my lil cutie

Boy was i surprised when I got dumbos! I had no idea the parents even carried the gene.

Here is a cute lil one I will be keeping as a breeder, his name is Fivel :) Not sure what color he'd be considered.. Anyone know?

Almost looks like a Russian Blue. Do you have an overhead picture of him?

The lightness on his nose makes me think he may molt into a siamese, would this be possible based on the parents?

No. Blues don't turn into Siamese. There are Russian Blue Pointed Siamese, but their base color isn't Blue. Looks like he is just lightening, which is normal for American Blues. I would have a better chance of identifying the color with a body shot. :)

I'm guessing he's either Russian Blue or American Blue. Either way, there should have been a thud warning on this post! So Cute!

Whoa, in the first picture, he looked Blue.

He isn't though, he is a very pretty little mink. His siblings are little dolls too, very nice looking litter.

A Thud warning is like an extreme cuteness warning. You know, so cute you fell off your chair, hit the desk, etc. :D

He's a Mink Dumbo and really cute. I'm finding my Dumbo eared rats tend to be the nicest natured rats I've ever raised. No idea why but they just tend to be quite calm right from the get go.

I have an adult female Mink Dumbo named Dee who, though done her productive breeding life, now spends her days socializing our future breeding stock. We call it Dee's Finishing School. :D

thanks everyone with your help identifying Fivels color. I always just see them as gray, dark gray, light gray, beige, light beige and well you know.. I'm still super excited over the dumbos! I've always wanted one and could never find any around here. And come to find out I apparently have 2 HET breeders... WOOHOO!!

Now for another question, what color females would you breed him with? If i bred him to a light girl, would that give me blues or lilacs? Or are these genes completely different?

Every time I get a new litter, it's like Christmas for me lol.. I never know what colors/patterns I will get!

I love my snakes and I love my rats & mice.. Strange mix I know lol

Mink x Agouti has Cinnamon.

With Platinums you need two copies of the blue gene, and two copies of the mink gene and there is a modifier to lighten the eyes and colour further.

With Dove you need the Russian blue gene, and two copies of the mink gene.

With Lilac you need two copies of the chocolate gene, two copies of the blue gene, and one copy of the red eye dilute gene.

With QuikSilvers you need two copies of the blue gene, and two copies of the mink gene. Similar to the Platinums with out the platinum modifier.

Hmm.. I dont know what genes my rats carry tho :(

I want an american blue and russian silver so bad! maybe if I keep breeding something will pop up eventually. Prolly not but no matter it's still fun breeding these lil cuties no matter what the colors :)
