Re: why do you own ball pythons
If it wasn't for the money, I sure wouldn't have as many ball pythons as I do. I would still have a few though, because I love them.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I chose the pet option, the creating new morphs option, and the breed and make money option. I love my ball pythons and view them as my pets and I'm very excited about producing morphs and possibly some new crosses. At the same time, although I'm not in it for the money, I do hope to make enough money to support my ball python addiction :-p

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I chose all but "breed to make money" because I know in the end, unless I decide to go full time with this and invest a lot more money than I have right now, the best I can really hope for is to break even. Which I'm fine with! The joy of owning and breeding these awesome animals is worth more than any amount of money to me :D
Just my .02 lol.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I got my first snake because I was afraid of snakes and I wanted to conquer that fear. It didn't take long for me to see just how amazing these animals are. Now my only fear is running out of space to keep them all.
-
Re: why do you own ball pythons
I got into snakes thinking it would just be a pet. After getting exposed to all the morphs and the concept of designer combos I got hooked. The prospect of being able to select my breeding stock and produce combos was something that really appealed to me. I like the complexity of all the genetics; the patience required in raising the animals and all the husbandry tweaking along the way as I became a better and more knowledgable keeper.
The whole experience has been great as well as a lot of work so far.
I think my favorite thing of all is raising a snake. Watching it grow from this tiny creature and seeing how the coloration and pattern progresses with age.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
my reason for having a BP 5yrs ago was to have as a pet. im allergic to dog/cats/bird etc... snakes was the best way to go. the begining of last year i decided to get into the world of breeding, i dont have large amounts of $ so regular/simple morphs & normals is what i would like to start to breed. then move up to more interesting morphs one day.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I hate when people get into a hobby like this for money alone. Because it's a 'big money market'. Bothers me a lot.. I just heard of someone doing this the other day and it made me mad.
Money is always a good thing, but it's not nearly as important as caring for the animals you have. You need to love the hobby to be good at it. The experience is priceless as well.
I handle different snakes daily. I love them all. They are all my pets with names and future breeders. I want to create more of these amazing animals for people to enjoy as much as me.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I always liked snakes and I always wanted one for a pet. Then my husband said it was his dream to have a BP, but he had no knowledge of snakes at all and it wasn't a BP that he wanted but it took him a while to figure that out. By then we were both wildly in love with Dax. I think what he meant was either a RTB or a burm. I'm still not sure though and I don't think he is either.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
BECAUSE I HAVE A WICKED ADDICTION!!!!!!!!!!!! AARRGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NEED MY FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I chose them all. As for the making money part. I just want to make enough monies to buy more snakes! Mostly it is to be cool though.....to be very very cool. heh. I am so funny....right...right....

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I like bps cause they're an easily manageable python. I like the shape of the head and body proportions. I just think they're good looking snakes. I want the many morphs, but I also want to breed so others can have them :) If I happen to make a profit, great! if not, then at least I have my hobby that I enjoy that keeps me out of trouble ;)

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I own ball pythons first and foremost for the love of the animals. I've always had pets for as long as I remembered and after my first snake I was hooked. Then the first time I saw a pic of a bumblebee I was hooked on morphs and started breeding to slowly build up my collection.
I am yet to break even but thats fine by me. My collection grew from 1 snake to now 30 adults and 30 babies. I just want to breed to build up the collection of various morphs. Breaking even would just be an added bonus.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I would say to be cool... but I would need new hair, clothes, and a new CD collection for that (and perhaps one of those Ipod things all the kids are rocking these days).
And I cannot afford that as I spent all my money on snakes.
Worst part is that snakes really aren't that cool. Except for the pinheads that take them out in public who ever sees them?
They sleep all day. Hide 90% of the time. And when they are out people never really want to see them.
I need a dog or something.
Nuts to the snakes... they are B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I take my snake Kyros out in public to educate people about snakes. In my opinion lizards are the B-O-R-I-NG ones. Yeah my snake hides but you can take them places and they just chill on your shoulder. I'm taking Kyros to the Renfest this sunday if its warm enough . I don't like Lizards. They are no where near as cool as snakes.. Wow they have legs... so does everything else on the planet mostly. Hehe and when your snake learns to trust you, you can take it places when the weather is nice. They will drink from a cup while you hold them and even let you give them a massage!

I whole heatedly agree. Just bought a jungle pastel from Adam Wysocki and I am totally stoked.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
Jasper was my first snake. I got him 1993. I presume he was WC. He'll be with me til the very end, but I highly doubt I'll ever purchase another BP. They bore me.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
You forgot the category, "Inherited from your child who eventually left home for college and left the snake behind." Of course, she really had no choice and now that she has an apartment, I won't let her have it! Just because she comes home all summer and for vacations and stuff. Can't be moving that baby around all the time!

 LOL Thanks for the morning laugh. Another category was also forgotten. That would be "Husband just had to have it and now is training and the kids are young so I am stuck taking care of this thing that just two weeks ago I refused to touch." Ok, so now I touch him and occasionally pick him up but you get the idea. Maybe in another month I won't have to offer a mouse and then RUN to the other side of the house.

Re: why do you own ball pythons
I think ball pythons are the most boring snake out thereno offense but they just dont do anything
