IBD RESULTS ARE IN - Pwilliams58
The vet called today. This was the first of 2 reports I will be recieving. Preliminary results indicate it is NOT IBD! They found the snake had a shrunken liver, lack of internal fat stores and and some discolouration around the gal bladder. The snake could be septic, meaning it had an infection which may or may not be contagious. They are continuing to do more brain slides to determine that. The vet says at this point I am pretty much in the clear. I will continue to maintain QT procedures with my newly acquired bumblebee, until I get the second report back. Thank you all for your continued support. She is mailing the report to me, and once it gets here I will scan, and post it.

This is fantastic news! I'm so glad it didn't turn out to be IBD. *phew*
Continue the QT and you should be in the clear is just as good too! Let us know what they conclude about the 'disease'.

You know... I was glad to help - but I'm kind of surprised to hear that you still brought the bumblebee in when you knew you could possibly have an issue with IBD. Glad to hear that the results are positive so far, I'm glad you got that kind of piece of mind with sending the snake in for tests.

Re: IBD RESULTS ARE IN - Pwilliams58
thats the nature of keeping reptiles... even the best keepers will have freak things happen.
good luck with your future endeavors.

Re: IBD RESULTS ARE IN - Pwilliams58
did they say what it actually was? I am super glad it wasn't IBD because I deal with rodentkings for feeders and wouldn't want to be exposed myself..

I'm certainly no bet, but:

sounds to me like malnutrition, especially the lack of internal fat storages.
Peter, was this the same snake that you were having difficulties getting feeding, by chance? I know you had one that was very reluctant to feed for you.
Congrats on the negative IBD test!

When this all started he said it was the non feeders from the captive hatched he got that were having problems. It was mentioned that it was possibly due to that... not good news that it died for malnutrion, but certainly better than IBD!

Re: IBD RESULTS ARE IN - Pwilliams58
The final diagnosis was emaciation.

Re: IBD RESULTS ARE IN - Pwilliams58
Hey I want to thank you and commend you on how you handled this. You went through with the full necropsy, you quarantined your incoming spider at someone else's house just in case, and you kept us all informed so we can learn with you.
Sorry once again for your loss, but you did everything right and hopefully will have great successes in the future!
