I don't know who I pissed off
...but man...karma sucks (no not the snake). I was going to VA Beach two weeks ago and I get into a car accident that was not entirely my fault. I say not entirely because the only fault of mine was being "too close" behind the car in front of me. Well, my airbags deployed, thank goodness, and no one was seriously hurt. Just a few bruises. The bumper was smashed in but on the whole, the car was just fine. We had it towed to Richmond and that cost a pretty penny. Then we had it sit in the driveway while we started looking around for parts to fix it (airbags and front bumper). The fender and grill would come later since they were mostly just a cosmetic fix, nothing really required.
Tonight I get a text from my mother telling me to call her. I call her at 9pm right after the text. "Your sister took your car for a joy ride." she says. I really thought it was a joke. My car is legally, not drivable because of the airbags. I told her I'd be over, but I was sure it was a joke. I get over there and OMG! She is lucky I am a nice person because I really wanted to put her through a wall. She got bored this morning and instead of waiting the 2-3 weeks it would have taken me to fix my car (I had promised to take her out and teach her to drive in my car after I fixed it), she decided to take a little drive in my car. Without even a second thought, she snatched my keys and got behind the wheel. She ended up driving the darn thing right into the side of the neighbors house. Thank goodness she wasn't going very fast because there were no airbags in that car and she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. She could have gotten hurt really bad. She did no damage to the neighbors house, but tire marks in the grass will definitely alert him to the incident. She hit brick, so the only damage was done to the car.
She ripped a headlight out of my car, broke the grill further, and damaged the fender beyond repair. The little piece that goes on the fender, over your tire, you know that little awning, was found wrapped around the tire! How the heck she managed that one, I'll never know. So now we are adding more money onto what I already need to get the car fixed from a previous accident only a few weeks before. I mean, I'm glad she's not hurt, but what the heck goes through her head? I'm probably already 1k-2k in for the original damage, now this?
I'm still in shock. I don't know what to think. Not to mention, the neighbor could sue. He's a bum with no job so he's always looking for money. This is his perfect opportunity. I'm so tired of being the nice person. Because of the original accident, we were having to split one beat up old saturn between 4 people (the car is not going to live very long either) and we were hoping to only have to do this for maybe a few weeks. Now, with the damages to the car even higher, its going to be harder to fix, and I'm not sure how long its going to take.
Because my sister is only 14, she's probably going to be charged with underage driving, stealing a car, and damage to property. My mother is making her turn herself in tomorrow. She is supposed to start highschool next week. She can say goodbye to that. She might end up having to spend time in juvie.
I just really don't know what to think. I needed to rant, so here it is. I try and do nice things but it always comes back to bite me. Rah! :taz::taz:

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
wow. im sorry. i hope that everything turns out well. its good that your mom is making her own up to what she did. its tough but its a learning experience.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Wow, i wish i had an older sibling like you, if i were in your sisters position (I'm 14 as well) all that would be left of me would be a toe. Take pride in the fact that your sister's still alive. And I'm sure theres a reason why your neighbor is low on cash so don't call him a bum... actually, it's probably none of my buisness, and your pissed, so go ahead.
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Well...time to make your sister pay for what she did. I hear the corners in Richmond are pretty safe at night ;).
Just kidding, but seriously that sucks.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Actually he is a bum. He lost his job because he went to work stoned out of his mind. He has been out of a job ever since.
She is going to find ways of making money. She said she would mow lawns, rake leaves, ect to make the money to pay me back. I have to call my mom tonight and see if anything happened today as far as the neighbor.
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Your sister wont get charged with stealing or go to juvie, but she will get under age driving, which is a pretty pennie! Don't ya just love little siblings! Sorry to hear about the car though! I hope you find your horseshoe.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I want her to have some punishment for her actions. Nothing too harsh, but nothing too lenient either. She's going to work to pay off damages and then whatever the law may give her. Not to mention she's going to have to work really hard to gain my trust back.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Sorry to hear all of this, but I'm glad to hear your sisters ok. Hope everything works out in the end.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
What year, make and model is it?
My husband deals in salvaged auto parts and said that your local yards for parts that are going to be the best would be Bruce Auto Parts...Lacy Auto Parts...and Action Auto Parts.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I'm a big meanie, but if my little sister or child did that, I would press charges. But again, I'm a big meanie.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I think that your mother would be making a mistake to have your sister turn herself in unless the neighbor has called the police. And if she ran into the neighbor's house she probably isn't yet ready to learn to drive.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Its a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Not a nice car, but its my baby. When my brother gets home from Arizona (we are moving my cousin home) hopefully today, he's going to start looking for parts for me.

I agree with all this. Turning her in will only end up costing your mom money and time since your sister doesn't have a job and can't drive. It's not like they'd make her spend the night in jail to teach her a lesson. And if you smash into the car in front of you, unfortunately it is entirely your fault. Good luck getting your car fixed.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
Now that we got to see the car in the light (I went over to see my cousin) my cousin showed me the back of the car. I hadn't even thought to look at the back because I figured she'd hit the house and that was it. Nope, apparently, she tried to back up and hit a tree, denting and scratching up the back of the jeep. She also smashed a brake light.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I know I'm being way too nice to her right now. I won't really let her talk to me or come near me though. I'm mad, but I'm not a violent person. So yea, a couple thousand dollars worth of damage. If I find my camera, or find some way to get the pictures off my phone, I'll post a few pictures. Its quite amazing what a 14 year old can do to a car. I'm sure it could have been worse, but this car was my baby. Still is. I won't let them convince me to get a new car. This one is getting fixed and I will drive it again. :P

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
yeah it is amazing the amount of damage a 14 year old girl can do to a car. when i was in highschool a 14 year girl stole her brothers car and ran it through a crowd of people by mistaking the gas for the brake. it hit my little group of friends and we had 4 broken ankles between 5 people ( i was the lucky one) and another one of my friend got crushed. he broke both hips and his spine from the hips down as well as both his femurs and an ankle. after 8 months in the hospital and years of physical therapy he was eventually able to walk again.
i guess what im saying is at least no one got hurt.

