Baby Wats!! (THUD)
Here's another litter of cuties! Anyone care to chime in and correct me if im wrong with my color/markings guesses and also help me with a couple mystery colors LOL.
the first 2 pics, I think they are THUD warning worthy. they were out cold on my hand, they looked tooooo cute, so we HAD to snap some pics while they were layin like that! :)

heres a veiw of them from the top.

My guesses for the girls are as follows... Theres a self beige, hooded beige, a self black and a much lighter colored self. not sure what color she is?
and here's a vew of the boys :)

For the boys.. (the grey boys im guessing are minks again?) 1 self mink, 1 irish mink, 1 irish black, 2 blacks w/ a lil white on a couple of their paws, 2 hooded (broken hooded?) beiges and a mystery light hooded (broken hooded?)
And this last pic was taken outside so I didn't have to use a flash, tho its kinda cloudy, so it's not the greatest.. but hopefully it will show the colors a lil better, as to me , it looks like the flash changes their colors a lil bit.

PS
Fivel's chillin on my shoulder, he says hello!!

Re: Baby Wats!! (THUD)
Definitely see blue, black, beige. I wouldnt have any idea when they are that young what the other two are, but I'm leaning towards albino for the light female.
The light male... I'm not sure.

Re: Baby Wats!! (THUD)
Those first two pictures are just SO adorable, it makes me smile! :D

but the light female is the same color as the lighter hooded male. shes definitely not white, she looks beige-ie/silvery/greyish (new word right there "beige-ie" lol)
so the grey ones that I thought were minks are blues? I woulda thought minks because they are the same color as fivel. And thats what a couple ppl said he was, a mink.. Hmm im all confused LOL.
heres a pic of fivel w/ one of the grey colored babies, i JUST took it lol. Fivel now has a ripped ear, thanks to his mother.

Re: Baby Wats!! (THUD)
I'm glad I'm not the only one that (even though they're still food) finds rat babies that cute. Our ASFs just had a huge litter and a few of them are getting kept instead of fed off. And those first two pics are just adorable.

Re: Baby Wats!! (THUD)
Beautiful bunch you have there. You should send some of those babies my way. :D
I'm going with Champagne on that light hooded girl.

I was thinking champagne for the boy, but I have never had any so wasn't too sure... Good guess Crissy. I suppose if the girl is the same color, there ya go!
Fival is a russian blue. Definitely, I DO have a bunch of them running around! lol
Here is a pic of a bunch of girls, the russian blue dumbo is next to the agouti hooded and black girl.

I was thinking champagne or blue beige. its hard to tell what colors they are because one site shows one color and another site shows the same color with a different name lol
and if you lived close enough I'd hook ya up with some :)

yeah we're the same way! the super cute n friendly ones dont get fed off. they are kept as pets n breeders or they go to the pet stores as PETS.

i had a lil chuckle @ the albino (? cant see her face so excuse me if im wrong) sniffin the beige and the beige sniffin the black (capped?) one. She is cute!! Love that spot on her head!! Mine always produce hoodeds, irishes and selfs. never anything like that.. wanna trade a few? LOL
I have never had any blue rats or dumbos before, so you can imagine how excited I was when I finally got some! then was a little disappointed because I thought he was a mink. Now im super excited again.
i'd really love to produce some sky blues! as for markings id like some variegated and some dalmatians. hard to find good quality rats around here tho and from the looks of it so far, mine wont produce anything like that. Im gonna keep mixing and matching, maybe something different will pop up. My mice produce some awesome markings tho :)

Re: Baby Wats!! (THUD)
Head patterns are a no no. They have a high chance of getting megacolon,(link to article) and that is NOT at all something you want to breed rats with!! High white rats should be avoided.
My girl with the head marking has never been bred, and never will be. She is purely a play/pet rat. I also have a few blazed animals I keep around as pet ONLY.
There are markings you need to be aware of because of the genetic diseases associated with them.

What patterns to avoid :
Notched Capped
Baldies/essex (white spots on head, often looks like a bald spot)
Blazes or badger (white from nose and spread up to the ears)
Odd-eyed rats, often with blazes (one red eye, one black eye, sometimes the red eye looks black unless light shined into)
Lightning marks on face or split caps (split cap looks like a capped rat, but their is a line going through the middle of the head)
Black eyed white rats
Banded/husky/roan rats (looks like a high sided berkshire, a long band of color down back of animal)
High white rats (rats with irregular patches of color, can be combined with any before stated markings, )
Colors to avoid:
English blues from pets store: often weak immune systems, prone to many problems and die young. (buy from established breeder)
Merle and pearl: Pearl is homozygous lethal and can accompany merle.
Coats:

I understand. The animals I have that are high white were bought before I knew about patterns and their role with megacolon, or bred before I really had a strong understanding of it. I happened to breed one of my blazed girls, and kept a gorgeous russian blue blazed husky boy, and 2 blazed girls.
I really enjoy keeping rats as pets, and most likely will always have a group of just pet ratties around. (I think I'm up to 7 or so now :)) So I can keep high white patterns I particularly like on the pet side. ;)
