I am at a total loss here! Please help!
I thought I had this problem cured but my Blood is again pushing with all his might on the front glass door of his tank. There is a small ridge there where the glass fits in and he pushes so hard his face eventually slips off, he does this all night long, and by morning his face is all marked up. Last month he chipped off a tiny piece of his upper lip. Needless to say I am worried.

I've lowered his temps (it's been a month now) down to 83 and I thought that did the trick but that seems to have been only a tempory fix.

I put his kitty litter hide back in, he still pushes on the glass.

His temps are consistent, they don't fluxuate. I use a radiant heat panel. I use a temp gun and they are checked multiple times daily.

His diet is steady and eats no problem.

He is about 3 1/2 feet in length and his tank is a 2x3 from reptile basic.

The only thing I can think of to do is maybe tape off the front glass door to perhaps make him feel more secure. Other than that though I have no clue what else to do.

Any suggestions you all might have would appreciated big time! :)

Earl, just a thought - sometimes when you've tried everything else, a bigger enclosure may be necessary for the extreme face rubbers.

Are you planning to move him to a larger cage as an adult? If so, it may be time to go ahead & do so.

The only options I can think of are not very enjoyable.
A larger enclosure with possibly no glass.. which is bad if you like visual cages like me.
Hm.. If he only does this at night, try putting a piece of soft-taped cardboard over the glass area so he can't see out of it. Making it seem less like an exit to attempt to get out of. (when I say soft-taped I mean weak tape so you can remove the cardboard and reuse it with the same tape)

    Hes eating alright correct?

Yes I was planning to. I'll just go ahead and do that. Should I snag a 2x4 from reptile basic? Or is there another place you'd recommend?

Here is his ugly mug as of 10 minutes ago. Poor fella. :(

Oh yeah, he's a hearty eater. I don't even have to do the zombie dance with the f/t rats. I just drop them in front of him and he has at them no problem.

He was a handsome dude before this mischief ya know. All the girls were waiting in line for him to grow up so they could swoon, but now he is the Elephant Blood, The Thing From the Dark Beyond, the snake with no face, the Sumatran Sasquatch.

You think maybe a bigger water dish to go with a bigger tank?

Just a shot in the dark, but have you kept him on cypress or any other substrate, and did he have that behavior then?

No he was on bed-a-beast briefly when he was a baby, ever since then he's been on newspaper and about 8 months ago I switched to kraft paper.

All this started when I first took his hide away when he out grew his caves back in February. He goes through phases with this pushing on the glass.

Aww he's not ugly. He's just got some issues down the line..
    :]

All I can think of is to make it seem as if it's not an exit, maybe take some kraft paper and tape it over the glass at night. That's all I can really think of considering he doesn't push on the back end of his enclosure to get out.. right?

I just need to figure out if he needs a 2x4 or a 2x6. By Rbi do you mean reptile basics?

How much you feeding? How often?

Kara had a good idea with a bigger cage.

Whats the cool side at? I had a problem with my female being psycho. Kara said i should lower the temps. It worked for her. But seeing as she never really uses the warm side, i made sure to lower the cool side a degree at least. And shes calmed down a tad. I dont know which one did it. But you may try lowering the cool side down to 79.

Your hide is on the cool side right?

He gets a large rat once every ten days.

Cool side temp is 80 and the hide is on the cool side. I could bump that down another degree no problem.

Kara's idea bout the larger enclosure is a good one.
In a mean time at least put a towel or something over the glass.

Re: I am at a total loss here! Please help!
While I think this is probably due to cage size, also keep in mind that he may be wanting to breed. Males will sometimes pace their cages for hours trying to get out & find the ladies!

I prefer the AP T-10 cages (4' x 2' x 15" high), but any 4' x 2' (or even larger) would be fine. That "lip" that runs all the way around the opening for the door & doubles as a litter dam on the AP cages is rounded instead of a straight edge, and that cuts down on damage a bit in the event you get a pusher.

I wouldn't bump the cool side down any lower. 80-82 is a nice ambient temp for blood pythons & you don't really want to keep them too much cooler than that. In a cage that size though, for a snake his size, he may be having a hard time finding a cool spot that he likes. Try killing the basking spot completely in the mean time, and focus on keeping the entire cage an ambient of 80-82 degrees or so.

Also, you may want to try to find the biggest tote you can - like one of those Christmas tree storage boxes (or larger), or a giant underbed box, something with larger dimensions that what he's in now, at least length-wise. That could serve as a temporary enclosure until his new cage arrives, and may cut down on the pushing in the mean time.

    Just my $.02.

I figured as much but I have to be sure, with all the acronyms going around this forum it's hard to keep up sometimes. I was in the 8 ball chat the other night and everyone was saying what snakes they have...brb and ksb and sbp. All I could think of was Who , whah?, where and when ya say? :8:

Besides knowing my luck I'll order an "rbi cage" and end up with a maching throwing 99mph fastballs at my Blood Python! :weirdface

Yeah i had some extra ventilation added. I also had some extra probe slots routered into em. As well as some extra routering for additional flexwatt in the bottom.

    Theyre gonna be loaded. Haha

But yeah theyre at about 4+ weeks right now it seems. Kinda sucks, but worth it.

Earl, don't give up yet. Try calling & e-mailing again & let them know that you've been trying to get in touch with them. They are EXTREMELY slammed right now & are also down a couple of bodies, so it's making the whole process a little bit slow @ the moment.

I get really leary about internet purchases. Currently I can't get Sears to send me the right coffee table, Vans keeps sending me the wrong pair of shoes, Vigor can't get the specs right for my new laptop, and the new computer desk and chair I ordered from computerdesks.com can never make it to shipping because some how my order disappears.

No joke, I am in purchasing hell with every single company I try to buy stuff from and AP frosted my butt with the no returns on my questions.

Get a load of this....AP is trying to refund my credit but paypal won't allow it. Isn't that awesome? Despite the fact that the buyer and the merchant are in complete agreement to cancel the order paypal wants to hose everything up.

I was told 3 weeks. I ordered em on june 10th. So 4 weeks goes by and i call em. They said "oh we had a flood, we didnt call and tell you about that?" I was like hell no you didnt tell me that!

So they say theyre going out Thursday or Friday last week. They dont go out. I call em up, then theyre going out Monday or Tuesday this week. They dont go out. So i call em up again today and they say theyre having some problems there. And they shoot me 5 tracking numbers. Theyre not working yet.
And say they may go out today or tomorrow. So its not too terrible, but kinda nerve wracking.
