1st time breeder, 1st time babies
Well, we are finally successful!!! This is the first year that my 12 year old son has attempted to breed balls. The pairing was nothing spectacular, but wow what a ride!!! Our 50% het albino female layed 7 fertile eggs on 6/15/08, and shortly there after, we had one egg begin to go bad. With a great deal of advice from this forum, I became brave enough to remove the moldy egg from the others in the clutch that it was attached to. Around day 45, we noted that 3 other eggs which the original bad egg was sitting on began to show signs of moisture. Finally on day 55 we made the decision to cut 2 of the eggs as we weren't able to see any movement when candleing. On day 60 one of those 2 babies emerged from it's egg, and then the fun began. All of the remaining 5 uncut eggs pipped and left their eggs by day 61. All that remained was one of the 2 eggs that we had originally cut. We had noted that the "fluid" in the egg was extremely viscous compared to the others in the clutch, and due to the fact that we had not seen a great deal of movement for a couple of days, I used forcepts to break through and remove some of the membrane at the top of the egg. Imagine our surprise the next morning when we saw not one but 2 heads pearing out at us from the egg. Twins in his very first clutch. The twins left their egg yesterday, and have quickly become our favorites!!! What an experience for my son, and he's actually sorry that the fun is over for this year, even after staring at an incubator for 63days!!!

How incredibly cool that a 12 year old not only is breeding snakes but got twins his first year up to bat! That's wonderful!

I see a big science fair project coming up here for him. There's tons of good stuff in this for him to use....breeding, egg development, genetics, etc.

Now of course, we want pics!

I apologize for the delays in pics... Unfortunately, my 12 year old is further advanced in his "science projects" than his mom... I just got the pics developed,(I know, it's still 35mm) so I need to scan them in. I have only been able to figure out how to get these scanned images into my gallery on this site, and not into the actual forum.... I promise I will work hard at it over the next day or two.... I must say, I just can't get over how incredibly cute the tiny twins are... I'm truly in love as is my son... Sell these is going to be a true trial for him.

Ok, so I was able to upload the pics into my gallery, but when I linked them into the forum, they became thumbnail size. To see the pics larger, you may need to go to my gallery to view them....

One of the easier ways of posting pics is to use a free photobucket.com account. Then you can make folders on your photobucket account for different things (snakes, family, etc.) make it a private account or public account and all you have to do once you upload your photos into photobucket is simply cut and paste the IMG tag into your forum posts here (or into emails to family and friends, etc.). Photobucket is great!

Another handy and free tool is Faststone Image Viewer 3.5 This free and very easy to use program lets you resize, crop, add watermarks to photo's, etc. It's very easy to use - if I can run it basically a well trained monkey can LOL. You just resize, crop or do whatever to your pictures, toss them into your online photobucket account, cut and paste the IMG tag here and there you go. It sounds complicated, it really isn't.

    Here's the links for both....

Congrats to your son! I'm starting kinda late in the game. I'll almost be 22 when my 1st eggs hatch (if all goes well)
