CL Het blue eye lucy
I found a craigslist add for a person in seattle who claims to have "het vin russo blue eye lucy." From my understanding there were only a couple of people who actually had these either het or full.
Is this anybody on here?
If i got one of these what would be the best ball to breed to, to try and produce a lucy?
I sent the poster an email so i will keep this updated when i get more info.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I'd ask for his name and references first of all...

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
To start with, the lucy that Vin Russo produces, "white diamond" is a dark eyed lucy, not a blue eyed lucy.
Up goes the red flag or did you just miss quote?
I know VPI have some available, it's not about the cheapest price, but getting the right animals....

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
So the homozygous Vin Russo has darker eyes even though they are compatible with the rest of the blue eye complex?
The cheapest to cross it with would be Mojave. I think I heard that is a pretty white cross if a clean white leucistic is what you are going for. Maybe lesser would be a little better for a bit more.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
According to the email i recieved back his name is Simon Elliot, and they are supposed to be %100 het. $1000 for a het seems a little high?

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
Check him out on the BOI :gj:

I thought het Vin Russos made blue-eyd lucies, and that as of now, only the fire made black eyed lucies. I know the het Russo x mojo makes a blue-eyed snake

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
The Het Russo is in the Blue Eyed Lucy complex, but it IS in fact a darker eyed snake.
It will cross with a mojo, lesser, butter, or another Het Russo to make a Blue Eyed Lucy.
White Diamonds just have that darker eye, sort of like Super Mojos have a purple hue to their heads.

I think that describes it better then I did... it was late and right before I went to bed when I posted.... LOL

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
Does $1000 sound like a lot for a het lucy?

Depends on the type, but in general, it is not unresonable.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
If I were gonna get one of those I would go to VPI and not some guy on craigslist.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
is this his email address he was wanting to trade a male lesser for my POG "Simon Elliott" <elliotts05@comcast.net>

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I got my albino from Vin. He had his Lucys and hets at the last white plains show. I didnt think that there eyes were any darker then any other lucys ive seen. this happens to be one of the few pics I took that day. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...RO1/004-17.jpg
as you can see in the pic he was selling het pairs for $2000. I think he was selling lone males for $750 ( don't quote me). IMO the only person i would buy a Russo het from is Russo.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
If you're looking at Russo Hets I definitely would buy them through someone like Vin Russo or VPI, since Russo hets are a more subtle "het" leucistic animal I would want to be certain that they're legit.
But all in all...$900-1000 is what VPI is selling theirs for, so I think that CL price is fair if it's the real deal.

Did you find any feedback on him on the BOI or the net in general?

I have no idea on the pricing for a het Russo - but it's bloody extortionate for a rehoming fee - isn't selling animals through craiglist against the rules?
If it is does that indicate the type of person you really want to trust with that much money?

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I'll chime in here and state that I've done business with Simon Elliot. He's a local breeder that does have some very nice animals. I got a huge female from him last year and I'm hoping to get some more of his animals this year. Here in WA area there aren't a lot of reptile outlets so there is quite a bit of such things done on craigslist. I see you found him on the PNWHS board, good luck with whatever you decide.

i haved talked to him via pm on pnwhs, im really contemplating it but i still gotta talk with the queen bee... the girlfriend.:taz:

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I did not see this post and I just signed up but I sold the Male Het Russo to Simon. I got my breeder male from VPI and he has produced some killer Het Russos. The ones I have hatched have not been subtle and they are super easy to tell. Most breeders pics of them have not shown them off to their true potential. If you have any more questions let me know.
Thanks Ryan Young

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I was going to post that I knew of two people in that neck of the woods that had het Russo's; Ryan Young and Nick Mutton.
But it looks like Ryan beat me to the punch.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
1000 bucks is a high "adoption" fee lol ;)
but in all seriousness, if the snake came w/ impeccable documents & photos that can be verified by the original breeder and you have the cash, go for it.
-
Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
Where did the original het russo/ white diamond originate from. Was it produced from another morph or was it from a ch or wc animal?
-
Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
most craigslist ads for ball morphs are scams so i would be very cautious and extremely weiry about purchasing one from craigslist. find a reputable dealer and purchase one so that you know you are getting what you're paying for and arent falling victim to another craigslist scammer.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
i just got a het russo from a friend. i traded some snakes for it but their going for around 750 to 1000 bucks for a female. they are alot better looking in person i must say. also the fact that they haven't been bred to other morphs yet to create new designer morphs makes them a snake with potential.
-
Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
$1000 is on the high end for the various morphs that produce blue eyed lucys. Not unrealistically high, but definitely on the high end rather the affordable end.
-
Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I know Simon and I was there when he bought the snake in question. I have dealt with him a few times and he has always been a decent guy to work with. The animal he has must surely be ready to breed by now as its at least 18 months old.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
I have to say that and the lesser/lesser are the best blue eyes I have seen, they're just so gorgeous. I'd pay 1000 for one if I had the cash, but if it's between a single male for that much or double that much for a male AND female, I'd get the pair because then you could get a full dark blue eyed lucy, which would be spectacular for breeding.
If you get that I would say try and get a lesser if you can, but you could always go for a mojo, I just personally don't like the tint to the head on the super mojos and as such am not a fan of the line (yeah I'm superficial, WHAT!?!)
<3 Whatever you decide on this matter, if it is the real deal then your decision one way or the other will be a good one, don't regret what you choose.

If everyone had this mentality, then what is the sense in anyone buying a het, since no one would buy from them when they produced hets? I do not see anything wrong with buying from the source, but I like to support the little guy also.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
The little guy is supposed to sell at a discount because he isn't a big name breeder, not sell them at a higher price, that's not how supply and demand works :P

That is not always the case. What if the big breeder does not have them available? Or if the little guy has a nicer one? I think that many people believe that to sell a snake in this business that they have to undercut everyone. That is only going to lower market value for that morph. If the little guy drops their price, then another little guy will have to drop their price, then another, then the medium sized business, then eventually the big business.
As someone else posted, there are not many people producing het Russo’s, so there is no reason for anyone to drop the price. The longer they stay rare, the longer the price will remain high.

Where'd ya get that idea from? If a big breeder has crappier looking pastels than the little guy... who do you think has the right to charge more?
Big name means NOTHING unless the quality of the snake is equal to the price being charged. and even THEN, if you REALLY want a snake, price does not matter!
Anyone can charge... whatever they want for their animals. they will either sell, or will not sell.

Re: CL Het blue eye lucy
Here is a picture of a normal sib Vin comparison. It is not hard to tell them apart. I am still not sure why everyone is so hot for fires when vins look as good and do not produce a lucy with yellow splotches. I think the vins were not marketed as well but I am sure some of the future crosses will make people look again at them. As far as big Name breeders I had a very well known one who was already working with Vins wanted to get some more from me as he thought mine were really nice.
