BP biting Face
i read somewhere on the internet that sometime if you let a bp get too close to your face, it will try to bite your toung, because all they can see is the heat coming from it. The thing i read also said that most of the time the bp misses and ends up biting your face, which can lead to reconstructive surgery. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Or has this happend to anyone here?? Just wanted to see if this is a myth or not. thx:)

Re: BP biting Face
Where did you read that. Not bagging on you I know you read it somewhere and are smart enough to come on here and question it :gj: but my god thats retarded. lol.

Re: BP biting Face
I heard it happened because because they smell your food.

Re: BP biting Face
i think this belongs in one of the myth threads...

Re: BP biting Face

Re: BP biting Face
We should so do it.
Write a big b-p.net note asking, so we wanted you to prove out a myth for us, is it true that because ball pythons see more heat on your tongue, that is what they try to bite when biting at your face?

Re: BP biting Face

Re: BP biting Face
It's true your head is a big heat emmitting block. A snake that is in distress or hungry could very well focus on your head when striking. It's not a total myth in that regards.
Why in the world would someone stick and wag their tongue out at their snake?
Also, ever been bit by a BP? Hardly a mark if you ask me. I've been bit a couple of times, and each time it felt like a pinch, the only reason I bleed a little is because their teeth are sharp and small, so they can make a nice little spot.
In my opinion, a paper cut or hangnail all hurt and bleed worse than a BP bite.
Now, go get bit by a BP, then an adult rat, tell me which one seems more dangerous. ;)
(im kidding, dont try to get bitten)

Totally agree. Especially a female rat that thinks shes protecting her babies (well she is kind of because they're snake food lol) I've never tried to get bitten but I have one breeder that will bite and HARD every time I reach in even if it's just to change the food. Compared to a rat bite a BP bite is nothing.

Re: BP biting Face
I'd love to respond properly to this thread but you see I can't really see the keyboard well with the 40 odd snakes hanging off my face.
What a crazy myth! If you are silly enough to stick your face into the path of a striking snake, well you should get bit. If you wiggle your tongue or fingers or whatever at a hungry snake, you should get bit.
Best advice - try to be slightly smarter than your snake. :D

no, i ment because when they try to strike at your tounge while it is in your mouth, because it looks the hottest to them, your face gets in the way.
And yea ive been bitten by a bp. My bp has a good grip and alot of teeth. i still have little scabs from it. About 27 scabs. lol, he got the whole top of my ring finger. It didnt hurt that bad, just like getting 27 shots from the doctor in one location, lol. And there was alot of blood, it gets everywhere lol

Re: BP biting Face
A rat can rip you open in a split second. Razor sharp teeth that slice and dice.
Getting bit by a ball python is more like a kitty scratch.

Re: BP biting Face
well...and no one rag me about this. I always let my bp bandit around my face. He gives me kisses with his tongue on my lips and never has even attempted to strike me. In fact tomorrow is feeding day and I had him in my face showing my mom. He loves my hair and will crawl around my head to my lips and then gives me kisses. I would take pictures but I just hate my pic being taken. Maybe next time I will...lol

I'm not going to make fun of you, just point something out that you probably already know.
He isn't kissing you, he is smelling your mouth. Just about every animal I have ever dealt with always like to take a quick (or long uncomfortable whiff) of my lips. Our mouths are smelly and full of interesting things to sniff, and if you let them, they will just check out whats there. Not that you should, especially if they decide you smell delicious and filling. (Like some rats do LOL)
So yes, I have had my BP's show the exact same behavior and gravitate towards my head. It's warm, smells different, and a lot of snakes seem to like em.
Spokism, your snakes don't have xray vision. The warmth of your head all together would mask any heat our tongues give off and there wouldn't be any difference to be distinguished.
I've had plenty of snakes around my face and only one has struck close to my face. (She was upset and frustrated about me messing with her getting stuck shed off, not hungry)

Re: BP biting Face
ok, but that is not what I believe. i just read that online, and wanted to see if it was even remotely true. I payed it no mind, i let him hang out on my neck all the time. Also about when i got bit, it was really funny, because right then i was telling my mother how calm and docile they are, is right when he bit my finger lol :gj:
