    Second stimulus check?
Are they sending out another one?

I hear whispering but I'm not sure if it's true.

Same here, though I'm not sure it's for the same reason. I get testy because not everyone got one, even though I'm sure every single family in America could've used it. According to uncle sam, we were too "rich" to qualify for one, even though we pay more in taxes and we've got heftier bills too.

The whole idea behind stimulus checks is we-todd-did.

I don't really see the benefit from borrowing money from a rising superpower (china) to fund handouts to people who then turn around and consume more of the goods that we import from them.

Sure, a few hundred bucks is nice, but when everyone's buying power is simultaniously increased across the board, something called "inflation" occurs. In the long run, we aren't going to be any better off until we start competing better in the global economy.

I was thinking instead of sending everyone a check what if they sent us a credit to switch our cars over to natural gas(it only cost a few hundred bucks)redemable at an approved mechanic.

It would save us alot of $ repeatedly, boost the economy(with the extra $ we have to spend), reduce our dependence on foriegn oil and help clean up our air. Of course they would have to tell the gasoline industry they have to provide that fuel as well.

That would be $ well spent, but it seems our government doesnt grasp that idea very well.

For those who arent aware natural gas is produced here in the USA, is cheaper and burns much cleaner(why do you think we cook with it).

Listen to Pickens, he makes perfect sense;)

    Re: Second stimulus check?
Obama wants to give out a second stimulus check of a $1,000 funded with a new tax on oil companies.

We need new alternatives to energy and we need to get off of foreign oil. Gas is expensive and only going to get more expensive. HOWEVER how is taxing a company going to lower the price of their services? If you set a cap on how much money a company can make why would they ever strive to make more than that amount. If that company is suppling your country an essential ingredient to survival what happens 6 months into the year if they just shut everything down because they made their cap and there is no point in earning any more money. Money, PROFIT is why you go to work and why companies exist.

I swear on my life if I get a refund check that is directly taken from excess profit tax on the oil companies, I'll send the damn thing right back to Exxon and Shell as its out right theft.

If the government ever came to my door and said you sell snakes and mice are suffering from it and you therefore must pay an extra tax to the "let mice be free" fund I'd move my business across the border before I could slam my door.

Most politicians are still jumping on the bandwagon that oil companies MUST spend x amount of money each year on finding new renewable resources. While that is important, think to yourself really quick how ridicules that is. Shell is an OIL company, not a wind company, not a geothermal company. If you had a PHD in heart surgery, should the government really come to you and say that you MUST perform brain surgery?

Doesn't almost all politicians have their greedy hands in oil? How I see it, as long as they're making money off of it, why change.

Obama's idea helps both consumers and oil companies. You might see it as hurting the oil company, and they will surely make it look like it's hurting them, but they'll get it back plus some in the long run. They're gonna get their money either way, whether its from tax breaks, or charging us more for oil.

Uh oh, I think I saw a plane crash within 100 miles of an oil refinery, time for gas to go up....;)

If it's only a couple hundred bucks, then why dont we do it with the 1k we get? It's your 1k, do what you want with it. Now would be the time to do it IF you have it available. Once people start joining the band wagon, natural gas will sky rocket like anything else in demand.

Your right, the problem is, then why take a check in the first place. If your going to pay for it anyway, why borrow the money, just to pay back more in the future for even higher prices at the pump.... Your basically buying groceries on a credit card, its going to catch up with you as you pay twice as much in the long run once you figure in the interest.

I dont remember voting on the first stimulus check. If they decide to do it, it's gonna happen, and all the blind americans will be happy. The politicians make more money and we pretend to be better off.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the oil companies plan to make higher profits in the future no matter what, so how do you make it look better in the eyes of the consumer? Stimulus checks...

Its about reducing our dependency on foriegn oil. Billions of $ leave this country everyday to pay for foriegn oil, if you know anything about economics you would realize that is not good. Prices of gas have risen because the demand exceeds the supply, not the case with natural gas, we have plenty of it domestically.

It also is putting $ in the hands of those cultures which sponsor terrorism, that as well is not good for national security(Osama Bin Laden comes from oil $). The majority of 911 terrorists were from Saudia Arabia, none from Iraq or Iran for that matter.

It is also cleaner and much better for the enviroment. Ever wonder why we dont cook with gasoline? Because it would kill or sicken eveyone in the house.

Also if you have paid attention to the Pickens plan he says use natural gas until the technology for electric vehicles has improved enough and that becomes the better alternative for our transportation needs. Then solar/wind power becomes even more effective.

We need to start moving foward instead of using the same fuel that we have been using for over 100 years and has now caused economic, security and enviromental damage.

All other forms of technology have evolved but because gas used to be so cheap and has been the most profitable industry in the history of mankind we have not allowed other alternatives fuels to become part of our infrastructure.

Iran is now implementing natural gas cars (and we are not) because their people cant afford gas.
That is sad that a culture we call backwards is moving foward in this field and we just complain about it.
