Hmm why not? I thought you should use 2 hides one on each side for warm/cool.

yeah but, dont snakes like to feel like they are secure, not out in the open, etc. even though it is nice to see the snake out, it might be stressing, no? surprised you have not had any issues yet.

You neglect to add another hide because you'd rather stress it out because you like to look at it? irresponsible to me, especially in such an open glass aquarium.

Let's not turn Butters tread into an argument. One hide is fine. If the snake wants to feel secure and alone it can go in the hide provided, and when out, it's not stuck out in the open, it's got plants, wood, and substrate to help aid in that.
Anyways butter, youre setups are very visually enjoyable, and lookg great. I would kind of be worried about my BP getting stuck in that " building " lol. But very nice :D

I agree with LAWReptiles. Yes, we all know that the standing opinion for proper setup is to have a hide available at both warm and cool ends of the enclosure, but every animal is different. In my own opinion, I think that if you monitor the behavior, feeding habits, and general health of the animal, having the second hide is optional depending on those observations. That being said I currently have 26 balls, but mine are in rack systems with opaque containers that are only about 6 -7 inches deep. But when I first started I did have a couple of setups like him and only used one hide in each. The snakes that were kept in those enclosures I still have today and are my bigest animals. Never had a single health or feeding problem with them.

settle down now! He may not have 2 "official identical hides" but if you look at each of the tanks, there are places to hide on both sides in each one!

Love that tower thing. looks really nice. I am trying to find something unique like that for my livingroom display tank.

    Bubble bursting time.

Did you guys know that ball pythons can live healthily for YEARS with NO hides?

    It's been done.

    Captivity is NOT The Wild.

We don't, NONE of us, not a single arrogant mother's son of us, know what these guys really think.

Who's to say they don't hide more because there are more hides but NEVER think of hiding when there are none. Or maybe it just doesn't bother them. Maybe burrowing in substrate is enough. Maybe a piece of newspaper to crawl under is every bit as good as a termite mound.

How do we know whether it is or not?

By how successfully we keep our snakes.

They've been successfully kept without any hides at all.

    Therefore, they need no hides.

    See how easy it is.

You do it your way and your snake is fat and seem happy. I do it my way and my snake is fat and seems happy.

Why argue over who's right when it's obvious that we both are?

There is rarely ONE way to accomplish a goal.

I have given up on hides for about 1/3 of my collection completely - they just push them out of the way so they can get under their newspaper

THANK YOU!!!!! Finally:gj: We "none of us" can completly mimic the exact things these guys get in the wild. Even these "large" aquriums that people say are "too big" mine is in a 125 gl......it's not like they have small tubs in the wild....they are open, cluttered terrian!!!!

Only my babies under 100g and adult females who have *just* laid get hides. Everyone else is fine without them and eats like there's no tomorrow(might be my face, hands or the mouse dangling in front of them that I'm trying to toss in the tub).

This is true, but it also can depend on the snake. :]

If someone has a problem feeder and comes on here with questions usually the first suggestion is to get two hides for security, and it is often part of the problem.

My ball doesn't need a hide.. he goes under the newspaper anyway.. :P

Nice setups! I love that pastel.
