I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
I had a container with some earthworms in it. Well I was getting my snake out and the container spilled into its tank. It ate one. I don't know if they are supposed to eat worms or not. It should be fine but I'm just wondering......has anyone ever had a snake eat an earthworm?

I have never heard of this before.
If the worms were not from the wild then I wouldn't worry about it, if they were I would take it to the vet to check for possible parasites.

Never heard that happen before.
Did it constrict it and swallow it??

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard.
How often do you feed it??
-
Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
Are you sure it ate it? I just cant see that happening!!!

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
There is so much to learn.....
Earthworm. Huh. Who'da thunk?? :weirdface

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
Which snake was it? the corn or the ball? I can believe a corn better than the ball.
-
Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
just got it. I got it off craig's list. It was fed by me for the first time yesterday. I've had the ball for about 3 days.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
That is very strange... wow. Though I don't suppose that anyone has really *tried* to feed their snake an earthworm but... wow. Thats odd.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
Well, earthworms are kinda pinkish...maybe he mistook it for a really long pinky rat!
-
Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
I had ring neck snake for a little while that would eat chopped earthworms but I can't say my ball has ever tried them lol. She must have eaten it pretty quick if you couldn't get it away from her (not that I suggest getting in the way of a snake and it's food lol) that in itself seems a little odd to me :weirdface

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
the worm wasn't straight. It was in a little ball so maybe it did think it was a pinky. I saw that the snake had the worm but I wasn't about to try and take it away.

I doubt it thought it was a pinky since they go by scent, not how it looks.

I guess your snake has worms now doesn't it?
Sorry for my really bad taste in jokes, I hope hes ok!

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
What were the earth worms there for? I find it hard to believe that you accidentally dropped a worm into a ball python's cage at the exact time you opened the cage, and that the ball python ate the worm before you were able to reach in and get it out.
Are you sure you didn't think that ball pythons ate worms, so you dangled a worm in front of it and it ate it, only to later find out that ball pythons eat rodents? If you did, it's no big deal. It shouldn't harm the snake other than maybe some loose, smelly crap, and at least you know better now.

I feed them to my oscar. I left it open and bumped the stand when I was opening the ball's cage. the container fell in.
If I wanted to see if ball python's ate worms...I would just say that.I'm not new to reptiles. That is why I thought it was strange that it ate it.

Gotcha. Sorry for doubting you. I just saw the list of animals you in your signature and couldn't figure out how the earth worms fit into their food. You have to admit, it is one of those stranger than fiction scenerios. :)

I dunno...many keepers claim their snakes prefer rodents of one color over another. I have personally witnessed this with my BP. Its plausible.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
Which one ate it? IF it was the corn snake sometimes they'll eat them in the wild. And btw my kenyan sand boa will ONLY eat white lab mice, he refuses anything else.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
First I've ever heard of a snake eating a worm.

yea that is why I posted this. I though it would have realized it wasn't a rat and not eat it.
I don't have the oscar on my list because it isn't technically mine. It was one of those "hey can you watch my fish" and they didn't come back to get it kind if things.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
I have a LTC southern ringneck that eats worms, and the occaisional slug if I happen to see any sliming across the porch. Never heard of a BP eating a worm though.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
yea, i caught a common north american brown snake when i was younger. It ate anthropods. It liked worms and slugs nd stuff.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
I could see some of the colubrids eathing worms, ringnecks, small kings or corns, but never a python. That's strange. Maybe he struck out of defense and then just figured what the heck.

Re: I think it will be ok but JUST to be sure...
lol, or maybe he just thinks he is a coulbrid:rolleye2:
