What type of night light should be used ?
What kind of night should be used to watch pythons at night ?
Some people prefer to use blue (like Night Glo), others red. I would like to gather everyone's opinion to choose what's best.
Can the pythons see every colour ? I've heard that they can't see red, but I'm not sure.. If anyone knows about that, I'd like to hear he's opinion, thanks !
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
None, it's unnecessary. Just get an a Under Tank Heater or Flexwatt heat tape...too much light could stress out the snake anyway...
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
Ryan I think the OP means not as an overhead heat source but simply to view the snake's activities as night so not as to disturb it.

Oops, my bad. :P
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
I enjoy a low wat infrared lamp suspended 20 inches above my tanks.
There is nothing like waking up to the rustling of plants at 2 am...& viewing from a distance allowing them to "do their thing".
I can observe them & i find that Super rewarding.
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
i use both black and red lights.black are alot cheaper and you dont need a dimmer.the red is really bright but still causes no stress to the snake.if you buy a red light and the tank is in your room i suggest a dimmer cuz you will have a hard time sleeping
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
Red light for my BP. Its in my bedroom but the beauty of a red light is that its not intense at all so you can just close your eyes to block it out.
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
I use MoonGlo blue bulbs. Red is really bright, and hot, and black lights make the whole room glow. :) Not bad...unless it's your bedroom.
Darker is better, tho snakes can't see red or blue lights.
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
I use te purple lights but they're not black lights, they're moon glo also, they don't make anything glow. They aren't very bright, and the snake's seem quite active. I figure warmth, plus simulated moonlight can only be a plus.
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
I used a moon-glo blue for the first week or two I had my snake, but the bulb died fairly fast for some reason.
Re: What type of night light should be used ?
use a regular blacklite.simple, cheap and effective

Well someone else DID answer it today, which is why it popped up & caught my eye, as well as yours. Things have changed, sure, but it's still a relevant topic- I'm glad you responded also.

I was just poking fun at a thread from the dead.
I will add it is much easier to have one multibulb floor lamp in a snake room for a tad of getting around light than a light for each cage. My two bulbs just give off enough light that they can see a bit while exploring and I can check on them at night without disturbing the room much.
