Spore anyone?
Anyone else excited to play this PC game besides me?
I had tons of fun making little creatures with the SPORE Creature Creator and the full version game that just came out today looks like it should be fun and different.
If you're into civilization type games this one should be pretty good, check it out.

Re: Spore anyone?
im excited to get it, im a little worried tho, as when he made the sims, they kept going and there are about 50 sims titles...(i have about 90% of them) i hope they dont do the same with this one. but yah it looks very fun

Re: Spore anyone?
I watched a special in Spore last night (missed part of it because I had to go to the hospital at some ungodly hour, asthma problems and I couldn't breathe) and I'm really excited about it!!! Unfortunately after downloading the creature maker for 25min last night and everything, turns out I can't use it on my comp because my video card isn't up to par. :(
And I can't buy the real version because I can't blow $50 on a game...
Anyone who gets it, let me know how it is!!!

Re: Spore anyone?
Well I was bored and I went out and got the game yesterday and I must say its pretty entertaining. Its great creativity wise; its almost like being a 3D model artist without the hassle. My girlfriend has enjoyed just creating little creatures; while I've been more focused on the actual game and evolving my species from my little ameba dude.
I'm hooked :)

Re: Spore anyone?
It's worth the purchase price if not for the gameplay, but for encouraging game makers to continue to look outside the box with their releases.

Re: Spore anyone?
spent a couple hours watching my roommates play it, and now i really want to buy a new computer to run it.....:P

Re: Spore anyone?
spore looks pretty sweet if i do say so my self.

Re: Spore anyone?
I just downloaded the free trial. If its fun I might go out and get the full version game.

Re: Spore anyone?
The creature creator is just a smale glimpse of what the full game is. I just evloved my little creature all the way into space. I created my space ship last night so that I can conquer the galaxy when I get home. :)

Re: Spore anyone?
I hope its not one of those games where everything happens too quickly. Does it take time and lots of game play to evolve the little critters? I hope so.
We just played the creature creator and I love it so far. I want to go out and get the full version.

Re: Spore anyone?
I guess that would depend on the difficulty you played on and the kind of approach you take with your creatures when it comes time to either A) allying with other creatures or B) wiping them out via combat. One will be easier or harder for you to do dependnig on your early development; herbivore vs carnivore vs omivore.
You also need to find parts to evolve, they're hidden all over the game map and you also recieve them when allying or wiping out other creatures. Supposively the real fun of the game comes in when you're able to make it into space and roam the galaxy.
You also get to choose when you evolve to the next level; so when you reach the requirements you're not forced to evolve if you don't want to.

Re: Spore anyone?
Just to add to what Spaniard said about the speed of evolving -- another thing that can really draw the game out is actually designing your creature the way you want. Parts cost DNA points. So if you want two pairs of legs, you have to spend 250 points on each pair of legs. You can tie an awful lot of time up just hunting around for points.

Re: Spore anyone?
Love it! Picked it up yesterday and spent quite a while just as a little ameoba thing, I think that was hilarious fun. I'm taking my time, so I'm still on the creature stage, and I'm enjoying every minute.

Re: Spore anyone?
I'm just installing it right now, but from the video's I've watched of it, it looks like a great game. We'll see in a little bit, hope it lives up to what I've seen!

Re: Spore anyone?
My boyfriend downloaded it last weekend. I didn't know anything about the game and came downstairs to get on my computer. After surfing the internet for awhile I kept hearing this music and was wondering what it was. It was his game. I thought it was funny when his creature was trying to befriend another watching them sing/dance. Sadly there is one song I can't get out of my head. :D
But it looks like it is a fun game. Not sure if I'll ever play it, but it was fun watching him.

Re: Spore anyone?
When my little cell dude "evolved" into a creature, my game shut off. It said there was an error and shut down. I've gotten to that point in the game twice now and both times, it has shut down. ?????

Re: Spore anyone?
I can't believe that nobody is talking about the horrible DRM infection that EA put in this game. The SecuROM protection software they have in there has been linked to many problems with people's CD/DVD burners, burning software, firewalls, and general stability of their computers. EA also limits you to no more than 3 installs of the game before you have to call and explain why you're installing so many times. I for one don't want to have to explain why I'm using software I paid for the way I want to every time I have to re-install for one reason or another.
This is a game that my family and I have been looking forward to for around two years, and now I will not buy it, or allow that malware to be installed on my machine. Kudos to EA for their customer friendliness.

Re: Spore anyone?
Was there an article published or something?
-
Re: Spore anyone?
I'm sure there is stuff to be found about the DRM all over the net. One example: on amazon, there are a total of 172 reviews that gave it 2 stars or better, and a total of 1961 reviews that give it only one star. I'm sure part of that is some people are disappointed with a game that was hyped so big for so long it couldn't possibly live up to everyone's expectations. But most of it is because people like me are very upset that a game they have wanted to play for so long, they can not/will not play because they won't take the risk of installing it on their machine.

Re: Spore anyone?
I keep on seeing really biased sounding articles in both directions. Leaves me wondering what the pudding really tastes like...

Re: Spore anyone?
DRM == bad. Period. Of course, there's always ways around that -- its just not publisher supported usually. It's pretty ridiculous when you have to go out of your way just to play something you paid for. It goes along the same lines of out of hand gun control. All you're doing with it is hurting the law abiding citizens.

You're exactly right. DRM == bad, but DRM which installs itself as a highly privileged program that can't be deleted and can cause many problems with existing software == EVEN WORSE. When will these companies learn that they shouldn't treat their customers like criminals?

Re: Spore anyone?
I was loving it up till it turned into a RTS. :colbert:

Re: Spore anyone?
What is RTS?
We've been playing the game for a few days now and we like it. However, it does shut down unexpectedly from time to time. (Of course this happens to a lot of games on my PC, so I'm used to it)

Re: Spore anyone?
Ugh, I was sick all weekend so I sat at home and played Spore on my bros computer (well technically its my computer since I just lent him $2200 to buy it and haven't gotten a red cent back yet lol). I made it to the space age and now I'm so confuzzled! I can't seem to find any of the menus but every once in a while I stumble across something worth finding. lol it is fun and extremely addicting though!
