Once you go black...
You know the rest. ;) How can anyone not love a jet black snake?
Connie and I were down in Lansing over the weekend to meet up with Austin (ThyTempest) and his girlfriend (hope I wasn't too scary, I was a little grumpy from having to be up for work at 5:30 am). We stopped at the Lansing reptile show while we were there. Had to be the smallest show I've been to yet, only a few tables -- like 4 or 5 vendors. I can totally understand why they're discontinuing it. I really don't see the show even covering the rental expense of the room it was in. So, to make it worth the $5 admission I picked up one of these Mexican Black Kingsnakes from Collison Zoo that I keep seeing at just about every show we've gone to in the past year.

Not the MBK, but she's still black -- so a random feeding shot of Jade!

That is one nice looking kingsnake :gj:

Re: Once you go black...
Very nice little one. You'll have to tell me how you have her set up and temps and attitude... my BF wants me to get one for him. :D

Re: Once you go black...
Right now she's just in a little Critter Keeper cage on paper towel with a hide and water dish. Being that it's the middle of summer here and the days are mid 80's I haven't bothered setting up any hot spots for her. She's just hanging out on the bookshelf in the living room until quarantine is over and I can set up a nice display cage for her. Cause really, for a snake that nice looking, you just GOTTA show it off -- right? ;)

Oh most definitely. MUST show off a beauty like that. :) We're thinking of leaving Ari's MBK, "Darth", in the living room and using a 12qt tub to start with then moving up until he's ready for the 20long display tank. :D
And yes, Jade is a ham...but a very pretty one. Nice eyes.

Re: Once you go black...
WOW. If you don't mind me asking, how much was this diamond of a snake? And do you know how difficult they'd be to get? If/WHEN I get a third snake, I'd really want it to be a mexican black king... breathtaking, really. :happycry: Hows it doing?

Re: Once you go black...
I've always seen them priced at $65 at the shows around Michigan. Never really did manage to find any on kingsnake when I was looking. She's doing fine so far, but I've only had her for a couple days so far. We'll see if she'll take an ASF pink in a day or two and go from there.

Re: Once you go black...
She musked me! :puke:
Man... here I am trying to give her some crumpled paper towels and she musks me... Little booger.

Re: Once you go black...
wow, just the othey day connie was telling me how much she loves the black snake...and here she is w/ a black snake!
are these the ones that get HUGE?
-
Re: Once you go black...
No no... those are Indigos. You need a permit to own one since they are threatened/endangered. They get REALLY huge. :)
Heh...musking goes with the territory of owning colubrids...even 'sweet' ones can get snippy every now and then. Heck, I got nailed big time by my little HypoBlood corn girl the other day...what a mess! Next time I pick her up I'm putting down plastic... :D

Re: Once you go black...

Re: Once you go black...
I still can't get over how beautiful that snake is. This forum is bad news guys... Bad news... ball-pythons.net has opened my eyes to so many different species I never new existed. And now, I want them all! But I don't want to take on more than I can handle. Not fair to our cold blooded babies. In a year or so, though, I will adopt a MBK. =D

Re: Once you go black...
I vouch for the fact that the show sucked. I was just glad to get some rats from Connie. Hope the little king settles in well. As for the grumpiness....just kidding, you were fine, but sorry about working so early, that sucks.

Re: Once you go black...
I love MBKs. I want one but will I will have to simply enjoy the snakes I have for now. I saw an adult once and fell in love. Maybe next year.
Your MBK is beautiful. I just love black snakes.

Re: Once you go black...
Okay.... I know I said a year... but I just took one home today lol. It's a gorgeous MBK... and one of the calmest snakes I've found from a petstore. I'm going to take it to the vet soon, because it came from a pretty obscure pet store (I was only there because they are the only place that sells live pinkie mice). It was a rescue thing really.
The snake's name is Gypsy, and it is going to be a very nice snake.
