Pics of my IJ's
Took this last night at dinner time, Peggy Sue is on the left and Ira on the right. She's a year old and he's two, he is getting ready to shed so looks much darker than usual. Just thought I'd share :)

Re: Pics of my IJ's
Thanks! Peggy Sue is really a looker, she is very light. I'll have to get better pictures of her but it is very hard to capture her true color as the pictures always make her look brown/tanner than she really is. Ira is a dark IJ but that is what I like about him. He should be shedding pretty soon and I will take new pics of him when he does.
bonheki, when I first got Ira as a wee babe he bite me maybe 3 or 4 times and did a lot of headbutting, he was not bad at all. Peggy Sue was a terror though, she would bite 3 or 4 times every time I handled her! Good thing little snakes have little snake bites and it doesn't hurt ;) She calmed down after a while though and doesn't even think about biting anymore. It totally depends on the individual snake but most Carpets usually grow out of the bitey stage as they get older (regular handling helps too!).

What did you find was the quickest way to tame them? So far I've dodged quite a few bites from my new IJ (gave her a week to settle in) but she has latched onto my shirt a few times.

Tap her head before you pic her up

Re: Pics of my IJ's
I just let her bite me. Maybe not the smartest way to go about it but it didn't hurt and she eventually stopped. I did not put her down or back in her cage until she calmed down, I don't know what they are capable of 'learning' or not but didn't want to show her that biting worked.
I've never heard of tapping them on the head, but there is more that I don't know than do so...
Besides, Peggy Sue was an all knowing, all seeing eye when I went near her cage and if I had tried to tap her head it would have only equated to putting my finger in her mouth and making it all that much easier for her :O

Re: Pics of my IJ's
letting them bit you is the best way... and yeah, tapping them first will let them know you're there, then you can just scoop them up and they're usually cool.

so you just kinda use your finger and tap them lightly? I'll try it, my girl is still digesting her meal but next time.
