Here they are Justin! Pick the one you want! :)

Also if Connie sees this, in the first pic, do the Siamese usually have splotches of color while they are getting older? Every time I see a Siamese looking like this I keep thinking it has some kind of hooded gene, as I also have a hooded breeder male that could have fathered it. Thanks!

There are actually hooded Siamese, they are called Triamese. I used to have them pop up more often than Siamese even though they are quiet rare.

Most likely, the splotches are just them molting, imo.

Sounds reasonable... but you would see the hooded pattern when they are young as well. Siamese doesn't change the pattern at all. Mine look funny when they go through their first moult, especially on their heads lol. Becky or someone else will prob have a better answer. I've had quite a few hooded siamese in my litters... I can't remember which female throws them off the top of my head.

    Ooo, Crissy quick fingers! Lol

Thanks girls... I rotate my females around so that they can help each other raise their young and I never know who fathered what litter or which babies are from which mom... right now I can't even remember if that first siamese looked like that as a baby or just looked like a normal baby siamese. I'm a bad rat breeder, lol! I have some pics of another male and female that I thought at the time were siamese hoodeds as well...

And here's another pic for Justin of some rex agoutis (I think!)

A couple of Triamese, they are not my rats.

You can clearly see their hooded beige markings throughout their entire lives. Occasionally they fade, but they are pretty obvious if you have a Siamese setting next to a Triamese at any age. :D

    Thanks Connie. :P

I'm going to venture D that those two you posted are hooded agouti siamese. Just because they are faded, but you can see what looks to be a hooded pattern there. Where's Becky when you need her?! :P

Hey Crissy! I'm never sure if it's mink or not, I don't have any that I'm aware of.. I have mink envy... lol

Thanks for the pic, mine look nothing like that!

The other thing is that my hooded male is a beige color? I think? I am horrible at rat colors!

I used to have a bundle of minks with quiet a few different patterns, I'll post some of the pictures one day.

As far as Minks right now, I don't have any pure Minks, just a Cinnamon boy. :P

I want my blazed minks back, unfortunately, when we moved, I had to re-home 30 or so of my rats. I only kept the ones I was really attached to.

Would it make more sense if they were hooded beige siamese?

Actually, Triamese are beige hooded, siamese rats. So, technically, you could have Triamese.

What a bummer! There was a mink at Petsmart a few months back... I thought about it, but it's just not worth the risk for me at this stage in the game...

In that case I think they are siamese that are molting... but again, I am totally out of my league here with all these different rats. They are all super cool and I hate feeding them off!

Well, been a while since I read the genetics page...

I believe... it's a genetic black animal, non agouti with the recessive mink gene. Lighter more purple shades are considered lilac.

    Mink on agouti makes cinnamons.

I totally didn't understand that!! So if I bred a mink to a beige hooded, what would I get?

    Re: Siamese pics for Justin
    Let me try to elaborate.

Solid Colors - This means the entire rat is one color, it is not ticked (accented) by other colors. All of it's hairs are one solid color. In other words the color is solid. (Blacks, Minks, PEW, Beige, Champagne, Russian Blue, American Blue, Dove, Lilac, Platinum, etc).

Ticked Colors - Hairs are comprised of several different colors, either banded or ticked. The hairs can be several colors or several shades of the same color. Ticked colored Rats always have lighter colored bellies such as agouti . (Agouti, Cinnamon, Fawn, Blue Agouti, Pearl, etc)

Silvered (Silvered Colored) - White (silver) hairs are evenly dispersed throughout the coat. Ticked and Solid colors can be Silvered.

Right on, Connie. The Mink locus causes black to be diluted to a gray-brown color. Causing the rat to be "mink" colored.

Breeding a Mink to a Beige your results would vary, depending on what genetics your rat carried.

I always feel really bad when I feed off the agoutis and siamese. I feel like there are a lot people out there that would love to have them.

I need to filter out all the colored rats and stick to the plain white. Is it horrible of me that I have an easier time feeding off albinos?

    Re: Siamese pics for Justin
If you are just working with the Beige and Mink gene (both recessive), you will have 100% Black rats. However and luckily, all rats carry multiple genes, so there is no telling what you might throw! :D

Are agoutis hard to get? Ive got so many agouti hoodeds and HATE the color! I was thinking they are "normal" rats.

Nice rats though, ive got a siamese dumbo albino rex and love him!

I LOOOVE agoutis! I hadn't had any for so long, I was super excited when both of my albino girls threw the first 3 agoutis I ever had. :D

I love the depth of color in agoutis, and not to mention, fawns, cinnamons, ambers and the rainbow of colors that come with the agouti. ;)
