What would you rather have? Albino or Axanthic?

If given the oppurtunity which would you rather own?

High contrast Albino or a VPI Axanthic?

I cant make my mind up, so I figured id see what everyone else thinks...

Just for sheer wow value from snake people and non-snake people alike, I voted albino. Axanthics brown with age, and to most non snake people look like normals. Albinos always get good reviews!:gj:

Agreed!

I have a mini obsession with Albino animals in general. Albino BP's are gorgeous and I hope some day I can afford one!

I would prefer a nice, clean VPI axanthic. Most of them do tend to brown out, but just like everything else selective breeding plays a big part in that. I've seen some really nice adults that held their 'lack' of color pretty well. Also, most albinos will lose their 'high contrast' with age -- the yellow and white kind of blurs together from what I've seen.

Axanthic's have never done it for me...

I like axanthics for the combos, and albinos for the "stand alone" quality.

I think what axanthics do to other morphs is stellar.

PS: The low contrast albinos are my favs, unless you are talking something amazingly high contrast such as a cinnie albino.

I'd have to say Axanthic.

I have both but if I had to pick one it'd be the Bino...

I do very much love my albino.

And I do very much love my axanthic.

My stunning high contrast albino somewhat faded with age but I still love him -- my axanthic at 600ish grams is still pretty young and stunning -- I do expect him to brown out to some degree -- I'm hoping it's not much he came from a stunning line and a breeder that selectively breeds.

Either way I take solace in the fact that even as adults neither will look as drop dead gorgeous as they did as babies (tis true with most morphs) -- however I will still have really cool snakes that will produce drop dead stunning babies that I will be able to oooo and ahhh over for a while until they find their way to their new homes.

It's a win win with either :gj:

I'm no expert and I think all the ball pythons look good but I have to agree with you on this one. The albino will always have his exceptionnal color. :)

Albino every time for me....

Heck...I'm no expert, and I'll be the first to admit that! If we're talking sheer business aspect, albinos would probably outsell axanthics any day.

I've never really been an axanthic fan as a stand alone morph, but in combos it can do some cool stuff!

Man do I disagree with that. However, I am an Axanthic man from day one. It is just my opinion. I will post a pic in a couple days (I'm waiting on her to shed) of an Axanthic female that will blow your mind. I do have quite a few adult Axanthics that do not resemble normals, and are actually quite good looking.

p.s. I didn't mean to pick on you Jason, but your's was the first thread I read. LOL.

I'm going with axanthic. Albinos are neat but not really my cup of tea.

I personally love axanthics. There are some stellar examples out there of adults that are awesome. (much like how some pastels look great as adults while others don't).

Also for me the combo potential of axanthics is really awesome.

I like the look of VPI Axanthics. We already have a pair of albinos and they are some gorgeous creatures, but when we first started out I had my heart set on a VPI Axanthic. We have a 100% het VPI Axanthic female from VPI and a 100% double het VPI Snow male from RDR. With that said we hope to breed them at some point to make axanthic possible het snows. We also have an extra het albino female that we may breed with the double het male just to add to our chances of making snow!

I adore the silver and black of axanthics, but there's just something about white and yellow on a snake. :D And I personally prefer faded albinos over high contrast.

Albino..... Because they look great all by themselves.... Axanthics are OK, but it's not a morph that makes me say 'WOW'

I voted albino just because they're on my list of want before Axanthic. But trust me, I love Axanthics a whole lot!

Axanthic, I have the same problem with you.. haha. But, since it's going to be my first snake, I will pick either one that is in good health and good price. Still browsing around, hopefully next week I'll have it. :)

Nice problem you have. I voted for albino because I love the way they look on their own and I hope to have an albino g-stripe one day. If you're going to breed in the future, the albino hatchling is about twice the price of the Azanthic right now . . . I expect they will come very close to each othe in price in about a year though.

Both are very cool snakes. Let us know which one you choose . . .

I dont have neither but I have a possible Axanthic male who is darn nice so I am gonna have to say Axanthic. Got him with a normal now again to see if anything comes of that. Nothing has so far.

Axanthic, easy. Albinos are fine for the visual "WOW" factor of people who know snakes, but honestly you can get a yellow snake any day. You can even get a white snake.

But a silver and black beauty who can create REALLY beautiful babies if crossed with a pastel, spider, bumblebee...

And think about how a pewter or silver bullet would look when crossed with an axanthic; it'd up the silver factor and keep it from "yellowing out" (especially silver bullets; gorgeous as babies but the older they get they look like they have fungus, from the pictures I've seen) and remain that beautiful baby silver.

And I sort of am disappointed with a lot of the albino crosses. I mean, sure, a pin albino or spider albino or pied albino looks cool, and a genetic stripe, but really most other color morphs don't mix well with it. Pattern morphs are good for crossing albinos with, but to me they are limited because of what they are. I can't tell a normal albino from a pastel albino, and cinnie albinos look kind of cool but again I just like the plain cinnie better. On the other hand, an axanthic looks good no matter what you cross it with!

I guess it's all preference! I didn't like axanthics until I got to see some in person and hold one while holding a het axanthic at the same time and WOW are they fantastic as babies!

Albinos are what got me interested in BPs and were my first purchases. I'm a big fan of bright bold colors in snakes, so axanthics don't really do it for me.

Hey, don't get me wrong - silver is my favorite color! If Axanthics stayed that beautiful silver and black they would be my top choice BP! But it's like the disappointment of a browned-out pastel...you wanted the snake to keep its colors but it didn't.
Albinos stay albino, and are gorgeous no matter how bright they might be. :)

The first morph I really fell in love with is the Axanthic. However, if I had to choose between an amazing albino and an average axanthic, I'd choose the albino.

But mayyybe that's because the local herp place has two gorgeous albino hatchlings right now... soooo pretty!

I mean axanthics are sweet, but you just can't beat an albino. :gj:

i think some of the axanthic crosses are cool but they fade out when they get older

Hello everyone this is my first post on this forum. I just found it today. Where have I been????? I watched snake bytes and they gave a shout out to this site at the end of the vid. Thanks SnakeBytes TV.


I also think as a stand alone..... the Albino hands down. For crossing into other morphs Axanthic for sure. Just get um both....no more debate. LOL

Both!!! I have an albino female and she's stunning!! I also have a VPI-line axanthic female for making drop-dead gorgeous axanthic killer bees :love:

I have always loved albinos.. I would have to go with that. To me, albinos are so awesome that having one in itself would be cool no matter what the market does. That is what does it for me.. I buy snakes based on what I will be stunned with everytime I open that tub, not necessarily on what I think would earn me money down the road (since most of them will definately pay for themselves in years to come.) Now, axanthics have more, better combo potential than albinos.. so if you have to justify an investment, maybe a pair? Or heck, just get both! (ah, if funds were not limited.. we cound run further..)

Like them both. But I think I would get an Albinos first. The axanthics seem to fade so much when they are adults. I've seen some very nice high contrast adult albinos.

i totally dig the axanthic.
they are just gorgeous.
however, i wouldnt mind having an albino either, but if i get to pick, i want the axanthic.

I've never liked the albinos so I voted for the Axanthics and I have two of them as soon as they can be shipped :)
