Considering these things were what $75.00 a trio only a couple of years ago, I think you did just fine. Last time I bought some we paid $5.00 each but it's been awhile (I need some new bloodlines!)

Can't beat ASF's. I've yet to have any of our picky feeders turn there nose up at a nice chubby ASF. :)

I used to be a non-believer too and although we'll always (or at least for now) breed both regular rats and ASF's, I really am impressed with the ASF's and our snake's reaction to them.

I agree, though I've only had them for a few hours im liking their ability to change this one non feeder. Im going to try to get a few racks full to feed my breeders. I put the ASF in, shut the tub and BAM I heard the whole rack shake:D The rest of my snakes came out too, Ironic!

$3.20 per ASF is a good price! Would be hard to find much cheaper then that. I still charge $5.00 each for mine... but mine consist of 4 unrelated lines... So let me know when you want to freshen things up!!!

I think thats a fair price, I bought 1male and 4 females from a breeder here that charge me $25. He threw in a free male and one of the females grew some testies. So it ended up being 3 males and 3 females lol.,..

I had that happen to me, If youre looking quickly at a show or something, its understandable, but its actually REALLY easy to tell, even on young weaners so someone whos never even dealt with them before should be able to tell. Two close holes = Girl, Far apart = Boy. Grab a few babies and just look at them....:gj::D

Last thing, since I use racks, will the baby's escape through the 1/2 hardware cloth? I talked to someone and they said none have in their rack, but after reading some of the asf threads people say otherwise?

I heard you should use 1/4 mesh... I dont know though i have mine in tanks with screen lids...

I use tanks with metal screen lids too but considering the size of baby ASF's, I'd think 1/4" would be the better option.

how are you feeding the lab blocks? Bowl? Hopper? though the screen on the top of the rack?

top of the screen. Its only in one tub, the other trio is normal

I think price depends on location. Over here they usually arent as much.. My first trio I picked up for 3 bucks. The highest price is about 1.50 a piece. Sex doesnt matter. So my price usually goes around the areas pricing..

They will go through 1/2 mesh with no problem! You can put 1/4 mesh over it and be fine...... I have sexed 1000's ASF and sometimes it is easy to confuse young males from females if they are really hairy!
