene. Please also notice the similarities with LAWReptiles and company (also from Ohio in the Dayton area) and how those threads intertwined. Make of that what you will.

    "Jack Spears"

    "Jacob Rollins"
    http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=116921

Where the same guy who started the "Jacob Rollins" thread also supported one of LAWReptiles's aliases.

Thanks for goin all "Grissom" on em! I hate scammers. It makes me not want to order animals from the net at all. There are of course a few sources (Adam, BHB, VPI and a few others) that I will not hesitate to buy from. I stumble around KS every day and see things I like, but because of people like this i'm afraid to make a purchase.

I would also like to point out and thank Eddie Strong (Wh00h0069) for bringing this to my attention. As I told him last night, the staff is very grateful for the community here that looks out for each other. We can't always be all places at once, so contacting a staff member about something that seems suspicious helps us jump on suspicious activity more quickly.

Each of YOU play a vital role here - so thank you once again!

    On another note...

A lot of these scammers that are being figured out don't want to spend money to make money - They're using these free web hosts that they can easily create multiple free web sites with false information. Free web sites - for me - are red flags.

    Note # 2.
The images that he stole were not watermarked. We urge you all to protect yourself and this hobby - Watermark your images with your name or company name.

The problem with this is that there are too many other sites that don't allow watermarked pictures because they consider them to be advertising. Unmarked pictures can be used on any site that I go to.

Well, so far the stolen images we've identified on this site have been taken directly from breeder's sites...where they certainly could have water marked.

Free sites don't always mean a red flag. I use a freewebs account until I can get a real website.

There are a lot of scammers lately. I'm glad that they are being found out though. I'm going to start watermarking all my images.

Re: WARNING -- Possible Scam -- JSReptiles
Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention, BP.net staff!! You guys really do go above and beyond the call of duty on this. Sometimes I'm just blown away by how far you go to protect the community--thank you! Also, one warning sign that I tend to notice is when the website/seller uses bad grammar, misspells a lot of words (especially when they misspell the name of a morph or species) and use improper capitalization.

I know it seems petty, but I think that most big breeders will take the time to make sure their website is written out nice and neatly, whereas a scammer probably wouldn't want to take the time to do it. Just like this guy didn't bother writing out two separate pages, but just copy-pasted the info from one website to the other.

I'm glad this guy got caught!

Here is the BOI thread in progress regarding the ongoing issues BPNet staff have been finding.

    http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...d.php?t=117501

So far we have Jack Spears and Jacob Rollins now associated with the whole LAWReptiles mess as well as numerous provable instances of stolen pictures from various breeder sites (some with the watermark removed). The BOI thread will be updated as more evidence is unearthed.

I would be very careful of the shows you attend in Ohio and the surrounding area, as this person and all "its" aliases all trace back pretty much to the Dayton, OH area.

Great job to the staff and also to Eddie for bringing it to their attention. This is an excellent example of the community coming together to expose a scammer and it should serve as a warning to those who may try use the site to run scams that they are being closely watched.

He stole pictures from Ralph Davis, who did have a logo on the picture. Watermarking over the substance of the picture might make it harder for them to steal the pictures.

Go BP.net guys! Who needs CSI when we gots our own Grissoms right here! Thank you!

I've been reading about LAW and his aliases for a while now on Fauna. This guy clearly has stolen some peoples snakes, and has them in his possession.

Is there any way that actual law can come into play and these people can get their animals back and this man can go to jail or at least fined?

I personally think that he should never be allowed to trade/own animals ever again. Or sell anything for that matter.

all 3 are the one and same guy. i live by dayton and have met several people that knows the scum. he has tried to pull this on several forums also and has also been to a couple of reptile shows trying t osell some knock off sick snakes as hypos. his last attemp was recently at the new sw reptile auction held in west carollton ohio which is not far from dayton. this guy is pathetic and a waste of our breathing air. if you run into any of the 3 sites i urge you not to buy from this guy and mostly likely if you do u will not get what you are paying for and if you do get lucky and get it im sure its going ot have serious health issues.

If you see him with my snakes at the shows tell him "Hi" for me. He told me to let him know the next time I'm in Ohio. Think he was trying to scare me because he also told me he was on parole. I do plan to swing by the next time we're visiting family in Dayton. Not to start anything I'll just tell him where I am and see if he shows. Would like to see if he bothers. I highly doubt it.

I disagree with refusing all online transactions. There are a lot of people that are awesome at what they do, and have great reputations. I think it comes down to having to do your research before making the purchase.

well the new news is lol that since i have bashed this guy on all forums that now somehow i was pulled into this by some thread by either this guy or a friend of his that they implied i could be jay or what ever his name is over at the fuana forum. now as the ones here that does know me and knows i am not a seller or breader and i know nothing about morphs and other animals other then the 4 carpet pythons i have, seem to think and trying to link me to either being jay or vnp or whom ever is all in this B.S. so now i am having to defend myself because 1 i am from ohio right outside of cincinnati and i made the remark i live by dayton meaning im 1 hour away but wasnt going to disclose my actuall community seems to bring question to the fuana people about me. i stated i have talked to the jay guy on the phone trying to purchase some cages after seeing a listing on craigslist.com then after talking to friends/fellow herpers i heard about how the scum was doing and trying to scam people. i never go on fuana hardly except to look for a carpet that might interest me or catch my eye since it is a classified forum but i stay on here mostly. its starting to seem not even a small personal collecter can buy a snake here and there these without being tied to or being a supposively scammer i guess lol. i have come to the conclusion i am not going ot defend myself any longer with these people because i have no reason to they can think what they want all they want. i dont sell or breed so whats the point of it if people doesnt have to worry about buying something from me because i dont sell animals. before long everyone in ohio will be deemed a scammer on fuana so good luck all of you that are in the state. and for you all that doesnt know me just ask collin and a few other that have had dissagreements with me i know very little about reptiles much less have the knowledge or experience to sell or ship or scam one lol. i'm not stupid but i dont know much about reptiles as i am still reading and learning myself.
