Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Hey everyone! First off, we survived Ike, and took alot of damage, and there is alot of clean up ahead, but we have power, 2 days after...we have power! We were told that we wouldn't have power for close to a month, and we were told to leave the town. My town is about 30 miles away from Galveston Island, and 10-15 form Kemah . Galveston was hit hard, the only reason the island is still there is because of the sea wall, the storm surge was at the top of the seawall 12 hrs before the storm even hit, this cat 2 storm had the surge of a cat 4. The west side of the island has no sea wall, and it is full of farmland and NICE beach houses, well there is no west side anymore. Our fav beach was on the west side too..:(
The storm itself was amazing! Watching winds so strong like they were really makes you realize the size and strength of God!
I could keep going on forever and ever about it all, but I am tired..lol. I still havent heard from diana, I sent her a text, she was on the north side of houston, but some parts dont have power in north houston.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers! Our town was spared for sure, it could have been way worse, like our neighboring towns. Keep praying and thinking for all the people that didn't fair as well as we did. :D

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Justin, it's soooo good to hear from you. We've all been worried, praying and sending up good thoughts for you and all those in the path of Ike. Sounds like your family came through relatively okay considering how bad it could have been. Big hugs and welcome back! Now go help your mom clean something LOL

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Oh Justin - THANK YOU for checking in - I was worried sick about you and your family! Now we need to hear from the others in the area!

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Glad to hear you made it out ok!!

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Good to hear you guys are alright man!

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Thanks guys! As far as I know I am the closest member to galveston, everyone else is northern, there is one more inactive member in galveston though.. Even my grandparents in Kentucky lost power and broke windows form ike!!:O
My town is oh so very luck, just lots of down trees( our town is known for trees nationaly):( power outages, wind damage..etc. Other towns just a mile away are horrible, its unbelivable.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Happy to here yall made it!:taz:

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Glad to hear you are all right. How scary!
We even had strange weather from the hurricane way up here in WI! Not damage or anything...just very werid. Stillness and humid heavy air.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Having lived thru an almost direct hit from Ivan, which was one mile shy of a cat 4, I sympathize with you. So glad you made it thru OK and that you got your power back so quickly!! Enjoy the clean up LOL, best thing you can do is make a point of stopping at around 3 everyday regardless of how you feel. If you don't you will quickly burn out. Took us 6 months to get my parent 2 acres cleaned up working 5 days a week on it....just aweful....

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Wow... Glad to hear you are okay!!

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
I'm glad that you managed to make it through the storm. I hope you are able to get everything repaired soon. The biggest thing is that you're okay.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Well we lived! No major damage, and we have power back today, so not that bad. We did lose a lot of food because we couldn't find ice anywhere, and my feed barn was damaged enough to get some feed and hay wet.
Our town is still out of power though, along with a ton of people. Took us three hours to get gasoline in the next city over even. But we made it.

We stocked up on it all, and we bought a generator at the last minute! It was all good. This cool front helped alot, even with the power we have turned the AC off and opened the doors and windows, its a cool 58 tonight!:D Where are you at Epona?

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Just checking in to say I'm alive... still no electricity at my house so I've taken the snakes off feed for the time being. Had a few trees fall down but no damage to my house. Some of the neighbors weren't so fortunate.... I am just at work right now so I'll try to give everyone updates here and there when I can. Got some groceries yesterday and a full tank of gas in my car today so it's all good..... ;)

I havent fed for about 2-3 weeks because of the stupid hurricane threats, I didnt want to risk it. I will feed tonight or tommarow though.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
I'm in Navasota, which is about 30 miles from College Station.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
Laura's back yard got tore up... a tree fell on her house but it doesn't look like it did too much damage... more damage was done to her yard, her deck, and her neighbor's house that the trees fell on. But she has a generator over there and they're doing pretty well otherwise.

Re: Hurricane Ike: we survived!
I'm so happy to hear that everybody has made it through this weather in safety. Understand we were thinking of all of you and crossing fingers and toes that all would turn out well.
Thank the gods for finger and toe crossing! ;)
Be well everyone :)

Aww. :[
I have become quite fond of Illinois's temperature ranges and weather. Plus I'm a sucker for thunderstorms.
I happen to like this state! It's cozy for me I suppose. :P

Glad to hear you're okay, or as well as can be expected.
