Love Bite or Blood Bite

And its not the Blood Bite :colbert:

Managed to grab a couple of pics from a feeding response bit from one of my bloods a 4ft 20Ib female aptly named Jaws.:D

Bare in mind this was completely my own fault having a lapse in concentration, I had fed her a jumbo rat an hour before this she was in a feeding box I sometimes use when I am cleaning out her tank. I had visitors and was retrieving her to put back in her tank, lifted the lid while idly chatting away when out of the gap she shot out and latched on. She was still on the lookout for food obviously and I was it lol

In over 20 years keeping snakes I have bitten maybe 3 times and always by a baby as they are very quick and sometimes nippy.

excuse the poor quality it was taken by me in between cleaning up the blood :( but at least I thought instantly of my fellow herping pals on here :gj:

and for anyone wondering was it sore , :rolleye2: YES it felt like someone punched me hard on the arm but with teeth on their knuckles and I train in MMA and Boxing hehe

the subsequent bruising was pretty huge as well, I should have taken another few pics as well as my arm was swollen like I had rolled a golf ball under my skin.

Anyway thought I would share my moment of DUMBNESS with you all even people with lots of experience can get bitten and I pride myself on reading my snakes but one lapse is all it takes folks :oops:

Dang! I don't want to get in the cross fire from my little girl, I couldn't even imagine the hit from a 20 lb girl. Woooeee....

Where did that part above it come from? It almost looks like a hole wound of some sort? O.o

I bet that felt amazing. The swelling is what always amazes me, and the looks you get from people if you have a big bite mark on your arm, lol.

lol aye that was the 2nd clamp down but my finger was inside by then just gently lifting the top jaw whilst swearing and cursing through clenched teeth :D She got me again with the larger teeth and did puncture quite deep, I k new this as the blood hit the wall.

ncbloods: yeah the looks you get and sheer horror on their face is priceless when you tell them it was a snake that bit you. lol "dont they have just 2 teeth" is the usual query..... ehh no they have 100 or more then the look of horror turns to disbelief :O

My arm turned a nice shade of black purple and yellow it was rather interesting for me if I am honest lol

NICE!! Looks like you have a little hematoma going on there. Always fun when the big ones get ahold of you - sounds like you handled it well. :D :gj:

aye Kara the best thing is always to remain calm isn't it, I knew instantly what was going on and why I just wanted to be careful and minimise the injury.

She tried all through her 1st year from a hatchling to get me and I have her well handled now so I think she has achieved one of her goals anyway lol

Ive been getting struck at by me female. I went and got some welding gloves. I DONT wanna get bit!

My male is up to 9.5 pounds. And id hate to get hit by him. Let alone a 20 pounder! Like Kara said it looks like you handled it well.

Have any recent pics of that girl? My male is like 4.5 feet and 9.5lbs like i said. And he seems huge! I couldnt imagine what another 10 pounds would look like.

Kara's beefcake borneo when she got it was right at about 28 pounds. I think she said she laid a nice clutch and is at about 19 pounds now. So yeah, they can get big.

yes she is a big lady the female and catching up on the older male who is larger.

They are a very powerful snake as well as having a very sore bite :D

I still love em though and I handled mine as soon as I patched my arm up. Back on the horse so to speak.;)

Ive been nicked. By my female. She had a bout a little while ago where she was real snappy.

I was always able to move away before she could get me. But once I had to pick her up to put her back in her cage. I knew she was angry, so i tried controlling her head. She was able to reach around and nip me, just one tooth.

But it bled. Haha
