omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Ok, so our big girl Charm has been locking up with Hazard since early May, shes always been an amazing eater but tonight when i opened her bin i couldnt believe my eyes.. the girl looks like shes ready to blow!!! She was weighed back in July at 1500gr and tonight we couldnt even fit her on the scale and she was already measuring 2100g (again that wasnt even her whole body).. i highly doubt its even possible to have that much weight worth of feeders in there... anyone have any input? Our incubator isnt even finished yet!! Our breeder friend has offered to take the clutch (of course we called him FREAKING OUT) until we can get our incubator in order....
Is it just me or does she look ready to BLOW! If I wake up to a clutch full of eggs in the morning im going to have a heart attack, mark my word!! Perhaps she just has a really big poop in there and we will buy ourselves sometime? We didnt even write down her last shed (Which respectively would be about a month or so ago as a matter of fact) because we were following Arian so closely we hadnt given Charm any thought because she was such an awesome eater we didnt think it would be possible for her to be gravid (although the last 3+wks shes refused to lock up with Hazard our pastel male)
I didnt want to mess with her much because she was moody (unlike her) so the pics really dont do her justice, her bulging is at least half her body and her vent looks like its going to BLOW! She is so big around its almost unbelievable... i cant even touch fingers when i put my hand around her girth.. and im not a small girl

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
WOW, she does look like she's gonna blow! err... hows her behavior been? Curled up at all?
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
you should be able to feel the eggs of you gently feel her belly.
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
This is about how shes been... nonstop!
This pic i just took like 2 minutes ago...

She has been heat seeking ALOT, some streching out and tonight shes wrapped around her bowl because frankly i think shes out of room... she has been doing the perfect circle thing for quite sometime, Arian is doing it constantly as we speak.
As for feeling eggs, i tried to palpate her but she is one mad girl.. shes pretty squishy underneath, doesnt at all feel like hard poops in there.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
how would i know if it wasnt just a really big ovulation?? Im goin' nuts over here!!!
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
I know its the weekend and all, but that looks to me like she's going to lay... but not having a good eye at all for that,.... i cant be sure. I'd be going nuts too!

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
lol Connie... I keep going in there checking on her, I just went in and she left me a nice HUGE urates that i saw as she was "letting it go" and i almost cr*^^ed myself going "omg you gotta be kidding me! now?!" Of course I laughed when I saw it was just urates :rolleye2: Im loosing it already

My blood takes 500 grams poos, and she's still young... :wuv:

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
FORGET THAT Connie lol :weirdface
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
You mean you actually weigh the poo?!! :8: Connie that's disgusting!!! :D I am gonna wager that she's hiding 6 eggs and only about a 73 gram poo...:D
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
lol, Im not going to weigh the poo but i like that guess!! Wanna make an even further guess and suggest when you think shes gonna blow?
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
sooon......it looks to me from the pic that she's "bowl wrapping".
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
And she looks pretty "full". Have you got someone close to you from the forums who can palpate her???
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
the breeder we do alot of business with is pretty near by, but its after midnight here and he would KILL me if i brought her to him now lol... that and he might make me leave her with him and that would make me even more crazy hahaha, he did offer to incubate for us for the time being. she isnt really bowl wrapping i dont think, both our gravid females did that alot in the beginning, shes been kinda all over the place, im sure it has something to do with it being night time=active time. A few minutes ago she was on the other side leaving me nice urates lol

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Has she been laying inverted? Upside down or all twisted up. With all my females this year and last. When I catch them laying inverted or all twisted up. Within seven to ten days they lay their eggs. Not one of my females has went over ten days past, the first day I noticed her laying inverted.
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
no i have not seen her laying inverted which is good. thanks for your help!
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
I wouldn't mess with her to much she will probably lay in the next 48 hrs. Grats Ashley.
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
:D I like you Emilio lol... this morning, still no eggs but we will see :gj:
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
:) Thanks Drew, of course Ill be the first one posting to let you all know what happens.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Now typically if she were gravid she would be clued to the heat and not roaming the tub, she also wouldn't be doing any bowl wrapping.
Based on the info in this thread I'd say she is likely not gravid but I would take her out and attempt to palpate her again. Once you get your hand in correct position don't be afraid to really use some pressure.
Once you get to that bottom third of the body you'll know very soon. If it takes a couple tries then do it, it won't harm her it'll just make her a little uncomfortable
Hope this helps. Good luck

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
I did palpate her and shes very lumpy, in the beginning she had nice follicles and now shes very gassy feeling and squishy with obvious breaks (spaces between eggs?) in her belly. She is not bowl wrapping, that was right after i had taken her out, its where she laid until i snapped the pic. Today shes folded in half laying away half and half, by the heat, part of her is at the front, the other half in front of the heat (back heat). She has been a bit restless, moving around her enclosure but once she finds her spot shes stayed put. I havnt noticed her doing perfect coiling like our other female has been doing... i just cant believe thats just poo in there, if she isnt gravid this is def. the biggest O i have ever seen (in life or in photos) I would love to take her tonight to let my breeder palpate her, if that isnt a risk to her i would certainly consider doing it... we will be meeting up with him either way tonight.
:) Thanks Larry for the help, i guess either way time will tell ;)

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Tough call -- seeing that you never witnessed ovulation and didn't really watch her for signs. Do you know when the last time she pooped was? Could be that she is constipated and needs a soak.
Hope it's eggs tho -- good luck!

