:O Those are the CUTEST little baby ratties I've seen in a long LONG time! I ADORE the blue ones. If I ever get another rat I'm going to try to find one of those guys. Don't think it'll happen though. I miss Dexi being that small. *pouty face*

I love it when they are that old. They are all excited, lick your fingers, run around, then fall asleep in your hands. :)

This litter is turning out to be pretty special, the 3 blues are extra light compared to what I usually get. Almost like an English blue...

Oh and justin, they are all het for dumbo ;)

Those are very cute little ratlets!

I was at the local Petco (yeah, I know - but I can't help going to pet stores!) a couple of weeks ago, and they'd just gotten a big shipment of all male rats in. Smalls and mediums were plain ol' lab rats, but the larges were all fancies; blues, hoodeds, rexes, dumbos. I was like "There's no way we need another male rat - we've got two already (Big black founder and his siamese son) - well - maybe, if they had a blue rex dumbo..."

Guess what strolled outta the igloo?

    Yeah.

(BTW, the local PetSmart displays the following sign: "Because overpopulation of small animals is a real concern, PetSmart will only sell one sex of each species in our stores." Or, yeah - it might have something to do with making sure you're dependent on them for your . . . whatevers.)

Thanks to all of you! I really love the russian blues, I think it's one of the most prolific colors in my colony. That and siamese and beige! LOL.

A member here is actually getting the rex blue pictured there, and I'll be keeping that hooded girl. (She's such a ham!) :D

We had some really light blues born recently from two different females (both bred by the same male who is dh for both blue and dumbo). Lightest blues we've ever had born here.

I'm hoping they are much healthier than the usual pet store stock blues which just seem to never do that well.

LOL, Chris and I throw around the idea of moving down to Texas every few months or so.

Be nice to not have 6 months of winter... but dangit all, we're having just the most absolutely gorgeous summer here this year, and Texas seems to be kinda crappy for summer months with stupid high heat and hurricanes. Makes me appreciate the green of Michigan. :D

It is actually really nice down here. the summer seems long lived, but it really isn't, durring the fall winter and spring its pretty nice!! And we havent had a major hurricane hit our coasts in over 100 years..LOL. We just have had mild ones.... Friendswood Tx. We are voted one of the best town in the country every year. Our schools are number 1 in the state for smarts!:D And you get to be closer to me, Diana, and laura! And a few others as well.:D

Well... it's definitely on the discussion board. I'll say that much. I just don't know how I'd deal with all that heat, lord knows Chris can't handle Michigan summers that well. ;)

Russian Blues x American Blue has Russian Silvers. Which are a pale Blue.

American Blue x Mink or Ruby Eyed Gene (Beige) or Chocolate has Platinum. A very pale blue colored rat. The Chocolate and Mink colored Platinums are quite a bit darker, but they are still a very pale blue. :D

It almost looks like your newest blue litter is some kind of dilute. To me, it almost looks like they are Russian Silvers. Beautiful little babies. :D

Hehe, you should send some my way. I just have my Russian Hooded girl left. All of my Russian Blues, Platinums, Silvered Russians and Russian Silvers had to go when we move. :(

Well, I'd have to go look in my records, but dad may have been het for RED. Mom was beige rex stripe. (And such a perfect stripe she has too) :D They really are the lightest russian blues I've ever had in a litter, but it's nice to hear others agree.

Hmmm probably explains why mine are so light then. It's hard to photograph them and show how their blue has layers to it with this white/silver underneath. The mothers of the blues in that picture were if memory serves are one of my Minks and one of my many Beige Hoodeds (ruby eyes).

Awwwww! I didn't see them, such beautiful little light blue babies you two have.

It's very possible, they are awful light. I would say they are a dark platinum though. Platinums can often be mistaken for a beige. Those babies look like Mink or (if Chocolates weren't so rare) Chocolate Platinums.

Russian Blue Silvered. Not to be confused with a Russian Silver. His coat is evenly ticked with white hairs.

As I was told, yes. It is the European reference to Platinum. It is still used a lot in both standard references though. It's more descriptive, seeing as there are several different shades of Platinum.
