breeding mice in same room as snake?
is it ok if i breed mice in the same room as my snake, just wanted to know if anyone else does or has. id love the opinions so post what you know about it. also this could go in the feeder room but wasnt sure and thought that this would be better in the long run.

i don't see any problems besides a increased feeding response from your snakes due to the mice smell that will be around

I have always done it no choice. But I have seen other peoples snakes get very excited when they bring rats into the room. Mine just seem to be more relaxed. Maybe they are just used to it.

Wouldn't want my guys smelling mice all the time. Might increase aggression when trying to handle them and could decrease feeding responses.

Ever since I started breeding asf's in the same room as my snake the snakes havnt missed a meal. None of them have struck at me and everything seems fine.

I've done it before and now that I get my rodents from a local guy, generally get enough for two feedings and feed my first, then keep the second in the room until their next feedings. All of my snakes eat every week, and generally snatch up the rodent the second it hits the floor. The only thing I have noticed is whenever I open the tub they are immediately in "feed mode" but as long as I pull their tubs completely out of the rack before trying to remove them if they're like that then they're fine.

My rats, mice and ASFs are about ten feet from my racks... no problems at all.

I walk past the rodents while handling... when I feed I put the feeder tub in front of the rack, go pour a coffee and by the time I come back everyone is lurking and ready to eat.

I think it is all relative to what they are used to. A rat 10 feet away all the time is normal, then a rat 12 inches away means feeding time.

I have mice breeding in the snake room. Only problem I have had is forgetting to wash my hands after messing with the mice. I had a baby wrap my finger cause she thought I was food. LOL....

It was not a defenseive strike, believe me. She got me good and did not want to let go... ;)

I choose not to do it, but if space limitations required it, I would have to. :)

We've always had our rat colonies right in the same room as the ball pythons. Can't say it's ever caused any real problems other than trying to remember to not touch a rat and forget to wash up before going to deal with a snake. Other than that we've had the occasional time when we've had a bp out and without thinking walked very close to a rat bin. Tends to make the snake perk right up LOL.

I breed rats in my snake room.. the only consideration is that rats don't breed well at higher temperatures.. but I am not having any issues... I handle rats then snakes all the time with no bites.. but I can tell when a snake is looking at me as food and i close the tub..

we have a breeding colony of ASFs on our snake room. well in the closet of our snake room and now all of our snakes seem really aggressive and hungry all the time. my better half keeps getting bit everytime we go to feed our BPs, and i just got bit 2 days ago by my little KSBs. (and they used to be the nicest little worms) were talking about relocating the ASFs somewhere else and hoping they settle down.

Everyone always has great advice! I would like to have my rats and snakes in the same room because it's a fairly constant temp in there.
