Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
Thank you! I agree! They are awesome. My mom was the woman who always said " I will never allow a pit bull in my home." and now she and Dante are buddies. She has asked for Dante to go spend the night there when my daughter goes. And he is such a ham...

Haha, I hear ya. My parents said the same thing. Even made me muzzle my dog when they came over or I brought it over. Their problem was they had never been around the breed, all they ever had known was the negative reputation the media associates them with.
Ps. I love Dante, he is soo cute. Theirs just something about Pitbulls eyes that melts me.
You can totally see how much they love you in their eyes.

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
He is very cute! So he is alright around cats? I am not a huge dog person - but I love pit bulls. I have never owned one (we have 2 small dogs and a lab - we have had a chow mix in the past) but our neighbor has one that got out one night and I watched her. She was the most amazing dog I have ever come in contact with and she really made me want to get one when I move out and am living on my own, I don't think I would feel safe on my own without a dog.
I'm scared of any big dog around cats, not just pits. I know a greyhound and 2 standard poodles who have killed cats but they never grew up around them, it still scares me though. Do you think if I had a puppy and raised it around my cats a large dog would be fine with them?
Sorry for the question on your post, I am moving out in a couple months and am really thinking about a dog - I have never had dogs/cats mixed so I don't know how it works out. Our lab doesn't mind our cats when they are indoors (cats live in my room so she only seems them when my parents go out of town and she sleeps with me) but she attacks ones she sees in the yard.

I used to be totally against ear cropping but then I saw how his came out and I like them. The only reason didn't kill my boyfriend for having them cropped was because we do plan on showing him. Some people dock their pit bull's tail but that is against the breed standard. They are supposed to have natural tails. Even though it can be used as a weapon.lol.I swear, that tail is like a whip. I was wrestling with Dante a while back and he gave me a black eye with his tail.

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
Our female Lab does that. Nothing worse than the "happy Lab" tail clearing off an entire coffee table of drinks, snacks, the tv remote, etc.
What always cracks me up is then she whips around at the noise of everything going flying with this "huh? what happened?" look.

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
You are so making me miss having a big dog. We had a rottie and that dog was like my "little" brother. I loved him to death. I love pits and I really want one. (we babysat one for a few days and she was an absolute doll baby). We want to get another dog when we eventually get a house, but I hear that pits can sometimes be animal aggressive even though they are not human aggressive. Just wondering since we have cats and a small dog.
Your dog is gorgeous by the way. I love his eyes. Anyone who says animals don't have emotions have never looked into a pit bulls eyes.

yea they can be animal agressive. But if you get a puppy and raise it with the animals you already have those animals will be family to the dog. We had 3 cats when we got Dante and now he loves cats. But other things like squirrels...he thinks are food.

You shouldn't have a problem with your puppy getting along with other animals if you socialize it properly. Make sure your pup meets everyone and everything. They are so curious about everything. I tell people that when we walk,Dante is reading the newspaper. He can tell what dog was right there, how many times it passed, sex of the dog,if it is pregnant,if its in heat,if it is sick...so yea..lol..it is like a newspaper to them.

Thanks for the reply, I know of a lot of larger dogs that are fine with cats but when those poodles killed my friends cat I've been scared of the idea of getting a dog. I talked to my mom about it (since I am renting one of her houses) and she seems to be okay with the idea of me getting a dog. I really want to try to adopt a pit bull puppy but I wouldn't mind a boxer either. I'll make sure and get it out a lot, we never did that with our lab and its impossible to take her anywhere now. She goes crazy over the sight of another dog and our neighbors at the end of the street have 5 outdoor dogs so its impossible to walk her even down the street

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
Aww he is adorable. What a big love bug.
Does he have a high toy drive? I have a Shar pei x pit bull mix and holy cow, she loves her toys. She has the same little toy basket ball she stole from my kids. She loves it.

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
Don't worry about pit bulls and cats. I have two pit bulls and 5 cats. The cats rule, and the dogs know it. Our bigger pit bull, Alex, was adopted at 8 months old and the cats very quickly explained who was the boss. Then about 5 months later we got a very small black kitten. Alex was very gentle and careful with her. She would climb him, claw him, chew on his ears and his lips and use him as a scratching post. All he did was whimper when it hurt, then when he had enough he would just stand and walk away. He would even clean her and cuddle with her.
We always supervised them, especially at first, but he never attempted to hurt her.

Beautiful pit! I had to share a pic of my pup that I had a few years ago.. He reminds me so much of her when he was a puppy!

Re: Dante,My American Pit Bull Terrier
Very Very Nice my favorite "Pooch". Super cool photos and I'm going to use some of them to help my buddy who just got his first real "bulldog" convince his mother-in-law that now lives with him and his family to give the new little girl a chance. I haven't gotten to meet the little "pooch" yet that he only just got last week and she is only about 3months old but she is described as having a perfect temperment even around his other little cockapoo and cats.
Never underestimate the "B" Factor.... :gj:
