Thank You BP.NET Community

Hello Everyone,
About twenty days ago we added three baby BP's to our family, (Hermia, Pandora, and Sophia). Not knowing any better, I put them all in a 55 gallon aquarium. :confused: I was attempting to feed them F/T. Hermia ate just fine but the other two showed no interest what so ever. :rage: Well about a week ago I separated them all into plastic shoe-box sized tubs. And I went ahead and fed Hermia, and again she took her F/T meal just as before. I skipped an attempt on the two picky girls and decided to go get them some live prey. :mouse2: I fed them yesterday and they both took their meals just seconds after it hit the tub floor. :skullbone WOOOOH!!! :banana:
I will eventually put them all back into their own smaller aquariums and hopefully get the other two switched over to F/T. But for now I am ecstatic that they are all eating and will leave things as they are. :gj:

Its nice to see some took some experienced advice, applied it and had success:gj:

You would be surprised how many people have a problem and are given good advice which they dont agree with or like and then continue to have more problems.


Its all about helping the animals but some feel we are stepping on their toes and pride. Rock on

I'm so glad to read that the advice given worked out so well for you and for your three precious snakes. The major aim of this site has always been to assist new snakekeepers so it's wonderful to see that goal achieved in your case.

It's a lifelong learning curve with these wonderful creatures. :)

Yea, I hate reading through threads where it seems to be the same thing over and over. People arguing about how BP's should be fed live or F/T, How they should be kept in glass or plastic tubs.

What needs to be realized is that what ever you were doing wasn't working and thats why you asked for help. I wasn't getting the desired out-come so I changed some things and now it's working.

That's not to say that I won't try to change some things back, but not right away. I'll continue to give the picky girls live prey for at least four more feedings. And then I'll try F/T again, and if they still aren't interested I'll go back to live, and keep trying off and on. They might never eat F/T, who knows. And I probably won't try to put them back into glass aqariums until they start getting cramped in there shoeboxes. One thing I won't do is try to house them together.

So I guess what I wanted to get across to people with my first post on this thread. Was that if your here looking for help take the time tested advise of others and apply it. It doesn't always mean that what you are doing is wrong it's just not working for you right now. If you take others advise and you still don't get results then you've lost nothing if you do get results then you've gained everything.

Excellent comment, Tony! Often newcomers take it the wrong way when advice is offered (though some of us do need to sharpen those social skills about how to get someone to listen to you :rolleyes:). We are hopefully not going to slam anyone but rather, as in your case, point out some other options that might better suit the situation at hand. Your job as a new keeper is to consider the options, consider the source of the options offered and then make a reasonable plan that works for you and more importantly works for your snake.

I'd say in this case both "sides" did their job and you now have three happier snakes that are eating for you so a win-win all around. :)

I do agree with you that leaving the pickier ones on live for awhile is a good, common sense thing to do. Once they are fully settled in, eating with regularity then is the time to try and change things. Your instinct to stay with what is working for now is bang on!

Wonderful news! Here's to a bunch of chubby fat snakes for years to come. :salute:

Had another successful feeding last night. Man you can really tell that Hermia is not picky at all. (She is the one that has been eating F/T since the beginning). So last night when I fed the girls I decided to feed them all live and again just as before the mice didn't have a fighting chance. I was going to try to switch them all to F/T but now I'm on the fence. I was originally going to do it because of the hassle of having to drive twenty miles to get live food. But now I may start breeding my own.

I can sympathize!! All of my snakes eat f/t except for one. Instead of driving into town every week to get a scrawny live mouse or two, I drive into town and purchase four mice. The largest of the mice gets fed to the snake that night. The other three go into a nice little mouse home to eat and drink and get nice and chubby. Each week a chubby mouse gets eaten and my snake is really starting to put on some weight! Yea!!

I do want to switch her over to f/t, but, for now, I am not going to borrow trouble ;) I will wait until she's about 450g or so and then try the switch! You're doing the best thing possible for your snakes: keeping an open mind and doing what works for them! :D
