    How would I "euathnize a rat fuzzy/pup
I have a burmese who I fed a live fuzzy/pup rat. I want to see if it eats frozen so I can buy bulk. If I buy the bag and it does not then it would be a waste. So I want to buy a live one to freeze and feed it as a F/T to test him out.

It's only one. Would smacking it's head against a hard object do it?

By placing it in the freezer.

If it is 14 days old by using a CO2 chamber.

I would never just place a warm blodded animal in the freezer no matter how old they are.

Freezing is cruel, in my opinion. I use a baggie and canned air for the mice that I euthanize.

Co2ing will not effect a mouse or rat under 14 days, I believe it causes acid to form it their lungs? Freezing would be the best way to do it henceforth.

Please don't smack it! See if your local pet store or reptile store has some frozen. Even Petco sells frozen in small quantities.

I was suggesting smashing, not freezing.

    I went to the petstores.
They don't sell anything smaller then a frozen small rat.
They think any snake will eat a mouse so they have adult mice in place of rat fuzzies.

And like I said, if I buy bulk and the snake does not accept f/t then I will have 25 or so rats wasted of their lives.

    I don't want a CO2 chamber for a one time use.

Pinkies and fuzzies don't die with CO2. You have to freez them.

How do you think they pack the frozen pinkies and fuzzies that you buy at any store?

You could put a piece of dry ice in a styrofoam cooler with the rat and that will act as a CO2 chamber. Put the dry ice in a container so the rat doesn't come in contact with it directly.

Someone I know gets his dry ice from Baskin Robins ice cream store. You don't need much.

I get my dry ice from Publix. Put a small chunk of it in a bowl add water so it's like a smoke machine. I use an aquarium of differnt sizes depending on how many rats I'm doing. Cover the aquarium with a piece of wood on top with the a slight crack on one end. Thats it.

A quick smack is about as fast as it can get imo.

I breed rats and mice for a living. They only way to euthanize pinks, sf, and lf is the freezer. Trying to euthanize them is like trying to gas a snake. Impossible. They best way to get good quality frozen pinks, sf, and lf is freezing. I use Co2 for everything else. It is the quickest (if done properly) and the most humane. Smacking them is in humane and doesn't always work as quickly as most people thing. Most of the time it needs to be done multiple times to successfully kill them. If you are trying to feed frozen I suggest finding a good independent pet store and buying a couple of pre-killed frozen. Switching from live to pre-killed can take time depending on the feeding response of the snake. Just a word of warning when using Co2 pumped into a enclosed container vent it! Even if it is a pin hole. They can and will explode. Good Luck.

Neonatal rodents, up to ages 10 days are highly resistant to CO2 (as per the AVMA). It can take an awfully long time for it to effect them so it is generally accepted that freezing them is actually more humane and a quicker ending. I've done it myself and as much as I don't care for the idea of it, it does not seem to produce f/t prey that show signs of struggle or suffering (it appears quite honestly that they've just gone to sleep).
