I hate to link this from another site but people need to be aware of this guy whoever he is. Please read this before you even think about doing business with this guy.

This guy so far already scammed myself and another person that we know of. He appears to be doing a lot of trades and will not ship first. Once he receives the animals he reports them dead only to turn around to try to trade them off to other people.

Yes, he sure did. And he tried to dupe me into sending him $800 worth of camera for a couple snakes that were from other kind folks that had supposedly died in transit to him. I spent the course of about 8 hours PMing back and forth with him, only to get frustrated when things didn't add up and called it off. Now I'm doubly glad I did.

What a dirtbag, assumes everyone is stupid. That's why I love the BOI. I hope this guy gets what I'm sure Karma has cooking up for him.

Whoa! I am just about to do a trade with him. He sent me pics and everything. He wanted me to ship first, and last week because he had a reptile show to go to this weekend (but later said he was camping with his family:confused:) but I had to wait till this coming week.

Reading about his ordeal about the $1300 he supposedly got ripped off, when someone failed to send him a fire...
This would explain why he was so hesitant about posting on the BOI about it.
He did finally do it, however never returned to post any emails between the two. Didn't seem to have much proof though in the first place though.

Looks to me like he posted this just to see if when he was caught scamming, if there would be any legal ramifications against him. It did not seem so, so he went ahead and started scamming people... I highly doubt that this transaction in the link above even took place.

BTW, the spider that you told Chris was dead is also shown on your photobucket account. I already took printscreens of all the animals you have on your photobucket account and so have others. So the proof is there. You even tried to trade off my little ghost as a female. We have proof proof proof.

What happens from here is up to you. If I don't get my animals back you will leave me no choice but to go to the authorities. I hope you have some sense in you and fix what you have done to me and Chris and anyone else you have scammed. Good luck and hope you have some sense to do the right thing.

Sam, please keep us up-to-date on what the authorities can do to help you get your snakes back or punish this jerk. Of course, a lot of us are following this over at the BOI as well.

Hate to hijack this thread but I really wish the ADMIN would consider a MINIMUM NUMBER OF POSTS RULE prior to allowing someone to post in the for sale section of this forum.

A good number to start with? 500. Even better? 1,000 This would EASILY stop this from happening so easily. Sounds like this DIRTBAG almost ripped off a few of my friends... and even worse, he almost ripped ME off!!!

I am so upset I am shaking... I even pulled my old camera out and was about to take picutres of it to send to him!

I sure will. I'm not going to let this guy get away with it. I emailed him saying he has until Tuesday to delivery both of my animals back alive and well. In the mean time I will be gathering all the information I can get in preparation of having to go to the cops to file a report.

I urge anyone else that has been scammed by him to come forward. Feel free to email me at samnangleam@yahoo.com or call me on my cell 773-454-0995. I will hold off on filing the report until Tuesday to see if this guy makes right by both Chris and I. Even then, if he's scammed anyone else and doesn't correct this I will do everything in my power to help those scammed to file a report.

He gave me Tim Koppenhofer's name as a reference since he does the show in Columbus as well. I've done business with Tim before and I find him to be a trustworthy person. Tim also does the shows here as well.

Although Tim has done business with Matt before it never involved a transaction that would require Tim to put trust in Matt. So Tim could not vouch for this guy. I called Tim about this and will also email him with the details so he knows this is going on as well.

I wouldn't expect Tim to do anything but I just wanted to make him aware of this as well as other that maybe potential victims. If you see him at the show would you smack him upside the head for me please? :D I'm only kidding, please don't do that. :colbert:

I just talked to Neil Golli. He doesn't know this guy at all- yet Allen/Matt claimed Neil as a reference.
I trust Tim 100% as well and yup if I see the guy next weekend you can bet I will smack him.

Thanks to the guys/gals that posted this. I saw this and out of curiousity went and read the thread only to find that the clown he was claiming he had and was trading in the deal was MINE. He stole the pic from my gallery on here (or my site)

Karma should be coming for this guy....right and swift.

This is a lesson for us all on not only asking for reference but verifying those references. From what I'm reading it seems he created some alternate identities to basically give good references to himself. Check out people, check out the people that they give as references. It's awful that we have to do this, but sadly, it's a reality. Thank goodness the scammers will NEVER outweigh the really decent people that remain passionate about these animals and this hobby/business and care about doing a proper sale or trade!

You are dead on Jo. I have gotten to the point of only buying from those here at BP.net (and are active, well known members) and a couple others at the Ohio show that I know have stellar reps.

You know what really sucks about this is that it makes everyone leary about buying from those of us that are new breeders. I am working on building rep from people but there alot of really honest people out there and jerks like this make it harder on everyone else.

I agree Rick. It does make it harder on those of us just starting to breed, sell, do trades, etc. It's just a nasty thing when someone uses this site or any site to run a scam like this.

That makes it even more important for us little people in this breeding world to get out there, go to shows, be a helpful presence here and on other good forums, talk to people on the phone and be as real as we can be. Let people get to know you has always been my best advice so that they can have confidence that you are not just a bunch of names you made up on multiple forums.

