How do you keep your snakes from dumping their water!
How do you keep them from doing it! I'm going nuts! I have a smaller water dish and about every other day it's getting spilled. I fed him yesterday and this morning his tank was about 1000% humidity  I had to pick him up and clean out his tank! :taz:
He's 3 months old, 105 grams, and he's in a 6qt tub.

Ceramic water bowls.
Hope this helps.

The larger the bowl, the better chance of the bowl not being tipped. I like either 5" or 7" bowls myself.

Yep. :) For a little dish, go to the rodent section of a pet store for those little ceramic dishes, they work great!
For larger dishes, you can't beat ceramic cat bowls.

Ditto what the others said - and also a word of caution, my corn used to do that all the time, and he got scale rot because of it. So change it soon :)

Re: How do you keep your snakes from dumping their water!
I use inexpensive plastic dog bowls - the kind that every petstore and Wal*Mart has stacks of. They're low enough to fit well under the lids of tubs or within a rack, fairly tight underneath so they make a cozy coolside hide, and pretty impossible to tip - especially in a rack / tub setting.

I use these water bowls. I like that they are light weight but don't flip.
This first one is about 3-4" in diameter across the top

This large one is about about 8" across the opening

Get some pvc, cut a little bit of, set the water bowl inside the pvc!

Re: How do you keep your snakes from dumping their water!
with just the 4 snakes I use the reptile water bowls that look like rock. Otherwise a broad base or jusT A HEAvy bowl should be fine. Dollar stores are woderful places to stock up on these types of supplies.

Bingo! I like disposable deli cups for my snakes. 8oz for the babies and 16oz for adults. For the 16oz I use 4" PVC couplers from HD. $2 each. For the 8oz my pal Charlie has been kind enough to cut me some out of PVC. I don't have the saw to cut PVC properly.

A small hand held coping saw will cut PVC easily.

This is what we use. At their prices (you get 3 doz of each size per case), it's very cost effective. They are less than 2 miles from my front door so no shipping either! :)

I like these because they are heavy, not easy to tip and since they are restaurant grade they tend to be easy to clean/disinfect. They are a family run local business so that makes it even nicer to buy from them.

No kidding! Not everyone has a garage or the cash to be able to utilize power tools like a chop saw. I was just providing an easy and inexpensive way to cut through PVC.

I use the white ones, they also have blue but no green:rage:

How are you disinfecting on a weekly basis? Dishwasher or just a spray and wipe? I used to use ceramic bowls and just found that they took a lot of cleaning time every week. With close to 100 snakes cleaning needs to be as quick as possible. :)

Thankfully we are only at just under 50 snakes and only the BP's use these.
I just do them on a rotating basis so I'm not doing all of them the same day of the week. I just pop them in a sink brim full of really, really hot water, a shot of dishsoap and a good glug or two of bleach. I let them sit while I'm working on that rack of snakes. By the time I'm done that rack, they've had a good time to sit in that. Then it's just a quick wipe to make sure everything's off and a rinse under running cold water (I have a double sink). It's really no big effort - or I'm just used to doing it LOL.
I do think eventually though we'll need to go to disposable water dishes. My bleached out hands would appreciate that. :)

If money is an issue, abandon the PVC all together and walk to the dollar store for a dog bowl.

Makes sense to me! I had a ton of those small ceramic bowls and have broken most of them. :) I dropped them constantly. I'm pretty clumsy it seems!

Re: How do you keep your snakes from dumping their water!
I like them for now and after years as a mom and working in restaurants I'm pretty handy with dishware LOL. The only bad part is I'm a bit allergic to bleach so I have to make sure I have every bit of ventilation I can get into a room before I uncork the stuff for cleaning or laundry or I'll having breathing issues.

:8: You're a funny guy!
As long as you don't wear perfume, it's all good. I can't be around that either. Walking through your average high end department store is hell for me. I live in fear of those damned wandering perfume girls!

I try! Sometimes I succeed too! :D
I hate those perfume girls. Makes me want to bring something to spray on them when they try to spray me. I have some ideas of what would go in MY spray bottle.

Re: How do you keep your snakes from dumping their water!
Ok, I went to Iowa City today and got a nice ceramic bowl. I was looking for a dog dish that would work, but they were out of ceramic other than the very large bowls. So the BF reminded me that their are ceramic cooking dishes. I picked up a couple of the Corningware custard bowls :gj:
