Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Well, for those of you flying in from out of town, you will want to keep an eye on the weather. Tropical storms at this point in the game are very difficult to predict. Right now they are predicting the storm will be passing well west of Daytona on Wed afternoon.... but truth be told, everything they are predicing now can and probably will change many times over the weekend. No reason to panic, just keep an eye on it, especialy if you are flying in early. The current prediction will cause cancled flights and delays on WED, and that would make Thursay a delayed, frantic "catch up day" Friday would probably be back to normal flight wise.

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I think it was Hurricane Charlie that came through one Daytona year and they still held the show! :D
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Oh, they won't cancel the show for this one!!!! But it is supposed to start raining tommorow afternoon, and rain every day for a week... so flooding is going to be a problem. I think this if anything will only effect the people trying to fly in early.... and the people counting on sunshine.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I need just a "little bit" of sunshine on Thursday - so we can take Diamond down to the park at the end of the beach and let her play in the ocean!
So, it's supposed to rain every day? That will put a damper on back porch festivities at the Hilton.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Yeah, but usually in August it is just afternoon thunderstorms that clear up at night.
Not sure if this will work but here is a link to what the weather channel says about daytona beach over the next 10 days...

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Yep.........it was Hurricane Charlie at the 04 Daytona show. It was supposed to hit us directly in pinellas county but then it changed at literally the last minute and went south of us so we were lucky. That was on thursday I think.........?? Then it pretty much took I4 up through Orlando and out at Daytona on Friday. If you travel I4 much, you can still see the trees that were blown sideways. Don't get me wrong, I'm a house owner myself and do not enjoy seeing destruction to peoples properly and lives, but to me.....hurricanes and tropical storms are fun times. If you didn't grow up in florida then its probably hard to understand but usually its about a week of talking about it and watching the news, and everyone is scrambling around at Walmart and Home Depot while it looks like its going to rain Hell outside. Then the Storm either comes and its not what it was supposed to be (alot weaker by then) or it shifts and completely misses. Thats the hard thing about the storms. They have all of these "models" on the radar, but they are still very difficult to predict.
I guess I enjoy it cause' I never got snow days and always just wanted an excuse to miss school or work.........! Anyways, like I said.......I don't enjoy seeing destruction, so everyone be safe and take the necessary precautions.....yadda,yadda,.......

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
LOL, well the latest update shows it a lot more east.... still hitting WED... but this forecast shows much higher winds hitting daytona....
You figure about this time in the scheme of things, the weather man would know what the helll he is talking about....

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Thanks for posting this... I was going to do it here in a few if i hadnt found your post. Here in South East Florida (ft. lauderdale area) were ALWAYS in the "cone of error (ahem, death as we say haha) The updates are looking favorable for missing us locally and hitting the west coast but its still a PITA to have a storm out there. I have often found it interesting how unaware tourists are about the storms. I know they have already declared a state of emergency for the state and are evacuating the keys starting tomorrow, that was part of the 5pm advisory. www.wsvn.com is our local station reporting on the storm... that website gives the projected paths as well as the info not stated on the website previously shared...which btw is a great website. i hadnt seen it before. :gj:
Im hoping they dont cancel the daytona show!! This is our first year going!
Be safe fellow floridians

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
They won't cancel the show. Charlie blew through in 2004 on Thursday or Friday I think and the show doors opened on time on Saturday.
Karl and I are SOOOOO looking forward to driving down from Atlanta Wednesday night/Thursday morning through this thing! :rolleye2:
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Also, the projected path and strength shows it as hitting Florida as a Cat 1 hurricane. By the time it reaches central Florida, I bet it won't even be considered a hurricane.

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I thought it was headed towards the Gulf?
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I'll be driving out Thursday morning. Hopefully it will have passed by then and not affect the drive too much...but I'm not holding my breath.

They've got three different tracts projected.

*Prays that it comes up the gulf and to texas!*
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
they never really know until its practically on top of us... were in southeast florida and under a tropical storm watch (36hrs) until it hits the warm water after cuba and has a chance to get in open seas will we have a better idea of what the intensity is going to be... as for projected path, there are always about 8 different paths it *could* take... lets just hope it doesnt linger around, TS or hurricane, pain in the butt to drive in!!
Be safe to those of you who are traveling early for the expo!