I agree also, I don't know if turning herself in is the best thing. Like stated above it will probably just end up costing your mom money. I would however keep track of any additional cost and make her pay you back when she is old enough to get a job. Even if it's only a little at a time.

Reminds me of that carfax commercial with the little old lady trying to back out of the garage. ;)

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
She said she's going to start doing yard work for the neighborhood in order to pay me back. Given, she probably owes me a good 2000+, but whatever.

Agree, agree and agree. Your sister needs to know what she did is no acceptable and she needs to pay you back most definitely no matter how long it takes. It also show she's not close to being responsible enough to actually have a license. Turning her into the police would scare the crap out of her but would cost your mother a lot of money in the long run. So I would NOT suggest turning her in. I would however not allow her to get her license until she was 18 but even then if she lives in your moms house and/or drives someone else's car your mother and/or registered car owner could still be held legally responsible.
With regards to the neighbor. If there isn't any damage to his house with the exception of the lawn being torn up, I don't see him putting out the money for a lawyer to sue you. He may be the one to call the police and make a stink and you'll probably have to fix his lawn. If I were you I'd offer to fix the lawn because as the registered owner of the car you would be held responsible along side your mother.
I'm amazed that your sister would think for a second it was okay to drive your car period. I have two daughters and neither of them would have ever tried something like that. Don't get me wrong, we've had our issues but they both would have been way to afraid of what psycho-mom's punishment would have been. I think that makes me the meanie!!!
But . . .Jay_Bunny, if you think you've got bad karma you'll have bad karma. The positive is she nor anyone else was hurt. Lesson learned, unfortunately on your dime.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
She's not turning herself in. We are worried about the neighbor for now. He hasn't said anything yet. He might not even notice his lawn. He mostly stays in his house and watches t.v. Oh and in addition to the damage done to my car, she also hit my brother's car. Its a car he had worked on for a few months and was about to get it painted. Now it has a big dent and a crack in the door. The entire door has to be replaced and the painting pushed back until he can get it fixed.
I really don't think this has sunk in for her yet. My fiance is going to help me get the pictures off my phone.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I hope that your sister is remorseful about what she has done. If not, she will probably keep your mother from getting bored for the next several years.

I was thinking the same thing except bored is not the word I'd use. Teenage girls are a handful, seems like someone flips a switch on the backs of their necks at age 13.

Re: I don't know who I pissed off
omg I would be hissed too if my lil bro(just turned 15) decided to take my car for a joy ride. she is really lucky she wasn't killed... Not all stoners are bums just the stupid ones... aka "stupid stoner". Hope he isn't the kind of person you think he is. Good luck!
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
He is that kind of bum. He's a very strange individual. To each his own, I guess. I have friends that smoke pot and they are not the "stupid stoners" so I'm not one of those people who think everyone who smokes pot is dumb. This man just happens to be a "stupid stoner."
She is sorry for what she's done. We just can't figure out why she did what she did. Causing thousands of dollars of damage in one single action. We asked her why she did it and she said she didn't know. I know at 14, my most rebellious thought was "I want to get my belly button pierced." My mom told me to wait till I was 16, so out of respect of my mother, I did, and sure enough at 16, as promised, she took me out to get it done.
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
I don't know how sorry she is, if you had to discover that she also damaged the back of the car on a tree, and also hit your brother's car, without her TELLING you this. That's almost lying about it. That doesn't show one bit of remorse in my mind.
Yes, I think you were at fault for hitting the car in front of you, and the fact that your sister wrecked the car more, and damaged the neighbor's lawn(not the house?), and your brother's car is partly your mom's fault, and mostly your sister's fault.
I'd be having her do every chore around the house, while doing yardwork or cleaning for neighbors, giving you EVERY dime she gets from anything until the total amount is reached, and she wouldn't get a license even if she DID reach 18, until she paid it all back.
But I'm more of a meanie than most folks on here. I'd have dragged her down to the police station in addition.
AND made her fix the neighbor's lawn, AND apoligize to him, AND do his yardwork for a month too.
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
She hit the brick portion of his house, so no damage was done. The houses in the neighborhood tend to have a brick base.
-
Re: I don't know who I pissed off
What I don't get is why she didn't stop after you brothers car was damaged, unless that was the last thing she did. I'm 14 and so far in my life I have had the most rebellious thought of "I'm gonna leave the school grounds" It's a closed campus. Maybe she had an adrenaline rush. Does she have a friend you don't like. I did bad things (leaving school campus duing lunch hour and coming back at the) when hanging around with my friend my parents didn't like. I dunno. But wow, your a good person. As I said before if I did that, all that would be found of me would be a toe.
