Chipo... The Story and the Genetics
    Well,

Since you were all around when she hatched, I will make this brief.

I hatched out a wierd black pastel from a "normal" to a Black Pastel clutch.

Four eggs, two went bad, and two were carried to term. Hatching happens, and one is badly deformed.

The one survivor I call Chipo, which means Gift in Swahili.

She never looked right to me, but I didn't really care. I was just glad she was alive.

A couple months later, I share pics of the mother with a couple of friends. I get a resounding "That looks Het Red to me!!"

I have no idea what Het Red really looks like, so I go on an info safari. What I find doesn't solidify in my mind what the mother is, so I wait.

Pan in to yesterday, where I get a call from a friend for me to check out Ralphs breeding records. CHECK CLUTCH 56, he says.

    I do!

And, lo and behold, the animals in question look startilingly similar to what I have in my collection today.

Now, I'm confused, as I have NORMALS, not Het Reds.

Turns out, and since I can't confirm this yet but for having to breed a couple more seasons, I have my own line of possible Het Red Axanthics.

And I am the first to produce the Het Red Axanthic Black Pastel.

Here she is, photos taken yesterday.

Re: Chipo... The Story and the Genetics
I'm not sure how that'd work out, I know it must be a head ache to think about, if you want you can just ship her my way and I'll sort all of that out for you! Either way that's a great story and I hope it'll prove out for you. I'm curious if you are to prove it out, will you be the one who gets credit with being the first to create it or not since you weren't sure of the second snakes heritage?

Wow awesome snake...make an albino...NOW :P. BTW I'm confused by RDR's page, did he breed a Het Red Super CInny to a Het red or just a Het Red to a Super Cinny? Cause if so how the living hell did he get axanthics out of it? *brain fries*

Re: Chipo... The Story and the Genetics
Its all incredibly simple. The red axanthics and the black/cinamon pastels are compatable alleles.

The resulting crosses are not magic they are "supers' they even have the "duck bill" of the super cinnys.

Breed the cross toa normal and I will guarentee you wont prodcue a single normal, or a single combo, just het reds and black pastels.

Heather, Congrats on a nice animal!!!:) What are your plans for your Pos Het Red girl next season?? Are you going to put something Het Red on her or something different? You could always repeat the breeding and try to get a boy combo. Good luck with the project -- so many choices.:snake:

    Good question.

For now, I'm not worried. Just going to try and get her back to a good weight and decide later on what to do.
