I picked up an interesting BP today
This is a cool little male I brought home today. Eats like a horse. Anyway, he has a cool "star" pattern on the head, some interesting belly markings, flames, and a bunch of white on the back, which I initially though was just a "rub". Upon closer inspection, the white isn't "scale damage", but looks to be coloration. Still, I'll reserve judgement until after a few sheds.

Anyway, I would LOVE to hear what you guys think of this little guy. Any thoughts about genetics on it, or if you think it's just a cool "normal", etc....

    Thanks :)

That white, at least in your pictures, doesn't appear to be natural white but some sort of healing injury. Any chance of clearer pictures of that area?

Doesn't appear to be. If you look closely, the white follows exactly along the pattern. It looks like "scale coloration", but seems too white...as mentioned though, I should know further after a few sheds. I looked with a magnifying glass and was unable to see any scale damage. However, I'm still not convinced one way of the other.

My camera won't get good close ups. I'll try to take more, but its a $100 Kodak... :(

Still, I agree... That was my initial thought, but doesnt appear to be "damaged". It really didnt "figure in" to me buying this snake...I just dug the head pattern and some of the markings on the body.

Cool star pattern on the head, but it does look like "tub rub" to me. I have some that rub the lip of their tub in the 41 quart sterilites, and the scales appear white with no visible scale damage - just missing the top layer of color.

Its odd because its colored like an injury, is in a location like an injury, but there are no damaged scales...shedding will tell the story.

Good to know...I initially thought "rub" as well (see the initial post), but hadnt seen it with no damage, just color missing. Thanks.

Regardless, the snake was brought home for its cool head markings, belly marks, and patterns...so the white, whether it stays or goes, doesn't factor in...I just dig the snake. :)

I guess I'm just one of those freaks that likes "normals" as much as "morphs"...especially normals that have a couple unique markings. :)

Not a freak at all! I love normals too, as well as the more subtle morphs like womas, enchis, fires, YB.

    I love my normals!

Actually it's the Japanese number "6" ... or if you include the "dot" toward the side it's the Japanese symbol for "dog". (My girlfriend is Japanese... :) )

Any thoughts on the belly markings ? Probably nothing, but I'd definitely like some of the breeders opinions (on the head and flames too).

The second pic shows the white color pretty well. Doesn't look like an injury to me. Pretty unusual though.

No, those are just where he rubbed the pigment off...I had a girl do that MONTHS ago; I put a new hide box in, she went into shed (temps, humidity etc. spot on) and when she shed out she ended up I guess rubbing the pigment off on a few spots...it left white spots exactly like those in the same area. I found a slightly rougher than normal area on the new hide and later sanded it off; looks like your boy did the same thing.

As for my girl, the white areas remained white for a LONG time (months) and are only now beginning to go back to normal. No scale damage, just the lack of color. But his head markings are awesome!

I don't know if the kanji will show up, but it reminded me of fire (火) and it does indeed look like six (六).
