Blue Eyed Lucy
I am in love with this morph but it's soooo expensive right now. I think they will come down over time and I'm curious what's the cheapest price anybody has seen one lately? I saw one at Daytona for $6000.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
$2000 EbN has a Super Mojave for 2000.00

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Anyone know where to even find a lesser bel or butter bel? I haven't seen any for sale this season.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Or you could just buy 2 Lessers or 2 Mojaves or 2 Butters, or 2 Phantoms or 2 Russos...etc etc, or pair those up and make your own. You can also do it with Fires but that'll make a black eyed (the Lucy I want) and won't make a lucy with the previous mentioned morphs.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
While your talking about BEL's...if you crossed a bel with a spider wouold you get a pure white snake...if you crossed BEL with most morphs you will get pure white snakes?

No you would get the Heterozygous form or the BEL and combos
Example Lesser BEL to spider produce Lesser bees and Lessers.

Phantoms bred to each other don't make BEL they make super phantoms. But crossed in to Lessers and some other stuff they do.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Yeah, I'm not really set up for breeding, plus the adult, ready to breed version of a lesser or mojave is gonna be expensive as well. Just wondering if people are starting to crank them out enough to get that price down into the reasonable range.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
It will happen.
When?
Probably sooner rather than later...
If you don't want to make one, but want to buy one, just wait a few years until you can afford it.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
It really is scary how fast their prices are dropping.

It's just supply/demand. Making a BEL isn't that difficult really. If it were a recessive trait well that'd be different. But I can't imagine lucy's dropping below $1500, hell if I had them I'd sell them for $2000, especially when you consider how much a pied costs.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
LOL with everything else in the world going up in price, I'm stoked that they're dropping! If you're in it to make a certain amount of money, just produce more :)

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
True with gas prices and everything its nice to see something affordable. But still I kinda wished they would slow down alil, it just doesnt seem fair for some breeders.

Actually, the BEL is a recessive trait of sorts. The only difference is that you can tell the hets from normals. You still need a pair of genes to make it.

BEL are made from mojaves, lessers, butters and russo. Fires make Black eyed lucys. Yellow belly/goblins make ivories.

I hope you're not as sympathetic to big oil companies. :-)

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Also, I think one thing that affects the price is the quality of the BEL. Some people say a mojo x lesser is the best, others say butter x mojo, etc... I haven't seen enough in person to compare the different morphs being crossed, but I have seen a few that have a blue-ish head, and others have a blazing white head. I think the blazing white is more impressive, but it's probably a lot of personal preference.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Personally as usual I'm torn when i see the prices of snakes I want dropping. As a person who wishes to own a bel, I love when the price is lower as it puts it closer within my reach. As a breeder who will hopefully make some in 2010 I hate it. What will be, will be.

But don't expect to make your money back in your first year and you'll be fine. Better yet, even if mojo/lessers are $200 in 2010 you breed a male BEL to 5 females...all your money back plus more.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
Again I can't see them getting too cheap still, I mean look at Ivories, Ivories are still $1500+ which are made with a snake that averages $125 for a boy and $250-$350 for a girl. I do think some of the base level co-doms will start to come down but that's because combo-morphs will become more prevailant.

Re: Blue Eyed Lucy
On 8balls site it says that "lesserXlesser will make a solid white snake with blue eyes."
I thought it was lesserXmojave?
