I have a pet store female that has some chocolate like qualities and has proven genetic but I'm not sure she is a chocolate. From what I've been able to gather they belly isn't right (mine is mostly clear and I understand chocolates have dark mottled areas). We are calling this line Garcia after Dan Garcia who got that pet store female to finally breed on a loan last year and produce half babies like her to prove genetic.

So hopefully someone else can post confirmed chocolate combos but here is a Mojave Garcia from this year's breeding loan with Marshall Van Thorre. Just before her 2nd shed I started to notice a nice dark chocolate color to her sides so when she finishes this shed I'll take some new pictures and post them.

Could be but I'm getting more confident she is the combo. In addition to the increased black pattern that runs in the Garcia line I thought the extreme white checking on the lower half of the sides was not typical for straight Mojave. But once she started developing the dark chocolate color (after this picture that was taken immediately post 1st shed) that her sister and mom have I was pretty sure. I'll get a new picture up in a couple days after her 2nd shed is finished. Just wish I had a male I thought was the combo.

For now here is a picture of mom and big sis that turned out a little higher yellow that it should so you don't see the dark mahogany color so well (mostly on the younger animal).

For my money -- that's a combo Randy.:) The dark is DARK!!! Also. the yellow on the dorsal really pops. Great contrast. I don't think your base morphs are Chocolate based on the ones I have seen. Keep us posted on how the project unfolds. I like the snake a lot!!!

Thanks. The picture of the hopefully combo snake are pretty right on for how she looked right after first shed. But she was shifting to really dark brown on the sides going into her second shed so I can't wait to see her in a few days after shedding and will post pictures (sorry for those not interested, typical dad here). But the colors are pretty bad in the pic of the mom and last year baby (who is also in shed right now). While dark the yearling really is more dark brown and less yellow. I might try a picture of all three together after the sheds. Or maybe because of the size difference just the 07 and the 08.

    Yes Superballs.

And thanks Joe. I've seen some weird Mojave pictures lately so hard to know what is within normal for them. I just wish I had a male I knew for sure had whatever this new Garcia gene is.

Now someone post some for sure chocolate combos.

I hope he does turn out to be a sable for you but I just couldn't be sure and the thread where I was starting to get some feedback on kingsnake got deleted.

He has been eating live adult (small adult) mice. I don't breed my own (yet, picked up some ASF's at the show) so have been at the mercy of what I can buy. I normally would start out with hopper mice but couldn't get them and fortunately all my hatchlings this year have been big enough to take adult mice for first meals. You saw his mom who is a beast with a burm feeding response so I bet he'll eat anything you want him to. I saw a cotton tail on my way out of the office today and immediately thought of mom “she could eat that”.

Sorry to take so long but here at last is the post 2nd shed pic with the girl I believe is a Garcia (which might be chocolate related) and Mojave combo in the lower left. The lower right is her brother that looks more like a Mojave only but I'm holding out a little hope with his high white sides although he doesn't have the dark chocolate color on the sides his sisters has (but doesn't photo well). The big girl in the midle is thier half sister from 07 that I believe is Garcia only.

    Re: chocolates!!!!!!
I had hoped the original pet store mom (what I'm now calling Garcia morph) was something like a phantom but when she produced the above posted combo with mojave (same snake as the left one in the picture I posted a couple posts up) rather than a white snake I decided she wasn't a phantom. I guess I'd still like to see a mojave X phantom breeding to be sure but would expect the mojave\\phantom would be a white snake like the lesser\\phantom. With RDR not owning any mojave last I heard and hardly anyone else owning phantom it might be a while before we see that cross.

I've also been told the Garcia morph looks a lot like chocolate (I think burgundy is something different, right?) but my original female has a pretty much white belly. Her 07 chocolate daughter in the middle of the picture I posted above does have a little belly dark but not as much as I've seen in proven line chocolate pictures (I think both BHB and the Bell's each have their own chocolate lines, not sure but suspect everyone that has an official chocolate came from one of those two lines). I just wish I had a for sure Garcia male to find out what the homozygous looks like as that might answer some questions as to what existing morphs it might be like or dislike.

And Masta, I think you can normally upload pictures to the Gallery on this site but both links seem to be broken right now (perhaps something to do with he move).