I tried to call Neil on the number he had listed on his site but that was no longer a working number. I had asked Allen about a contact number but he never replied. By then it was too late anyway. I should have been more diligent in tracking down Neil for a reference. Darn!! :mad:

I tried giving people a heads up that this dude seemed shady, based primarily on a gut feeling that I have developed during my 20+ years of experience with dealing with people in the herp biz. I am just amazed that people were willing to discard my intuition that something wasn't right with LAW and instead they came down hard on me for trying to look out for others. Yes, I called him a name that was against the rules but it turns out my gut instinct was dead on. The thing that bothers me the most is that not only did people not get that I was only trying to look out for them, but they totally disregarded my warning and were willing to set themselves up as potential victims of this person whom had no history with the board.

I hope this thread serves as an example that sometimes trust does need to be earned and that gut instincts can be just as valuable as hard facts.

Yes this type of thing makes me sick to my stomach. I will be producing my own animals this year after a few years of buying them and bringing them up to size. It is horrible to think that I may now be flooded with animals due to everyone getting scammed by the new guy! I've been working with a few of the bigger breeders in Arizona and also Neil Golli as well and they have all helped me a lot giving tips on feeding and breeding. Ive just recently started posting here on BP.net I usually scanned but wanted get to know the people I am sure I will eventually do business with. Hopefully things like this don't ruin it for us new guys!

While I appreciate your desire to help look out for other people, the staff here at BP.net cannot take action against someone based on nothing more than a single person's "gut instinct."

I still do not agree with flaming someone becasue of a gut feeling. If you had proof at the time, I would have backed you up. But with no proof, it seemed wrong to call him a bad guy and call him names. That is why I stood up for the guy.

The effect of this experience will more than likely make people more wary of dealing with strangers and hopefully more likely to check references. This guy for example gave Neil Golli as a reference. Had Neil been asked I feel sure that he would say that he didn't know this guy. If you can be vouched for by a few known and credible people, you will find people to buy from you. I would never buy or trade over the internet with a total stranger that I had no knowledge of other than his advertisement, with or without the Lawreptiles episode happening.

I'm with you on this one, Dale. I'm always, always amazed when I read threads over at the BOI about somebody getting ripped off and they do not even have the full name of the seller, any real idea of who they are other than an email address or any even basic idea of who they are doing business with. I've just never quite figured that one out yet?

Sorry but if I'm sending you what I consider a lot of money, I'm going to want to know more than that you can manage to open various email addresses to scam me from. :rolleyes: Not saying this is the case here, but you see it all the time and it's always confused me.

Kevin, this is just my personal take on it, not that of a Moderator here so take that for what it's worth to you.

Sometimes it's in how information is expressed. If your intent is to inform and warn, but it's expressed in a way that sets folks off, well then your good intent behind the message is sort of lost in the translation. This is made even worse on the internet when all anyone has is words on a screen to go by.

Sometimes, as difficult as it is, being careful of the words we choose to use here does actually work. :)

Eddie did you see the photo of the dehydrated wrinkled ball python that he was trying to sell a fellow member. That was a shame, and there is no way I could defend someone that tried to sell an animal like that, especially to an obviously inexperienced member of our little community here. That stuff matters, and if it makes you feel better to point a finger at me go ahead man! The people who have bought from me have been extremely happy getting great service and high quality animals because that is what everyone deserves when they spend their hard earned money.

I have been a positve member of this board and made a mistake in calling him a name, but if you think that one little slip defines who I am well your right! I am passionate about reptiles and those that choose this hobby as well. If I feel like someone is bad for the animals and the keepers alike, then there is no way I can not step up and say something even if it may offend someone and drive away a potential customer. The animals come first, period! I have seen many post and people that I didn't agree with but never voiced an opinion 'cause it was just that an opinion. With LAW it was much more than that and so I felt the need to call him out even if it was just a hunch. Sometimes in life if you wait for absolutes then it will be to late to follow your gut. I took a chance in an effort to help others, you are hung up on how I treated the person that was not on the up and up. I still don't get that! Eddie just understand that my intentions were good and although I was just trying to look out for others I respect your opinion to defend LAW even though I don't think he is worthy of you sticking up for him.

That sux that a few of you were scammed and I do truly hope for the best outcome for you, but I'm not going to sugar coat this either........does it take a 2X4, with scammer written all over to it, to the forehead to make you think "something's fishy??"
And to the one that recommended having a minimum post count in order to post in the classifieds.....brilliant idea!! Oh wait....the next Law Reptiles can come in and post "pretty snake" or "lol" 500X in about 10 minutes. Problem not solved. Just because a person doesn't post a remark/comment to every single thread doesn't imply that he/she is a scammer. Some of us come here to look at pretty snakes and just browse, pm with other members, or whatever....point is, a high post count amounts to a pile of poop if I don't know you.

Hello everyone, just catching up on the thread here and over on Fauna. I'd like to state that I don't know who this guy is. I cannot say that I've never sold to him as anyone who knows me knows that I'm terrible with names and could have very easily forgot his name. HOWEVER I would not give anyone a reference that I do not know exceptionally well as those references come back to reflect on me.

I have not been back to my office today as we are still very very busy with the buildout of the new building, thus have not been able to check my email records for anyone of the 12 address that he was apparently using.
