Snake Myths!
I thought this might be fun.
I was watching ReptileBytes and this came up.
Well honestly, how many topics are there that we have deemed Myths of some sort?
So I thought, why don't we put it all together. What are your favorite silly snake myths? Reptile myths?
Personally I just love the 'Snakes won't bite at a lemon' one. I hadn't heard of that one before! :D
P.s. I won't bite..
Much..

You mean SnakeBytes. Get it right.

Re: Snake Myths!
The other night my little spider tagged a fellow BP owner on the finger. He's still a little bitey, and up to this day only had failed strikes at me. This time he got my friend and actually drew one little dot of blood from her finger. Another buddy that knows absolutely nothing about BPs or snakes says:
"You better kill him. Once a snake tastes human blood, they get the taste for it and attack you every time you try and handle them!"

I can't tell if that was rude or not.
And I'm so tired that I don't care that I accidentally did that, I mix things up a lot like that..
If a mod comes around I would love if they changed it for me. ;)

I feel like I have to throw in my .02 here. Sarcasm is difficult to detect in writing. Forums are a bad place for sarcasm. Don't be offended, I feel like they were just trying to make a joke. Maybe some [/sar][sar] boxes are necessary:rolleye2:.

Yeah I suppose.
Usually sarcasm to me is followed by 'haha' or 'obviously' or something well.. sarcastic. It was just SO straight forward. :[

Re: Snake Myths!
Here's a myth i just heard a few days ago from my housemate when I got my first BP, its such a ridiculous story:
An old lady was keeping a 6 for long snake but it stopped eating. She tried everything to get it to start feeding and even went as far to put the snake in her bed with her at night. Eventualy she takes the snake to the vet after supposedly going months without food. The vet promptley tells the woman she muct get rid of the snake immediatly becuase the snake was fasting to eat her!
Creepy, and honestly a wicked story to tell so long as you educate people afterwards to the fact that a 6 foot snake would explode before it could possibly eat a human.

Re: Snake Myths!
i know the best myth started of all time. the one about the burmese pythons spredding to other states and regions outside of florida and the everglades.

Re: Snake Myths!
Yeah I think the Burm one has them all beat...
What about how all snakes are "poisonous??"

Re: Snake Myths!

Re: Snake Myths!
No she probably means poisonous. I get that all the time..."oh my god are they poisonous!!!!!". I think a lot of people that keep snakes get that question put that way.
I just usually roll my eyes and mutter something like "yes and I leave out all the cleaning products too which actually ARE poisonous, I'm just that kind of parent". People are goofy sometimes LOL.

Edit: Snakes suffocate their prey, so obviously it's slow and inhumane and WRONG.

Re: Snake Myths!
my favorite myth is the slimey thing. I take my snakes around to my kids' school to show the kids what a snake really is like, and ALL of them say, and I quote, "they arent slimey at all!!"
I LOVE introducing kids to the wonderful word of snakes!

OK, that caused me to expell my beverage from my nose. The image of a gang of juvenile delinquent Burms hanging out just cracks me up. "Sssss....hey lady....spare any change? I haven't had a rabbit in, like, 2 weeks."
