Little tip for those using melamine for diy racks...
Ive been looking for a locking clip or something to put on the edge of the shelves to lock the tubs in place.
Well ive come across a solution! I know its not mind boggling, but it works great! In walmarts small electrical wire section they have plastic staples with nails in them.
If you take one side's nail out and then hammer the other side into the egde of the shelf you get a little knob you can turn that acts as a stopper for the tubs and it prevents them from sliding out. It also works great as a kiddy proofing mechanism.
Ill take a quick pic later tonight to show what I did...

Hi,
I used the little corner blocks and some washers to do the same thing. :gj:

Mine do loosen slightly every now and again but a good turn with the screwdriver soon sorts them out. :)

I used those on my first rack, they work wonders. :gj:

I just drill a hole and use 1/4" dowl rod. Works great and then we color code the dowls for different purposes.

I'm always amazed at the inventiveness of members of this forum! Great ideas folks!
We use colored binder clips, clipped onto the tub edges to tell us at a glance something about the snake within. Blue clip means the snake is in shed. Black clip means the snake refused to eat last week. Yellow clip means the snake needs watching (might be something like it tends to have poor sheds or whatever, basically means check the notes in the snake records on that one). Red means the snake tends to bite first, ask questions later. Green is this tub is a breeding in progress.
Really helps as we get more snakes to have a quick visual reference when you scan all the tubs. :)

Turn them clockwise every use and they wont loosen on ya..... ;)

I've used 1/4" dowels, but other than child proofing racks, is any of this neccesary? I've never had a tub move forward on me.

I think it would help ensure that they're all the way back. A couple of times I have carelessly not pushed a tub far enough back and left a very small gap. Luckily I caught it before anything happened, but if you had these and made sure they were "locked" wouldn't have to worry about not pushing all the way.
But, you're right, I've never had one slide forward on its own accord (or the snakes).
