Yup, there's a cool story behind it, the snake was passed down a lot. He said it doesn't have much left in it but hes still breeding and making clutches! It also has quarter sized white dots all over it, which he is trying to get as many females as he can from it before he stops breeding or dies.

I thought the oldest recorded was like 49 or something? Philadelphia zoo if i remember correctly.

EDIT: Found a reference on VPI's site: "This is a long-lived species of snake. Several years ago a ball python died after more than 49 years of captivity in the Philadelphia Zoo, setting the current longevity record for all snakes." It is near the bottom of the page on this link:

I believe there is an adult at the St. Louis Zoo that is over 50. The last time I saw it, the data card said 46....I think. That was 3 years ago, and it was imported as an adult. The number of years was not for the snake, but for the amount of time they had it. As far as I know, it is still there.

01[17:41] <+Beardedragon> hey josh, can I interview you real fast about that old male ball?
    [17:43] <@Josh> for what?
    01[17:43] <+Beardedragon> A forum
    [17:43] <@Josh> ?
    01[17:44] <+Beardedragon> ball-pythons.net
    01[17:44] <+Beardedragon> isnt yours 40 something?
    [17:45] <@Josh> nah
    [17:45] <@Josh> 37
01[17:46] <+Beardedragon> ah, and he is still breeding?
    [17:46] <@Josh> yeah, but that's nothing for a male
01[17:46] <+Beardedragon> didnt think so, im sure they do not loose breeding interest ever really unless they are close to dieing?
[17:46] <@Josh> no reason they shouldn't breed their entire lives, and the oldest one on record was more than 10 years older than that boy
01[17:46] <+Beardedragon> Yeah, so did you ever prove out those white spots?
[17:47] <@Josh> nope.... he and his 4 daughters are all together, and should be pairing up this winter
01[17:47] <+Beardedragon> Alright, thats all they really wanted to know, a question about how old until they breed poped up
    [17:47] <@Josh> huh?
    [17:48] <@Josh> like inbreeding problems?
01[17:48] <+Beardedragon>no, how old until they loose interest or something like that
    01[17:48] <+Beardedragon> for males
[17:48] <@Josh> oh, they don't, as far as i can tell
[17:48] <@Josh> my male is 37 and breeding, and like i said Eugene has a 38 year old female that still produces
    [17:48] <@Josh> she may be 39 now
[17:49] <@Josh> but late 30s all the same

Nothing else in regards to this thread went on after that

I was a little off with the age, but thats still a pretty good old ripe age
