Breeding question
Just wondering how many people use the cool down method when they start there breeding season. If not does anyone just put the male with the female and hope for the best?:snake:

Re: Breeding question
I didn't cool - I just started putting males with females, especially when weather systems were rolling in. All my pairings (all three of them) have resulted in eggs, and two clutches have hatched, the third will hatch at the beginning of August.

Re: Breeding question
Keep an eye on that barometric pressure...soon as you see it start to drop drastically throw some pairs together and you may get a surprise the next morning! :salute:

The males are ready to go year around, but some parts of the year they are not so much as ready. You can create a false breeding season, and that will work.

Re: Breeding question
We did a temp dip (two degrees is all though) for a couple weeks before putting males with females. This is our first season but we have gotten lots and lots of great locks with our pairs.. we have also put males in with females during heavy rain storms.. i LOVE June-July in Florida it rains almost everyday!
Rugger, im sorry to hear you doubt it but in our experience (This year) you can create your own weather changes, and if you have weather like we do there are all kinds of drops in pressure to help. I know for a fact (through our breeder who has done it for 25+years) you can breed year round, sometimes during the year is more ideal then others but it can absolutely be done.

Re: Breeding question
I never knew that about the whole rainstorm thing. Pretty nifty. I'll have to file that away for future reference. Does anyone know if this goes for other species of snake as well?

If the female is receptive, absolutely. Tracy Barker talked about it on Reptile Radio - read your females - if they've been fabulous feeders, then suddenly go off feed - they may be wanting to breed. Put a male with her and see if they'll breed.
I'll be doing that this week with a female that has been refusing for the past two months. I expect that they'll likely lock.
