    NOOB Here
Hi... I'm Fred and I'm buying myself a regular male Ball Python for my 21st which is this month. I figured I should introduce myself.

Any advice will be a ppreciated. I've been doing alot of reading and reasearch about ball pythons so I know what's needed.

I am getting my python from RCReptiles.com, I figured it's the Closest breeder to NY that i could find, any opinions on Ron and RCReptiles.com?

Pick up a bit of reading on this caresheet.
Everything in it is important and should be followed as exact as possible! :]

    Good luck and welcome!

When you say NY I hope you don't mean NYC... NYC has a lot of laws against snakes, even pythons. :[

LOL... no I live in upper Westechester.

Thanks for the care sheet link. I can't decide between aspen, coconut husk(eco-earth), or cypress (zoo med forest floor betting). Any idea on what would be ideal?

    Hi,

Make sure to have the tank set up and running for a week before hand to give you plenty of time to tweak and adjust. :gj:

That way as soon as he arrives everything is perfect and you can leave him to settle in for the first week without worrying things arent right. :)

Good man... tubs are good. Nice to let him/her acclimate. Although. And that month gives you a chance to get the temps and humidity level in your viv.

Vivs are harder to maintain then tubs, so nice to see you taking the time to get it on track before the snake goes into it.

If you're using a tub, then newspaper is a great bedding till you move him/her.

Easy to clean, minimal disruption to the snake during acclimation, probably what it is being kept on by the breeder already, and it lets you monitor urination and defecation quite easily.

    Bruce

Welcome. BPs are the best. We all started with one at some point. :)

Any recommendations for heat pads? I figure I'm gonna go with something small 3-5 watts. I was thinking about the t-rex cobra mini or hagen exo terra desert heater... the exo terra is $3 cheaper.

Just to clarify this, we really don't mind you linking to products or stores as long as you use a link not one of the images on their site. :)

Flexwatt heat tape from Reptile Basics will get it done for you. Make sure you get a good thermostat as well to control the temps. Good luck and welcome!