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Ugh. As if I needed *another* reason to dislike flying! :O

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
That sucks. I'm flying in Wenesday and staying for a week for a nice sunny vacation. :taz: Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
The skies are finally dark here in "Sunny" South Florida. :P I have to admit that I'm excited about it, too. :giggle: I've lived here all my life and I love the mad crazy scramble for supplies and everyone huddling in their homes with candles lit and playing board games and stuff. Of course I also love it when there's a mad scramble for supplies and then it only drizzles. ;) I won't be driving up until Friday afternoon (just in time for the blood symposium) so I shouldn't have too many issues. I hope everyone else has a safe trip, though.

As sick as it sounds we too find it oddly exciting when there is a storm approaching, of course not when its a cat 3+ but these are kinda fun, gives everyone a bit of adrenaline. Ive lived down here my whole life too, even braved Andrew :gj: Where in S. Fla are you? Im in Plantation
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Now it has slowed down, and moved further east.... Still no effect on the show, other than those flying in Wed night / Thursday morning.... and those driving south!

I'm in Boca actually. It sucks because I despise city life, but I'm here for school.

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Hurricane Charlie didn't ruin Daytona in 04 - doubt Tropical Storm Fay will this year.
Just be safe everyone! :gj:

On a serious note...for those of us driving in from the north, I wonder what kind of problems we will have on I-95 getting through?

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.

I don't know how easy it would be for you to get on I 75 to go through Florida, but if you can, you can take 75 down to exit 352 in Ocala and turn left, take that (Fl 40 I believe) about 70 miles and you will come up on 95 south, 7 miles from Daytona, that is what I am doing in hopes of going around the storm, we'll see, I'll be testing it in a few hours, haha.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
:D the storm was just making sure we all had a clear view of where it was ;)
on a serious note, west palm beach among other places had ALOT of flooding.. i hope this darn storm gets on its way soon.. seems like its been hanging around forever!
Nate it does look like Orlando is getting a pounding.. as for daytona i bet its clear skies as of that photo lol. as the eye goes by eeek!

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
omg.. to all of you out there complaining about the distance, think about the member whos coming all the way from Thailand! thats crazy!!! Have a great time in Sunny South Florida... the nice weather should stick around for us down here
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
It's sitting on my doorstep. Windy as heck, and I'm losing money, since the shop being closed for the storm means NO pay.
Grr.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
the real storm is really hitting Jacksonville now... big time rain and wind. our new Jacksonville peer has lost a lot of its deck pannels... neighbors fence just blew down. Everything is flooding pretty quick... roads will be trashed by tommorow. If this keeps up as long as they think it is going to, we are going to be totally flooded.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Their predictions NEVER pan out the way they are suppose to. Last time I checked the storm was stationary and was getting stronger. Also there has been record amounts of rain fall there as well. And lots of flooding, some hotels flooded in.
Their latest prediction though says that the storm will be in the Gulf by Saturday, which is good, but as said before they are never for sure.
I think the show is still going to happen, the hurricanes in 04 were much worst.

Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I just called the Daytona Hilton because we will be taking the redeye tonight into Orlando. First of all the guy I spoke to had the personality of rock so when I asked how the weather was he acted like I was crazy for asking. After explaining to him that the news in CA made it look like Florida was underwater he finally understood why I was calling and said the Hilton was fine and they didn't get much rain.
So, that is good news. Isn't it?
I hate flying :please:
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Speaking from a little experience with tropical systems (Having always lived near a coast such as Fla Panhandle, Carribean etc..)This will pretty much blow over and only give us rain and wind in this area. I wouldn't be too concerned with it, its not a bad tropical starm at all, just alot of water to deal with, I will traveling to daytona on Sat. Morn rain or shine! though it will probably be rain LOL. I dont see anything that will affect the show. Just My $0.02 on the matter.
And yes that is a good thing.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Honestly, I'm not so much worried about the show being cancelled Sat as I am having to drive through all the mess for 8 hrs on Friday. Ugh. But I'm sure it will be worth it. Just pray I don't slide off the road.
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Laurie.. as for flying, if it wasnt safe the planes wouldnt get off the ground, thats the good news :D
Im hoping everything goes off with a hitch, were making the drive Saturday morning, of course were not coming all the way from CA but we are going to be making a 5+hr drive :gj: Fly safe!
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
Already lost one today, drowning in Daytona. If you go out in the ocean be careful of the rip currents!
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
I had to drive through on the way TO and the way FROM Daytona. :ohmgod: And now, we'll be pelted by rain at home. UGH!!!!
-
Re: Daytona show... Keep an eye on Tropical Storm Fay.
