Where to get one
I have a bit of a problem. Last year I decided that I wanted a red-tail boa, so i did my research and took care of everything that i needed too. I have even already built a cage for it. The problem is that I forgot that boas and pythons are not "permitted" in the city. If anybody knows a place where I can pick one up I would greatly appreciate the help.

Re: Where to get one

Re: Where to get one
time to move to a nicer place!
sorry to hear of your dilemma.....
what exacly is the language of the ban? if it's in terms of species or length, there may be legal alternatives that may fulfill your dreams.
If you can post the law here we can probably help!

Re: Where to get one
Looks like about the only thing you can keep is a corn snake. They are banning at the FAMILY level...

Well, not being able to keep a boa isn't really reason enough to move, but believe me, I was actually thinking about it, haha. Thanks for posting the law norm, saved me alot of time. It would appear as if I will have to make due with my cornsakes, lol.

You know, that's such a simple solution and it never even crossed my mind, lol. Thanks so much, I never would have thought of that, I was thinking too locally.

Tell them it's a corn snake, I would love to meet the person that you could pull that one on, ha.

Re: Where to get one
I am sorry but I have to voice my opinion.. and I know that it is just an opinion however its something I feel strongly about.
Doing things like this, and getting caught only gives our government more reason to step in a regulate our hobby.
Its always best to follow the laws whether you agree with them or not. In the long run, the more people that do just drive over the border to another state and return with something they aren't supposed to have, effects all of us who do abide by the law. Then in return we have to deal with the consequences of others actions.

You know, I expected someone to say this but I expected it to be written sooner. As you know, your opinion is definitely valued on this website, but unfortunately, and I don't mean to be rude, everyone has a different one. I never considered the chance that this might have an effect on others because I know the chances of me getting caught are slim. The people that would know that i have one would not care and anyone that would care would not know. Now that you have brought it to my attention though, perhapes I will have to give alittle more thought to this.

Unfortunately this is true. As far as I know, I can't find any laws against snakes in Illinois. I'm glad for it, but breaking the law isn't the best idea.

Re: Where to get one
Hello,
I think some of the posters in this thread need to go back and read the rules of the site.
Specifically this one;

I realise how frustrating these laws can be but unfortunately that doesn't change the fact they exist. :(

Thats the thing though, people have been caught, and that's why these laws exist, to prevent problems. Most laws have good reason to exist and if you are caught, it could be loads of trouble for them individually as well as people who are responsible enough to abide by the rules.
It's bothered me my whole life, that I have to be held back for things like curfew and such even though I've always been very against things like drugs and violence, and people who get away with things in my town. Ugh..bah.

No offense taken, I realize that everyone views things differently. I just had to bring it up, not to come down on you personally.
Most people don't think about the overall outcome. One person may get away with it, but for that one person how many get caught?
That is what creates the problem, is one person brings negativity into the herp world, it comes down on all of us.
Its up to the entire herp community to act responsible and follow herps laws as a whole, in order to keep this hobby.

Sorry, I guess I just forgot that. I have waited a long time to get the snake, I guess I can wait another four years until I move again. Thanks for all of your posts and for forcing me to realize just how much of a mistake I was about to make.
