A 49 foot python
Did anyone see this a 49 foot pyton - Indonesian villagers claim to have captured a python that is almost 49 feet long and weighs nearly 990 pounds, a local official said.
If confirmed, it would be the largest snake ever kept in captivity.
Hundreds of people have flocked to see the snake at a primitive zoo in Curugsewu village on the country’s main island of Java.
Local government official Rachmat said the reticulated python measured 48 feet 8 inches and weighed in at 983 pounds.
The Guiness Book of World Records lists the longest ever captured snake to be 32 feet. The heaviest — a Burmese Python kept in Gurnee, Ill. — weighs 402 pounds, the book said on its Web site.
The Indonesian newspaper Republika said the snake, which was caught last year but only recently put on public display, eats three or four dogs a month.
Reticulated pythons are the world’s longest snakes. They are capable of eating animals as large as sheep, and have been known to attack and consume humans.

Hmm...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3845750/p1/0/
That is the news article and you can launch the video - it shows video of it.
I'm kind of new to snakes so I can't really tell how big it is by the video but some others here might be able to.

Re: A 49 foot python
If they gave a better size reference from the side, we could do a snake length generator.

Re: A 49 foot python
Hmmm, I don't think it's 40 feet

Look, you must understand that a pythons length is not constant. Depending on the weather, on how recently he has eaten and when he last shed his skin, Fragrant can stretch and contract a great deal.
It sounds to me like they're talking about a worm (with no spine) instead of a snake. They claim he can stretch double the length that he was measured at? Riiiight....

Re: A 49 foot python
Yes this is old news. A real scientist eventually showed up with a tape measure and the snake proved to be a more modest, albeit still impressive, 23-ish feet long.

Does that explain why I built a new rack this weekend and all I have in it is corn snakes? i thought I only messed around breeding ball pythons but now I have a rack full of corns? Must be that they all pooped and changed. Guess I better get some mroe meals if I want my balls back!

Did they recently shed? I'm not saying I'm 100% sure here but I'm like 99.7% sure that sometimes when a ball python sheds it comes out a corn. Anyone correct if me if I'm wrong...
