I'd like to get a brown water python...
...in the future. What do I *need* to know about the species before bringing one home? There doesn't seem to be a care sheet for them here. I was thinking, if I get a BWP I'd keep it in a long, semi-deep rubbermaid, so it'd have room for a "swimming hole." Good idea for housing? I saw one in a pet store and its scales were stunning. I love irridecent snakes! They're my weakness. :D So here are some random questions...
    Are they an aggressive snake?
    Do they get very big?
    Are they picky eaters?
Would you classify them as a beginner, intermediate or advanced in terms of keeping one?

It is. :D And it looks like I won't have any trouble keeping one. YAY. I wonder how dark they get... I'd love to get a nearly black one.

Hows your sunbeam doing by the way? I would get one, but the fact that they spend most of the time under soil, and aren't exactly handling pets turns me WAY off them. Sadly.

Have you looked into Macklott's pythons at all? They are very similar, but I'd pick a macklott's over a waer python any day. They are just really cool snakes. But so are water pythons.

I did. I actually looked into Machlotts before the BWPs. Don't they get much bigger?

There are three distinct population of Fuscus, The northern territory (australia) Queensland (australia) and New Guinea populations.

The queensland and new Guinea specimens are generally much more aggressive. Queensland specimens are essentially unvailable in herpetoculture, and new guinea specimens are only occasionally imported.

The northern territory form is the only Australian form available and they are quite difficult to find, They have become all but forgottern in the "morph craze"

If you are very lucky and find one they genrerally have calm personalities and are very easy to keep.

I keep a pair of the northern territory fuscus and they close to solid black.

Nevermind. Save your money for vet visits for the animals you already have.
