    Enchi versus Pastel
So, for some of you that have been following my blog, I hatched out this animal a couple of weeks ago.

She was a PASTEL when she hatched, then gradually became an ENCHI.

    How does this happen?

    Mystery clutches!!!

I had no idea, and seeing as how she was my first Enchi (and only) to hatch out, I assumed it was a Pastel at first.

Even some people who came to my house who shall remain nameless said "That's a Pastel"

    Nope.

    It's an Enchi :)

if genetic doesn't apply to this animal and there was no enchi parents, may be it's just a pastel that have enchi apparance but nothing genetic.

Looks like you will have to prove/test it's genetic :)

I have an Enchi male, and he was a possible sire to the clutch, so I think I'm pretty solid on the genetics. But yes, I will have to test its genetics just like everything else... :)

The one on the left is sooo the Enchi but where is the baby picture again? Can't recall if I've seen the questionable baby snake photo

(makes mental note not to ever breed a pastel and an Enchi to the same thing as to not have H's identity issues)

The lack of blushing on the head would be questionable for a pastel but yea I would have thunk pastel as well.

This was the first one, oh wise one... And it was a mystery clutch.

Normal x ALL THE MALES WHO WOULD HAVE HER

Result was one Spider, one Enchi, and four normals.

I can see from the baby picture why one might mistake it from a normal pastel -- it's not really bright like but it's pastelish for sure. But the one thing we know about Enchis is that they get more beautiful with age -- and it looks as tho yours just needed a little time to come into it's own -- you have solved your mystery.

Very beautiful snake Heather. The one on the left in your first set of photos is definitely an Enchi. I would definitely say from the baby pic, that it is an Enchi. I have an Enchi that just hatched about 6 days ago that is in shed. Once he sheds, I will take some pics of him and post him up. He looks just like the one in your baby photo. I was surprised to see this Enchi, as the first half of his body is very busy like yours (he is carrying another trait, but I will keep that secret for now). The other Enchis that I hatched this year were more "Enchi" patterned (i.e. more reduced and banded looking), but definitely have the very bright yellow coloration.

    Congrats on the beautiful girl.
