    Positive thoughts needed!
Positive thoughts, prayers, good vibes, or whatever you believe in, are needed, please!

A friend of mine just had her baby. A boy named Xerxes. Very very early. He was only 1 lb 11.5oz when he was born!

They had to do a c-section and take him early because she was having problems with high blood pressure and pre-eclampsia. The good news is that by hospitalizing her they were able to stabilize her enough to wait a week before they had to take the baby. So I think they gave her some steroids (which I think help the lungs?) and maybe other stuff to help the baby mature as much as possible. And of course an extra week can make a huge difference in cases like this.

Anyway, the doctors are pretty positive about it, but we are all still very concerned for the little guy! So any positive vibes that could be sent his way would be great!

My best wishes and prayers, Casey, for your friend's baby. It's very good that she had that week in the hospital because yes they would have given her the drugs needed to help lung maturity and give that baby a better chance. Tiny preemies have such better odds now than they did even 10 years ago. Many blessings that he's a little fighter and with good medical support will do just fine.

I'll do my share in sending up prayers! Please, let us know how they are doing!

My son's half-brother (brother from another mother) was born at just over 2 pounds and I mean just over. He is now 10 years old and a thriving young man! I'm sure your friends baby will do just as well.

The child will be in our thoughts. I know how stressful it was when Ashley was having our daughter and everything was going great, I couldn't even imagine if something had went wrong.

    Best wishes.

Visualizing a healthy little fattie, with big bellowing lungs, waving his clenched fists from all the extra energy he has. :)

PS: Also seeing some parents with enough support around them to get some good night's sleep!

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone! I will pass them on to the mom & dad.

I don't have much to update, because I haven't been getting very detailed reports. I am sure they have plenty of other things to do than to call up everyone they know with all the details, so I'm not complaining.

I know the mother is doing better and has been released from the hospital, and the doctors continue to be positive about how well the baby is doing.

I'll update again when I know more.

I had a good update that I didn't get around to posting before bad news showed up. :( I'll go in order...

Baby Xerxes reached an important milestone a couple of days ago. There is a hole in or near the heart (sorry for being so non-technical) which is supposed to be there and good while a baby is in the womb, but is supposed to close at birth. Xerxes's closed when he was 9 days old. I believe it is normal for it to take a while in premies.

Today at 4am his parents got a phone call that his blood oxygen saturation had dropped. It was at 85% then and has been down as low as 70% today. For those that have no frame of reference, that's is extremely low.

Please send all your prayers, etc.

I'm out the door to lend whatever support we can to his parents.
