I don't know much about this..
but I know adults are usually kept in homemade enclosures that are like rooms almost. Some guy also said he made half of his basement into large snake enclosures..
I hear that their temperament really varies like any other snake, and when not handled can get aggressive.

Re: just wondering
Well i have 2 babies. All i know from personal experience is that one is a sweet heart and one is a mean Biaaatch. but mind you the mean one is still getting used to handling.
they don't need a huge cage when full grown. mine will have
15'L x 4'w x 4'h
Thanks,
Brandon

Re: just wondering
well, then you shouldn't buy one. some of us can properly take care of these bigger snakes. and provide propper housing

Most of mine are nippy as babys like most snakes but in time they calm down I only have a 2 adults that are mean. I only handle them to clean their cage so there is not much interaction with them. I use 6'x3' visions and 8'x30" neodesha's for my adult's

Re: just wondering
I have two babies and sometimes they are pissy when first taken out. Once out they are cool. I will say they are different than any other snake I have owned. If you don't treat them with the respect they deserve they will react. I really need to get into the habit of handling them regularly.

Re: just wondering
Retics don't need a huge amount of space, there are plenty of commercial caging out there that will hold them. Brian of BHB once said that big snakes will find a corner in a huge enclosure and coil up and not use the enclosure.

no, a corner in a huge room. if you provide a cage half the body legnth, then they will be happy.

Re: just wondering
I am sure Brian has a few more retics than you. I am not saying one size cage is better than the other because there are a lot of factors to consider. If you throw a retic in a small tub and feed it like theres no tomorrow I am sure the results could be bad. I am not sure if snakes get "happy" either. But thats a whole other discussion.
Although, I do feel regular handling is good for exercise and getting the snake accustomed to humans.

You make it sound like they wont be 'happy' if they are not provided with a cage that is not half their body length.

Re: just wondering
well my baby is 28in measured tonight and she(i believe) is in a 10 gallon and she doesn't use the whole tank she curls in the corner and chills there most of the day every once in a while she'll rest her head on her water bowl and stretch out but that's about it. So far mine hasn't struck at anyone even our dogs but she is handled at least 20 mins a day by either me or one of my roommates.
