Human heating pads are not designed to run 24/7 – 365 days

Can you use a Zoomed heat pad with a dimmer or Tstat?

You can the only thing with Zoomed is that they stick to your enclosure (not practical when you want to fully clean it)

yes, but you want to make sure you have a decent tstat so you dont end up melting the tub or something.

So the t-rex and ultratherm heat mats are more reliable than the zoo med one? If i were to just the heat tape, how much of it would i need and where would i place it on the tub?

I use the Zoo-med UTHs on a thermostat... As a general guideline, you want to have about 1/3 of the bottom of the tub covered. You want that 1/3 to be on one end of the tub so you can offer a heat gradient from the warm side to cool side.

Oh, and as far as the adhesive, you can use foil tape to mount the UTH to the tub rather than peeling the cover and using the adhesive on the UTH. By using the foil tape, you can easily remove and reuse the UTH without risk of damaging it.

Ive done it before for quarantine, about 5 or 6 months on a helix. Didnt have any problems.

You can apply flexxwatt to a strip of sheetmetal and lay the tub on that. On my Freedom breeder rack all the heat tape is on sheet metal strips that are velcroed on the metal frame and the tub slides on the sheet metal(with flexxwatt facing down) and the metal conducts the heat great. I would have a space under the heat tape so there is a littlle air gap under the tape with the tub resting right on the metal on top.

And of course a good t-stat

That is one cool idea, Raul. Metal would be awesome at spreading the heat.

For single tubs, I just use a ZooMed UTH and thermostat. As was said, use foil tape to attach the pad to the underside of the tub and make sure the tub is lifted on little feet for air flow.

Re: What do you use to heat a single Tub?
Just FWIW, I used a longer human heating pad(no shutoff) for my boa's tub for a little while when I didn't have any extra flexwatt. The pad developed a hot spot and turned the carpet below that area a greenish color, and turned the pad light brown in that spot.

I immediately cut the cord off of it and threw it away. It was on a dimmer also, at the lowest possible setting.

so i decided to buy a helix tstat and some 4 inch heat tape. so a few more questions. Where do i put the heat tape at in on the tub and how much do i need to use to get the proper temp?