Did you catch an ovulation? If not and thought you missed it. Maybe she building up for that. Like I said everyone of my females this year and last. Seven to ten days before eggs were laid. They all were seen laying inverted and twisted up. The laying inverted and all twisted up. Is not a sure sign that eggs are on their way. I have had males and females after a big meal lay the same way. Like I said its not a sure thing. But it does help you figure out how close they are to laying. If you have not seen any of that. Then most likely it should be ok to take her to your breeder. Every female I have within a few days of their due date. Every time I opened their tub. They were laying with their bellies pointed up. Here is a picture of one of my females about 5 days before laying.

Some times its a bit more extreme than others, but you will know it when you see it.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
thank you so much everyone... i might try soaking her tonight and see if perhaps she is a bit constipated, she just had a BM about a week and half ago though so it wasnt all that long ago. If she is gearing up for "the big O" I would be just as happy if not more so with that knowing it buys us sometime before our heat tape comes.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
no eggs yet hahaha.... we will see what happens
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Charm was laying partially inverted this morning!!! She wasnt totally upside down but she was totally showing us her belly and was twisted up a bit! I also had to clean her enclosure last night, more urates...
Arian my other girl was laying in a perfect circle coil, tail to the outside though, both girls were heat seeking for sure! I can only hope thats a good sign. Ill try to snag pictures later on today
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Oh ADEE you've got me in suspense!!!! Lay girl lay!!!!
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
When was the last time she ate? When was her last shed?
Its easy to miss ovulation.
Keep a close eye on her. 30 days after the POS is when you should expect them.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
You know after re-reading your posts I found that she has been feeding well and just ate on Wednesday -- which probably means that she is not gravid -- tho it does happen sometimes -- most females won't eat while gravid. I'm leaning more toward her being constipated than gravid. Try giving her a nice long hot soak and a gentle massage.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
im awful about the records on our personal collection (something im working on) so im not sure the last time she shed.. at least 3wks ago though... she last ate last wednesday (5dys ago) but has always been an amazing eater... shes had plenty of urates so shes not impacted... She refuses to lock up with Hazard our pastel male.. he used to lock up with her every chance he got and for the last 5-6xs we have put him in nothing happens, the same is true for my other female with not locking up.
With that, there is no way she has 500+g of feeders in there... its just not possible.

Well... I gave Charm a long warm soak followed by some massaging... so we will see what happens with that. Thanks for the suggestion of doing so :gj:

Well write that date down and keep track of the days. You might have some eggs seven to ten days from that date. Like I said I have had males, and females that were not gravid. Do it too after a big meal. About her eating last week or so. I have a female that will eat up to the week before she lays. Yeah she takes smaller than normal rats, but still eats. Id leave her alone as much as you can. Maybe just peek in once a day. Try not to bother her any more than you have to. Being all twisted up is a sign that shes moving eggs around getting them ready. (Or a big turd) I have seen it in females right before an ovulation too. So that could be whats going on too. Well good luck with her, hope everything works out for you.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
:) Thanks Ama.. as long as I get eggs from her eventually I dont care if its today or in 40 days from now :gj:

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Brat ate again today.... I soaked her and still nothing too, perhaps it was an "O" maybe we can count on eggs eventually. Our flex watt should be here tomorrow which is good, at least shes holding out for me :D

we have tried faithfully every other week to get her to eat, finally we figured she was off feed to breed and we threw our male pastel in with her.. we know shes gravid now but her eating all of a sudden seemed weird to me.. I really dont care, at this point im just glad she ate. When we first started I would hear people saying "oh my snake didnt eat for months" I honestly didnt believe it until Arian gave us a run for our money with her fasting crud.. so glad its over. We kept throwing her more and more feeders today until she stopped. :8:
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
She left us a nice big nasty poo but shes still equally as big as before... hmm. Why are these snakes so difficult?!

Be careful you dont feed her too much, that could be why she has been fasting. They will eat when they are hungry not when you necessarily want them to.;)

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
:) Thanks for the input Raul... Arian (unlike our garbage disposal Charm) had never been a good eater since weve gotten her. She ate maybe 3 meals max since we got her
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
who said the thing about runny poo??
Arian (due to lay in like 12 days according to last shed) just left us a nice gross runny/slimy poo with some urates ... i havnt been this excited about poo since my sons were born :8:

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
Do most people feed after ovulation? Ive read a few places not to, but I know everything is not always "by the book"
-
Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
she hadnt eaten in 9+ mos... i would sooner loose a clutch but mom is our priority, i hadnt read that there was a risk to her by doing so :weirdface Please correct me if im wrong so i can stop feeding our other gravid female.

Re: omg shes gonna blow (we think)
NERD book pg 90
"Do not attempt to feed a female after she has ovulated. She will not eat and the addition of a rodent t her environment will only be a source of stress."

even though both the females pounded their food before we even got it into the enclosure all the way? I mean, I know everyone does things differently but Charm our big girl would bite my fingers off if she went over 7dys without eating, shes worse then my boa on feeding day... :weirdface
Anyone else have experience with this? Do you choose not to feed even thought they are acting like they are starving? I thought having a good eater, even one that eats while gravid would be a good thing, even healthier for her... before it being a bad thing...
I would love some more input on the topic. Jeremy, thanks so much for you help!!
